This artistic textile display spoke joy to me especially in this cooler weather of late! Here at the Barbican Centre overlooking the lake is the work of artist Ibrahim Mahama. Draped over the Barbican Centre are over 2000 sq. colossal panels sewn by the hands of craftspeople from Tamele. They too have hand embroidered more than 130 batakaris. They are African Fugu in local Ghanaian language, also known as Smocks. This colossal piece is wonderfully titled Purple Hibiscus. Dance like no one is watching 💃 Did you know…There is a massive dancing woman in Las Vegas? We stumbled across her while walking back to our shuttle stop after catching a Golden Nights game at the T-Mobile Arena and I had to learn more about this incredible piece of art. The statue, titled Bliss Dance, was originally created by Marco Cochrane for Burning Man 2010. After the festival, the sculpture, which stands 40 feet tall, weighs 7000 pounds and is lit with 1000 LED lights, was installed on Treasure Island. The salty air of Treasure Island was not kind to the statue and by 2013 it was in dire need of repair. Made of steel rods and balls and covered in metal mesh, it was initially intended to be a temporary installation so it was never painted and had begun to rust badly. In 2016, MGM bought Bliss Dance, refurbished it and moved it to its current location at The Park. According to the MGM website, Bliss Dance “celebrates the strength of a woman who is both safe and present” and its structure and scale of was inspired by Marco Cochrane’s first experience at Burning Man. Meet My Team [Part.5] 서상교 Seo Sanggyo @439___ss 웹방명록 개발 | Web Development _ 전시의 방명록 겸 전시감상을 나눌 수 있는 웹페이지를 개발해 주신 서상교님입니다. 웹디자인/개발에 무지한 저의 우왕좌왕을 이해해주셔서 매우 감사하였습니다. ㅎㅎ ㅋㅋㅋ _ 전시를 기획하면서 무조건 방명록은 디지털로 하겠다고 정했다. 왜냐하면 첫째로 전시지킴이를 둘 수 없을거라고 생각했고, 두번째로 그렇다면 [종이방명록+펜]을 관리/정리 할 수 없게 될 것이고 그렇다면 분명히 종이 엉망진창에 펜 실종이 분명할텐데 생각만 해도 아찔했다. (어린이박물관에서 함께했던 여러분들은 잘 아시겠죠!ㅋㅋ ㅠㅠ!!!) - 이 박물관 근무 때의 경험으로 전시 에필로그에 때때로 들어가는 디지털 메세지보드를 떠올렸다. 처음에는 디지털 방명록 기계를 대여해주는 곳도 찾아보고(매우 비쌈), 현장에서 키보드나 패드를 배치해서 입력하게 할까 고민하다가(대여기간 길어 비쌈), 다들 폰을 들고 다닐 테니 각자의 폰으로 손쉽게 메세지 남기는 웹사이트 페이지에 접속하는 것으로 결정했다. - 5월에 이지원 작가님을 통해서 상교님을 소개받고(아트&택 감사합니다....!) 처음 회의를 하고나서 진행을 별로 하지 못 했다. ㅠㅠ 작년 7월부터 9월까지 특별전을 연달아서 하게 되어서 시간이 실종되어서 더욱 더 막판에 웹방명록을 완성하게 되었다. (다시 한 번 매우 감사드리는... 넙죽) _ 아무튼 결과적으로 나의 기획은 매우 성공적...! Jenkin van Zyl’s « Palace of Wasted Footsteps » solo exhibition for Gallery Weekend Berlin, revisits the intense world-building of « Surrender, » his project that draws upon his research into 1930s American dance marathons and the ephemeral world of (Japanese) love hotels, hourly hotels for rendezvous into the night. At the intersection of history and fantasy, van Zyl’s sculptures—five competing doppelgängers for intimate dance duos—explore the brutal beauty of endurance and the thin line between competition and survival. They are compelled by a mysterious energy drink, called limitless growth, pushing them ever to the brink of bodily collapse, despair and grace dialectically locked into a kind of « rat race » of self-imposed sel-obsessed success or community, endurance versus surrender, they can not go on, they must go on. Her installation 'Visionary Reality Portal,' located in the Peninsula Hong Kong hotel, is a multisensory digital meditation chamber that incorporates cultural references drawn from the artists' multicultural identity to create a space that encourages viewers to meditate and reflect. The experience includes colorful, dancing flowers and a dream soundscape fit for a transquil atmostphere. Woolfalk hopes that visitors will engage with the installation by sitting down, looking, listening, and feeling, experiencing a sense of being "on top of the universe." Mehr zum Projekt hier auf IG unter @pflan_zen_klang (gerne folgen, ja? ❤️) und auf der Website www.stroeme.info! 🌿 STRŒME Silke Rokitta & Markus Hutter KUBUS EG 09.05.2024 bis 19.05.2024 In den Zellen lebender Pflanzen fließen elektrische Ströme: mittels eines Biofeedbacksensors werden diese in der Installation STRŒME in Ton- und Lichtsignale umgewandelt. Nicht der Mensch spricht mit der Pflanze, sondern die Pflanze mit dem Menschen. Der Fokus der Wahrnehmung verschiebt sich, weg von der Pflanze als Material, hin zur Pflanze als kommunikativem Lebewesen, das Respekt und Aufmerksamkeit verdient. Eine Rundtour an unterschiedlichste Orte in der Stadt und Region wird Potenziale aufdecken und Möglichkeiten zu Veränderungen im Stadtraum aufzeigen. An mindestens 10 Stationen in verschiedenen Stadtteilen wird STRŒME im Sommerhalbjahr 2024 dazu einladen, in den Abendstunden die Stoffwechselvorgänge einer ausgewählten Pflanze zu erfahren. Den Auftakt des Projektes bildet die Ausstellung im KUBUS: Die Galerie wird zum Zimmerpflanzendschungel, jeden Tag klingt ein anderes Gewächs, und jede Nacht signalisieren Lichtrhythmen seine Träume. Das Projekt STRŒME wird durch die Projektförderung und den Innovationsfonds Kunst & Kultur des Kulturbüros der Landeshauptstadt Hannover gefördert.
