Bobblehead Rhino! He is 4 1/2 feet long, his head and tail both bobble.. I carved his head from a solid block of wood added glass wyes and the one horn is bone! I took a chance and painted him a bright pink color for a show called Candy animals. Art is never done until at least your studio. I can keep reworking some of these wood pieces. There are so many iterations to explore! Soon as I get space, I am going to strip back to the lighter gray color and add on some graffiti or tattoos... all over his body to highlight the plight of our wildlife and species. Raindrops Are Falling on My Head 2022 Immersive installation with acrylic, plastic hose, plastic tarp, reflective sheets, LED light, and water. In Raindrops Are Falling On My Head, water is dripped from a height onto an acrylic box, simulating the sound and atmosphere of rain. An LED light is shone at an angle, reflecting the ripples of the water onto the surrounding walls. This work invites the audience to sit in a space of contemplation and let their thoughts run freely - a space that reflects the dilemma of choosing self or others. It explores the idea of how something as simple as rain can create a space of calmness, contemplation, or desperation. Will you choose calm or chaos? How to interact with the work: 1. 🕵️♀️Hi! I wanted to share some reflections on the journey of my recent body of work :) Each piece talks about time, but they express different moments in my personal life interwoven with my art research. "Plenty of Time" (2023) is the result of a creative journey that began with the piece "Stop Time" (2020). Disassembling clocks and encasing them in resin cubes represented a desperate attempt to freeze time during a period of profound stress and anxiety. This marked the beginning of a deeper reflection on how our contemporary societies operate at accelerated rhythms, fueled by the development of technologies that automate processes and that have created a culture focused on immediate results. This exploration led me to the creation of "Tectonic Lingering: A MicroPolitics of Time" (2021), where I question that the way we live time affects the ways we live in relation with others. Specifically, this work examines time in the context of tremors and earthquakes, and features a question on connecting with our environments. It also explores how technology could be use to create a moment of lingering. Ultimately, the creation of "Plenty of Time" came as a healing and almost therapeutic process, shifting from 'a fear of time' to an embrace of its passage. Layers of You 2022 Interactive digital work made with p5js Each of us are unique in every way - from which day we were born, to our circumstances, to the speed at which we learn and grow. Going back to the day where everything started, are we aware of the many layers that are present within ourselves? Do we notice the things we choose to believe in and follow, and why? This piece explores the constraints that are the circumstances we were born in, the decisions we chose to make within those constraints, and the many layers there to each and every one of us as people. This piece is an open-ended piece to allow viewers to contemplate on their lives so far, their influences, how much they’re growing and how much more they will grow. Viewers will interprete each element based off their own experiences, giving them room for self-reflection. Raft in hell, 050824 Ink pens, graphite on stationery 11 x 8.5 inches Pat Hall, the teenage older sister of a childhood buddy, grew up to be an artist. She probably never knew how mesmerized I was the day she decided to make an oil painting while sitting on her family’s living room floor. The Hall sisters were 1960s hippie chicks and “older women” of interest to young boys. One day I happened by when Pat started squeezing tubes of red oil paint onto a palette. Before any of the pigment was brushed onto a small canvas, the aroma and color drew me down to the carpet to watch. I’d never before been enthralled by painting. My dad had used me briefly for a portrait after taking up the brush as a hobby following my mother’s suicide. But now I was an observer, maybe 7 or 8 years old. It still amazes me how vividly this tiny incident lodged in my memory.
