It’s finished!! 😀 My second biomorphic object (at least, second bíg one) is ready to float around. I’ve worked hard the past days to get there, feeling excited and apprehensive at the same time. Some unexpected hurdles had to be overcome but all and all this is very close to how I envisioned it. What is it actually? It is whatever you see in it. For me it’s an imaginary underwater life form, something in between a sea anemone and a squid 😉 It could be part of the ocean’s fantastic, boundless biodiversity. Or it’s a vase that thinks it’s a flower 😉🌸 It’s also an experiment in making a hollow object and I’m relieved I managed to pull it off 😅 although with some adaptations to the original plan… The materials are all organically dyed or printed: cochineal dyed linen, eco printed silk and cochineal and madder dyed threads. At the moment it’s floating in my living room together with the first biomorphic object, see third image.

This vibrant field of scarlet poppies headed off to its new owner last weekend as a very beautiful heartfelt gift from one sister to another on a special birthday. It was a long time in the making and was created to be a surprise companion piece for a picture I made a couple of years ago and which was bought by the birthday girl herself. I love the interaction between these ladies and their very close bond and their shared love of textiles. It’s always a great honour to make a piece of art with someone in mind but you always hope above anything else that it will not disappoint as you pour your heart and soul into every stitch.
