The pockets here are not practical ones, as you can see by scrolling through, falling through the bottom are buttons I spray painted with gold and silver and attached with crochet chains of red yarn. Calling all Stitch Club members! A brand new workshop called Lace wings with Bridget Steel-Jessop has just been posted in the Stitch Club private members area. Bridget Steel-Jessop is a textile artist inspired by cartography, the human form, and the bird’s eye view of the impact of humanity on the landscape. In this workshop, you’ll learn how to turn an insect drawing into a piece of needle lace. First, Bridget will guide you through the basics and you’ll create a small sample to practise the technique. Then you’ll translate your own simple insect design into a unique piece of needle lace. You’ll also discover some ideas for incorporating needle lace into your other textile art projects. Its exciting seeing an idea start to take form! This is the beginning of a 12"×12" work is for the annual Saqa(Studio Art Quilt Ass'n) fundraising benefit auction. So far most materials I've used are re used waste- op shop base fabric, op shop beanie, dyed hand wipes & used colour catchers. #fabricfeelingsfriday !!! Today I have this whimsical Flora & Fun by Subashini Narayanan for Robert Kaufman with a beautiful spattering of watercolor foliage and big birds! I love ostriches and since I'm in the middle of an ostrich project this fabric was calling to me today. I love the variety of poses and personalities that this fabric encapsulates. And the background being such a soft and subtle lavender/berry color is so soft and comforting. Ostriches are kind of an implausible concept. Flightless big boys with googly eyes and long leggies. I've always like ostriches: from their distinctive feathers to their differences. They are not like Other Birds ™️. I think that takes a lot of bravery and vulnerability to walk around with differences on display. 3 yrs of uni completed today - Final exhibition, then off to @newdesigners Collection Title: Petals in Bloom “Petals in Bloom is a forest inspired textile collection for soft furnishings and upholstery. The collection originates from bluebell forests I grew up around, capturing the essence the first day of spring creates, telling a story of nature coming together in its most beautiful form. The title ‘Petals in Bloom” is a reference to the sea of bluebells which bloom for a short period of time as well as the additional wildlife and florals that appear alongside them. Weaving progress on this colour study of natural dyes I made from goodies grown and harvested at the BHU organic farm 🌿 I’m using the same colours for both warp (vertical) and weft (horizontal), fading the weft through gradually to show the subtle differences between each colour. Yarn dyed with weld, marigold flowers, fresh indigo leaves and walnut. Bonus shot of some windswept tōtara trees from the Port Levy saddle along Te Ara Pātaka (Summit Walkway) on Te Pataka o Rakaihautū (Banks Peninsula)
