Day 10 C2C Richmond to past Danby Wiske. 18 miles (includes a couple of detours and a wander round Richmond!) Total miles 143.6 miles Richmond was lovely, great to see the castle and the streets - the architecture reminded me of Edinburgh a little. We followed the river to Colburn, then onto Catterick Bridge (under the A1M) which is a garrison town and also famed for its race course which we past. We then went onto Bolton on Swale were we enjoyed a brew and some lunch out of the sun in St Mary’s Church. “My stay at Well Cottage was exceptional. If you want to immerse yourself in the English culture and countryside there is no better place to do it then with Laura and Nathan as your guides. I could list many things that I enjoyed but especially I enjoyed the Sunday we went to church in their village, had a roast lamb dinner with mint sauce and vegetables from their garden, sat in their snug, with a fire, with the visiting West Highland terrier, Isla, at my feet. That memory will stay with me always. Another is my visit to Stourhead House and Garden, a beautiful landscape garden which is a favorite. Nathan arranged for us to have a guided tour of the garden in a golf cart which was perfect! And later he set up a table and chairs near the garden for us to have a picnic lunch. How glorious it was to sit in this beautiful landscape to eat one of Laura’s delicious gourmet picnics. 🧺 🍾🥂 They are the perfect hosts, pampering is Laura’s forte and Nathan’s timing was perfect while shopping In Shaftesbury when he appeared to help carry packages back to the car. Annual pilgrimage to @the_hampshire_bowman and it was a special one too. Unfortunately this gorgeous country pub is now up for sale but I hope the new owner will keep it the way we know and love. Yesterday we celebrated my dad's 71th birthday and I couldn't think of a better place for it.
