Ahoy Virtual Shipmates! If you caught yesterday's FB post, you know it was the 3rd anniversary of the day I was diagnosed with cancer. How did I spend it? SAILING OF COURSE! But wait...there's more to this story... The skipper was Captain Reyes. If you've seen my featured posts on FB, I took a "screw you cancer" cruise in October '22 and went sailing for the very first time. The skipper? Captain Reyes! I told the crew back then of my story, and Captain Reyes was kind enough to break out the rigging manual to show me. Now he didn't speak English, and I didn't speak Spanish, so we pretty much just sat at looked at pictures...but I was truly touched by he and the crew's kindness. Two weeks later I was bringing New Beginnings home. I told the current crew the story and gave out Sailing Psych cards. One of the '22 crew was there and we video called another. In a way, it felt like coming home. By the way...this time I was on a Leopard catamaran. My goodness those things are huge!!! Fair winds, following seas, and FIND YOUR SAILBOAT! We have officially sailed 650 nautical miles in 4 days from Abacos, Bahamas to Beaufort, North Carolina! We caught 4 barracuda, 3 Mahi Mahi and one Bonita. We had dolphins swim with us and the first 3 days a great sail. The last day was a bit sporty. Unfortunately, we lost one of our engines as we were in the anchorage. Now we only have to navigate with one engine, it’ll be a bit tricky.
