È risaputo che Crotone, o meglio, l'antica Kroton, era una delle più importanti colonie magno - greche (fondata nell'VIII secolo a.C.) Un luogo non male per l'allenamento del giovane Hercules. Inoltre, secondo il mito, fu proprio Ercole a dare il nome alla città di Crotone. In un combattimento, per errore, ferì e uccise il suo amico Kroton, e decise così di dedicargli la fondazione di una città. Ma torniamo a Capo Colonna. L'antico nome era in realtà "Capo Lacinio". Il sito acquisì un'aura sacra con l'erezione di un tempio dorico dedicato alla regina degli dèi: Hera. Purtroppo, del tempio, è rimasta solo un'unica colonna. A poco a poco, indicativamente tra il XV e il XIX secolo, il concetto di tutela del patrimonio culturale era ben lungi dall'essere contemplato, per cui, i marmi furono "reimpiegati" dai cittadini per la costruzione della città di Crotone. Jane rimane colpita dalla solitudine e dalla malinconia della colonna superstite. La lontananza dalla città, i viali di uliveti, i resti dell'antico insediamento urbano, la colonna solitaria e malinconica: ognuno di questi aspetti, nel loro insieme, permettono di immedesimarsi nell'atmosfera della Magna Grecia.
