Formentera in the spring (not too hot) is fantastic for hiking in beautiful nature with lotโs to explore. Today we planned a long walk along the south coast. Walking on beaches, rocks and boardwalks. At our first stop we had a nice local fish (Gallo de San Pedro) for lunch at a restaurant with an amazing view. The south coast is a rugged coast with beautiful breaking waves. After about 6 km along the coast we found a nice stop for refreshments called the blue bar. Aeolian islands, Italy Vulcano island, last eruption at 150 years ago but still see gas escaping from the crater. Next to Vulcano, Lipari island has biggest town in Aeolian islands. After sailing northeast for 4 hours, the famous Stromboli with active volcano. Stromboli gave us the best natureโs fireworks at night. Have you ever seen a cat-flap on a Narrowboat? ๐ Bless my colleague for fitting it for me - and even making space to move the vent (he wasnโt keen to leave me one down!). Just need to tidy up the paint work and thatโs one job off the ever growing list! (Donโt worry, the stove is getting serviced tomorrow and will be looking fab again in no time!!) Granted, Iโve been super lazy since stopping for winter but I seriously need to get a wiggle on now!! - Aiming to ATLEAST get a new stern door, finish the fireplace off and tile the kitchen!! Might even try starting on the bathroom and get a cheeky cratch and stern cover added if funds allow for it. Seems like the renovation work will take a few more years in all - the bedroom is going to be a biggy for sure and then itโs all upgrades such as solar, new windows and roof boxes alongside some more โtarting upโ. After 7 weeks in this stunning group of islands, we are saying goodbye today and heading to the Tuamotus! To say we have been Blown Away by every aspect of our time here is an understatement! Itโs truly been amazing and we will miss the volcanic mountains, friendly locals, and sweet smell of tiara. But, itโs time to move on to the quintessential computer screen saver- white sandy beaches with tall palm trees and 10 shades of blue. Tough choice, right? Growing up in a small fishing village, I always preferred sitting on the rocks by the ocean so I could listen to it louder. It was my happy place for 21 years. ๐ I never dreamt of getting in a boat, fearing the vast emptiness and losing sight of land. Instead, I loved to immerse myself in the water, floating on my back, and gaze up at the sky with my ears submerged in the gentle hush of the sea below. ๐ปโโ๏ธ But in 2015, driven by an unexpected desire to see the Arcticโs raw beauty, I joined the crew of @tallshipcompany as a stewardess for half a season and sailed from Netherlands to Svalbard. This journey ignited a much deeper longing to live on the water, and since then, my solo travels shifted to a slower pace, flowing more naturally as my heart desires instead of ticking countries off a map hanging on the wall. ๐ฆIt took me another five years to merge my travel dreams with my skills and passions. I envisioned a life where I could share my love for food, offer an unique place to stay, connect with like-minded travellers and capture the world's beauty through my lensโall from one vessel. The Bobtail squid's luminescent mimics the moonlight at night. Itโs pretty cool, huh? Their symbiotic relationship with luminescent bacteria and their special light organs allow the bobtail squid to mimic the moonlight at night and eliminate their shadows. Letting them hide from predators with their invisibility cloak. They are not born with these microbes, but form the relationship by attracting a specific bacterial microorganism (Vibrio fischeri) to live within their light organs situated within their mantle. This is a true symbiotic relationship as the squid provides sustenance for the bacteria (via sugars) and the bacteria provide the squid with the ability to camouflage itself.
