📍SYDNEY ♥️🇦🇺 We spent two days in Sydney and while it was quick, it was such a great visit. We had perfect weather! We walked to the Queen Victoria Building, through Hyde Park and visited the Hyde Park Barracks, strolled through the Botanical Garden, took the stairs up the Harbour Bridge Pylon, and visited Taronga Zoo on the ferry. Considering we were soooo jetlagged, and little Lou was up at 2:30 am on the first day, I'm pretty proud of all we accomplished. My first flight ever (at 16) was to be an exchange student in Australia. Seeing the Opera House & Harbour Bridge through the clouds upon descent - it still makes me teary to think about. So, so happy we were able to experience this again as a family, now that our (big) kids are older and will remember. . #sydneywithkids #travelingfamily
The year was 2018. We’d been living and traveling in an RV for more than four years—full-time. It was amazing: moving to a new location every other Saturday and supporting our travel lifestyle via our boutique online marketing company. We worked Monday through Friday, often more than 40 hours a week, exploring on the weekend. I worked from our RV’s dinette, while Eric worked lying down on the sofa to ease his back pain as a disabled veteran. Now our son was one year old, which incidentally made work more difficult without childcare or a support community. I got up at 4:30 a.m. to get a head start on the work day. Up until that time, we did the RV park thing. We had hook-ups that supplied electricity and fresh water, plus a place to dump our sewage and used water. But we saw some of our RV friends doing it differently—like camping in grassy fields outside national parks, where bighorn sheep roamed outside the window. We knew they worked, too. Were we doing it wrong? Why were we restricting ourselves to these concrete jungles when there was such a wide, beautiful world out there? So we bought a 100-watt suitcase solar panel and decided to stretch far out of our comfort zone. We rolled up to Sand Flats Recreation Area overlooking Moab, where very few sites could accommodate our 40-foot behemoth RV. We deployed our 100-watt panel and were shocked when we made it 16 days with NO HOOKUPS. We had never done anything like that before. We didn’t know we could. Only a few weeks later in Jackson Hole, a new word passed between Eric and me. I had never said it outloud before. The word was “overlanding,” and it was the advent of something new for our family. Right now, we are back at Sand Flats in Moab. Thinking about how much we have grown in six years. Thinking that anyone can do it…you.
DAY 132 🇺🇸 Today, we left Easter Island. Our flight was scheduled for 14:45, so we spent the morning at the hotel. After checking out, we headed to the airport, which was a 5-minute drive from the hotel, as the island itself isn’t very large. We realized that this airport is one of the coolests we’ve ever been to, with its outdoor waiting area and the Moai statue. The flight itself was a good four hours, but it was very turbulent for almost the entire journey, so we flew at the maximum possible altitude of 43,000 feet. Luckily, we arrived safe and sound by 9 pm, so we headed to the hotel and settled in for the night. //🇭🇺 Ma elhagytuk a Húsvét Szigetet. Mivel a járatunk csak 14:45-kor indult, így a délelőttöt a szállodában töltöttük. Miután kijelentkeztünk, a reptérre indultunk, ami nagyjából 5 percnyi autóútra volt, persze az egész sziget sem nagy egyáltalán. Rájöttünk, hogy ez az egyik legkirályabb, ahol valaha jártunk, a kerti várójával és különösen a Moai szoborral. A repülőút maga 4 óra volt, de majdnem egész úton elég nagy turbulencia volt, így a lehetséges maximális utazómagasságon, nagyjából 13000 méteren (43000 láb) repültünk. Szerencsére épségben ide értünk este 9 körül, így már csak arra volt erőnk, hogy letegyük magunkat a szállodai szobában.

Day 3 in Iceland 🇮🇸 . We left the western part of the country and drove 2 hrs to do the famous Golden Circle. Thingvellir National Park was loaded with history and breathtaking sights. This is where you can snorkel between tectonic plates, which is something Chet & I will do on our next visit😊 Gullfoss falls were mighty and incredibly stunning, even from a distance. The turquoise waters of Bruarhold reminded me of an alpine lake, deep in the Beartooth Mountains. The weatherforcast was perfect, so we packed our bags, checked our bikes and hit the road. This week we will cycle a part of the southern part of the Gotalndsleden. A beautiful cycle path along the coast, through the forests and other beautiful landscapes. We left on Monday and made 88 km so far. Our weekend getaway started in Montreal. Wael went to Concordia University here (many, many years ago). I use to do this drive monthly as we maintained a LONG distance relationship the entire 4 years, however this time it felt super long. Felling those many, many years now. But Montreal will always hold a special place in my heart and wish it was a bit closer as we don’t see our friends enough. There were a lot of tears, not just from Ivy but from me too. And sometimes that’s how it goes. Sometimes expectations won’t be met, sometimes things don’t go how you want. We tried to have a super fun day yesterday, but it didn’t work out that way. There were big feelings that caused the day to not pan out the way I desired. The start of today was rough as well. But then I decided to just let go of my expectations and that’s when everything changed. Today ended at the park, playing in the sand barefoot, soaking up the sun with giggles and smiles. It was beautiful. Not what I planned at all, but somehow even better 🥹 I love this little girl so so much 🥹 Thank you God for allowing me the honor of being her mama and blessing me with her as my daughter 🤍 Here’s to letting go of expectations 😘
Kumbhalgarh Fort Rajasthan | 2nd Largest Wall in the World We had a guided tour to learn about the history of Kumbhalgarh Fort. Rana Kumbha constructed Kumbhalgarh Fort in the fifteenth century. This fort's border wall and rich history make it significant. Its boundary wall is 36 km long, making it the second longest wall in the world after the Great Wall of China. The fort hosts a nightly light and sound performance, but we were unable to watch it because the setup was being renovated. DAY 131 🇺🇸 Today started with some light rain, but it cleared up soon, and we enjoyed nice weather. We began our day at Ana Te Pahu, a cave that is actually an empty lava tunnel. These tunnels were once used by the native Rapa Nui people as shelters, hideouts, and living quarters. They were also utilized for agriculture, as the land inside the cave is very fertile. Exploring this cave was quite the adventure, involving climbing and walking through its expanse. Next, we visited Ahu Akivi, an ahu located inland. Its seven moais face toward the ocean, which is unique for moais. This ahu is also astronomically aligned, adding to its distinctiveness. Afterward, we stopped by Puna Pau, a smaller crater known as the quarry for the scoria used to make the topknots for the moais. Our final destination was Tahai, which features three restored platforms. Later in the afternoon, we took a leisurely stroll to the island’s only city, Hanga Roa, and enjoyed a delightful coffee there. //🇭🇺 A mai nap is esősen indult, de hamar kiderült az ég, így élvezhettük a jó időt. A barlang felfedezése jó kis kalandnak bizonyult. Innen a Ahu Akivihez mentünk, amely a sziget belsejében található. Hét moai található itt, amelyek az óceán felé néznek, amely egyedülálló, csakúgy mint a precíz csillagászati tájolás, amely szintén csak ezt azt ahut jellemzi. A következő állomás a Puna Pau volt, amely egy kisebb kráter, ahol a salakot bányászták a moaik haját szimbolizáló pukaokhoz. Innen a Tahaihoz mentünk, ahol három helyreállított platform található. Délután pedig besétáltunk a sziget egyetlen városába, Hanga Roába, ahol ittunk egy finom kávét.

I was looking for a good place to stop on the way from Munich to Vienna, and I found a fantastic one in Kufstein. A one-hour train ride from Munich, it’s at the base of the Kaiser mountains and its streets are lined with charming traditional Tyrolean houses. We rode the single-chair lift up the mountain and the surroundings were completely quiet except for birdsong. There are hiking trails up top and you can take your dog up for a walk! (Scroll to see how the doggies ride.) The indoor photos here are from our Auracher Loechl hotel room; I liked the stone walls and the arched stone window of our balcony. Some quick tips if you go: the Bavarian train day pass covers Kufstein even though the town isn’t technically in Bavaria, and if you stay at local hotels like Auracher Loechl, they give you a Kufstein guest pass that allows you to take the chairlift, visit some tourist attractions, and take the regional bus, all for free! River cruises PART 2👇 You can’t go on a river cruise in Europe without visiting Vienna. Usually ships stay in Vienna for two days so you had plenty of time to explore. Vienna is such an impressive old but also modern city. It’s easy to get around town by train and every single spot is absolutely beautiful. We loved riding the horse drawn carriage through the ornate streets of Vienna. It felt like royalty and was worth $45 for a 15 min ride. Afterwards we visited Botanical Garden, the most amazing beautiful library you’ll ever see and found a fun place to eat: a cellar/cave type of restaurant underground that served venison that the owner himself hunted on his land. It doesn’t get more Austrian than that.
