💭 What if we let go of an either/or mindset and remember that if one thing is true, it doesn't automatically mean that another is false. ✨ I think one of the most helpful ways to do this is to consider both/and thinking: 🤔 Both/and thinking recognizes that two things can be true at once. It is the opposite of binary thinking (thinking there are two sides and you can only pick one). 💡Both/and thinking recognizes that different ideas, viewpoints, and feelings can coexist and one doesn't negate the other. 🙌 You can feel grateful for your job and also stressed by the long hours. Both can be true. You don't have to choose just one emotion. 🏡 You can feel happy that you just purchased a new home and sad that you have to leave your current neighborhood. Both emotions are equally valid. 😄 You can feel excited about a major life change and also nervous about the adjustment period. 🔄 You can understand your perspective on an issue, and you can still validate someone else's contradictory stance. 🤔 Both/and thinking is a mindset that moves away from polarizing everything into right or wrong, black or white thinking. Some weeks we nail it, and others, well... I've been sick, off my game, totally out of it. It's been rough! Especially with the weather turning nice and, of course, job and life stuff—this week has been one for the books! But here's the thing—I just keep reminding myself that tough weeks happen. We get thrown off our game, and it may take a little bit to get back on track, but we always find our way back. These are three reminders I keep tell myself as I put on my PJs, wash my face at least three times (big K-beauty fan), and sink right into bed. How do you cope with tough days or weeks? Healing takes time, patience and love. How to “trigger” healing (mentally and emotionally)? - self-appreciation - recognising and setting your boundaries with people - celebrating the little wins - allowing space for negative emotions to come out - feeling the hurt you’ve been repressing and facing its consequences. - remembering that even though it is hella tough at the moment, it’ll be so much easier if you go through the tunnel. It’s an act of returning to yourself from someone you can’t recognise at the moment. It is not linear and it is messy. It oversimplifies complex emotions and experiences, failing to address potential challenges or consider individual circumstances. It overlooks the importance of acknowledging the full range of emotions and validating one's unique journey. ➻ This reflection led me to think about toxic positivity, which places undue emphasis on maintaining a positive mindset regardless of the situation's appropriateness or one's well-being. Toxic positivity can suppress genuine emotions and struggles, leading to feelings of invalidation or guilt for not being constantly positive.
