Συμβαίνει επίσης όταν το άτομο βιώνει πολύ έντονα ένα δύσκολο συναίσθημα όπως, φόβο, θυμό ή λύπη. Και στις δυο περιπτώσεις, εκκρίνονται ορμόνες που επηρεάζουν όλα τα συστήματα ου σώματος από το καρδιακό μέχρι το μυοσκελετικό. Τα σωματικά συμπτώματα που μπορεί να βιώσει το άτομο περιλαμβάνουν ταχυκαρδία, γρήγορη αναπνοή, ιδρώτας, σφίξιμο στο στομάχι, μυϊκή τάση, ζάλη και άλλα. Η κατάσταση της απορρύθμισης λοιπόν είναι το αντίθετο της αυτό-ρύθμισης. When a person is dysregulated it is due to either emotional or physiological overwhelm, by which either the nervous system is in the stress response mode of fight, flight or freeze, or a difficult emotion, such as fear, anger or sadness, is being felt intensely. When the stress response is activated or an emotion is felt intensely, hormones are released effecting all the systems of the body, from the cardiovascular to the muscular, which is experienced with increased heartrate and breathing, sweating, upset stomach, tightened muscles, alertness, etc. The state of dysregulation is the opposite of calm and relaxation. Therefore to regulate oneself when in this state means to be able to calm ones self down and connect with the body and the environment. Some methods to help facilitate physical and emotional self-regulation include grounding methods which help us get in touch with the body through bodily senses (breath, sound, taste, temperature, observing ones surroundings) or physical interventions which include movement or relaxation, and finally cognitive exercises such as mindfulness. The human organism is not built to be in constant stress and overwhelm, therefore self-regulation is a skill we all need to learn for our health and well-being! 𝕎𝕙𝕠 𝕙𝕖𝕣𝕖 𝕕𝕖𝕒𝕝𝕤 𝕨𝕚𝕥𝕙 𝕤𝕥𝕣𝕖𝕤𝕤 𝕦𝕡𝕠𝕟 𝕨𝕒𝕜𝕚𝕟𝕘? Me, yes that would be me ✋🏽 I’m not by any means an expert at handling stress when it arrives at my front door. If my stress management was graded like in school, It would be a D+ 😂 I also think this society has made it so everyone’s day to day life is in a constant state of stress with work, endless technology, overwhelming consumerism and not enough moments to slow down and breathe. So it’s a wonder why no one can regulate their nervous system and body well. This past week I asked myself these questions; Where do I even begin to de-stress? When should I allow myself to slow down? Is it even okay to slow down? What if my stress never goes away? Some things I’ve discovered that have helped me in the last few months are: It’s OKAY to take a day off from everything and do things that bring me comfort. I don’t need to feel guilty for having a self care day, even one in the middle of the week. Taking 5-15 mins to sit and let my mind wander throughout the day and enjoy an activity can help me recenter myself, and take me out of that stressful mindset. It also helps me to be more productive. Listening to my body and understanding my limits. Knowing when to stop and take a break. Going at my own pace while at work because it’s not a race, just because my co workers are grinding 12+ hours a day doesn’t mean I have to. Maybe that works for them but that doesn’t mean it works for me. Let's face the facts ⬇️ The downside to having systems whether you are active about them or not, is that if you are not intentional about creating systems that work for you, different versions may end up stalling your progress and your efforts. Take an organization system for example: Option 1: Your unintentional system has you searching 3 different platforms and 2 different computers for content you need taking you an extra 10 minutes to find each piece of the larger content puzzle you need to put together. The whole process now has to be spread over several days (due to decision fatigue, mental capacity, and time that it took to find what you needed for your current task) and you feel like you spent a lot of effort to not get as much back. Next time you do the same task, this system repeats. Option 2: You have all your files clearly labeled and linked in one main hub that is easily searchable. You take 1-2 minutes to find what you need, use it, and do more with it in one sitting. You finish your task within a few hours and still have the creative capacity to take on another task after a quick break. Both of these options are systems. The difference is that one is helping you through simplification and intentional set up, and the other keeps you stuck in a place of complicated processes. Turning things from Option 1 to Option 2 actually isn't all that hard, but it can be daunting. Recently I have been putting pressure on myself to “get things done”. I was rushing around feeling so stressed, worried that I’d forget what I wanted to do and that I wouldn’t get it all done. If I didn’t get it all done, how was I supposed to achieve all my goals? I knew it was ruining my vibration so I asked myself, why do I feel the need to put so much pressure on myself to get so many things done? What’s the rush? And what I found was an old version of myself who had lost her self trust. I was worried that if I didn’t complete all these tasks then I would forget and never get to where I desire to be. But that defeats the purpose of life. And what is meant for you, will never miss you. Life is about enjoying the process. Appreciating every little step of the way. And if we are not in the present moment, we are closed off to the opportunities that the universe is trying to give us to point us in the direction of our dreams. Don’t let an old version of you stop you from being your true authentic self. It’s getting in the way of achieving your soul-fulfilling dreams. Next time you feel triggered or stressed, ask yourself, why do I feel this way? What has happened in the past that has caused me to behave in this way? 9 times out of 10, you will find that it is simply an old version of you taking over. Once you bring awareness to this, it becomes easier for you to slip into the present moment by reminding yourself that the unfortunate outcome you had last time, is not a guarantee for the current experience. You know that feeling when you say "yes" to something even though every fiber of your being is screaming "no"? We've all been there, right? But here's the thing: every time we ignore our gut and compromise our values, it chips away at our self-confidence. On the flip side, when we set clear boundaries and honor them, it's like we're sending a message to ourselves and the world that says, "Hey, I know what I stand for, and I'm not afraid to stand up for it!" It's a powerful feeling, and it can do wonders for our self-esteem. Think about it this way: confidence isn't about being perfect or having it all figured out. It's about being authentic and true to ourselves. When we act in a way that aligns with our values, we feel good about ourselves, and that self-assurance radiates outward. So, how do we build that confidence? It starts with getting clear on our values and what really matters to us. Once we have that foundation, it becomes easier to make decisions that honor those values. We can say "yes" to the things that light us up and "no" to the things that don't serve us, without guilt or second-guessing. Of course, setting boundaries can be uncomfortable at first, especially if we're not used to it. But like any skill, it gets easier with practice. Start small, and celebrate every time you honor your boundaries and stay true to yourself. And here's the really cool part: as we build our confidence through boundary-setting and value-aligned actions, it has a ripple effect on every area of our lives. We start to show up more fully and authentically in our relationships, our work, and our personal pursuits.
