Personally, I’m not really into wearing these silly garments (unless it comes with a wand off some Harry Potter type.) but for today I’ll participate in your Anglo-Saxon traditions. I never wanted my worth to be validated by a piece of paper created by colonizers for debatable reasons which is why I left college in the first place. But Allah is the greatest of planners. Hello everyone, my name is QISEANA (Key-Sean-Uh), and I am so grateful to serve our community in downtown Long Beach through the practice of Yoga. Yoga is an ancient art that is open and available to all people from all places. Please come down to our studio Yogalution movement at 244 Redondo Ave. in Long Beach California. We’d love to have you. My journey started over 10 years ago when I was getting my undergrad degree at California State University San Bernardino. I was looking for peace. I was looking for balance. I was looking for relief. I joined a yoga class offered in the kinesiology department on campus, but could not sit still or stop my thoughts like they requested, so I walked away. Fast forward 10 years, I moved to Long Beach to change my life of unhealthy coping mechanisms and behaviors. I found myself in the same emotional battle from 10 years earlier, and just wanted peace of mind. I needed a healthy escape. I saw Yoga on the Bluff by the beach and could not believe that this was happening. I wanted to be a part of it. I began taking yoga on the bluff classes and started to find life within me once again. I decided to go to the studio when it opened after the pandemic and joined an event with others. I walked into the studio and was completely taken over with a sense of calm and joy. I was finally where I wanted and needed to be. After a long financial struggle, I was able to participate in the yoga teacher training offered at our studio with Dharma Shakti. One year ago today, I left the Sivananda ashram, in the Himalayas, although I have been practising this lineage of yoga for many years, the 2 week yoga vacation really helped me get back on track and strengthen my own practice of yoga and meditation.
