I may not have definite answers for what the future of this season will look or feel like, but I can ground myself in the promise of this image — this grounding metaphor — of a river, of quiet waters, and allow it to be a place of safety and respite for me in the face of everything else that’s changing and will continue to. I can let that river, that presence, quiet my fears with love and replace my weariness and overwhelm with stillness and rest. There’s a beautiful trail about 20 minutes from our home that my husband and I like to walk when the weather’s nice enough. Along that trail runs a river, steady and quiet. It’s always been one of my favorite places to go when I sense that my soul needs a good dose of tranquility. I’ve thought of that river often throughout this season and now I know why. It physically and externally represents an inner longing and invitation. A longing to be grounded in the midst of change; an invitation to rest in the presence of my own uncertainty. Sometimes, the sky burns, anger rages throughout the land. Heat surges the air with life coming to a halt. The earth trembles under the steady gaze of those red rays. Winds blow hot, enveloping all in its sizzling embrace. Just when there seemed no respite, a low rumble of the clouds moved with a promise. Perhaps, there's some repose to all this anger. It’s become cliche to say that autumn is the best season but I don’t care. I’m a fall girl, through and through. Growing up in Southern California, fall wasn’t different from any other season. So when I moved to the east coast and experienced my first changing of the leaves, I was smitten and addicted to the season. However, the crisp air and colors don’t even scratch the surface of why I love this time of year. There is a feeling of change and endless possibility that takes over in my heart. This season, in particular, things are feeling limitless. We are moving to a new place, I’ve got a new business, I’m met with new opportunities almost daily and I’ve been meeting new friends. Up until this point I’ve felt a little…stuck. Packing up the place, I see relics of the past…my diagnosis days, post NICU days, infantile spasms days and so much more. While we’ve made good memories here, the current residence is also filled with memories of fear, sadness, grief and struggle. From right where I stand, the future looks bright. And while that can certainly be a focus, there is so much more to what we do! ✨ Some people may have encountered OT in specific settings or populations - like in hospital, stroke unit, in a school or other paediatric settings. If you look closely, you can find OTs working with people across the lifespan, from neonatal to long-term care and palliative care. Many OTs, like me, work in the mental health sector. Did you know we are qualified to practice psychotherapy under the controlled act in Ontario? An OT may support you with emotional, physical or cognitive difficulties that make engaging in life difficult. We also consider your environment and how that impacts your ability to thrive. People want all the good things in life, but what they don’t want to do is the work it takes to sustain those things & the scary-ass release of control it takes to get there. People want the new skin, but they don’t want to do the molting it requires to grow that new skin. The molting simultaneously sucks and is also the most rewarding thing you can ever do. The molting is what creates sustainability in your life and the most authentic expression of who you are. Scorpions have kind of been like a spirit guide recently. They keep showing up to me again and again, no matter where I am or what I’m doing. I’m trying to pay attention. Trying to look inwards instead of outwards. What is your peace worth?? I think this is something we should all ask ourselves. To me, it means a lot. But I haven’t always make that clear… For a while (especially during Covid), I was a “yes woman.” I wanted all the experiences and community I could get. I felt sort of lost during that time, and being busy made me feel worthy. My wellbeing took a hit though, and I started having night terrors and anxiety. I would lash out at my family or be totally distant. Although on the outside it looked like I had it all, internally I knew something needed to change. I discovered Kristen Boss and the power of mindset and my thoughts. I took a course on natural pain management and mindfulness. The importance of saying no, taking care of myself and protecting my peace became so clear. I now find myself in a season of saying, “No,” but not in a negative way. And not just because. I have more discernment about how saying yes will impact me and my family. Sometimes we have to go through challenges to learn what our peace is worth. I’m grateful for what they taught me! If you know one more thing is going to make you crazy, it is OK to say NO. Just wanted to say that today. Have a relaxing weekend! Overtime, when you have traveled through rough waters, at some point people from the past will come forward. These people may apologize, or share stories of what they were told about you, or even their own experience of the situation. But it’s from their perspective. Always. Recently I’ve learned a valuable lesson about this. I’ve learned, no matter what was said about me, or done without me knowing, I’m exactly who I am regardless. I am me. Today. This version of me. It’s become cliche to say that autumn is the best season but I don’t care. I’m a fall girl, through and through. Growing up in Southern California, fall wasn’t different from any other season. So when I moved to the east coast and experienced my first changing of the leaves, I was smitten and addicted to the season. However, the crisp air and colors don’t even scratch the surface of why I love this time of year. There is a feeling of change and endless possibility that takes over in my heart. This season, in particular, things are feeling limitless. We are moving to a new place, I’ve got a new business, I’m met with new opportunities almost daily and I’ve been meeting new friends. Up until this point I’ve felt a little…stuck. Packing up the place, I see relics of the past…my diagnosis days, post NICU days, infantile spasms days and so much more. While we’ve made good memories here, the current residence is also filled with memories of fear, sadness, grief and struggle. From right where I stand, the future looks bright. 🌸 B L O O M 🌸 Hi insta-world! It’s been a while and there is a reason for that so here’s an update on life lately and how things have evolved over the last year or so. In December 2022 I met myself at a crossroads, loving where I was but yearning for something more. I felt a nudge from the universe to pursue a path in my work that I’d long left untrodden. I listened. I discussed it with my people. And ultimately I decided to step a foot onto this path once more. A path that would inevitably take me away from the world of coaching, if only for a while. Fast forward to today and I now find myself diving deeper into this new calling headlong. The opportunities are vast, enabling me to fuse passion and purpose together, utilising my background in criminology, previous career experience, and coaching expertise to be of service to those that need it. What does this mean? For now I am closing the doors to my coaching business and no longer taking on new clients. Nothing in life is permanent and I am someone who thrives on change and the vivaciousness of life. One day the doors may open again, but for now I am pressing a gentle pause whilst I navigate a new path in this season of my journey. Queue a more personalised and candid corner of the internet. Will I still be positing about cyclical living, women’s wellness, mental health and all things 🩸? - quite likely! But as and when I want to, just because the feeling to do so arises. So here we are.
