I felt it in 2017. The feeling lingered in 2018. It hit me like a ton of bricks in 2019. I could no longer ignore it in 2020. I took action in 2021. Itโs mental health awareness monthโฆ A time when we bring our focus and attention to a topic that has becoming increasingly more important and paramount in our personal and professional environments. One of the turning points in my own corporate sales leadership journey was coming to the realization that my company and my career were no longer serving me. That was a tough pill to swallow because my career at one point defined me to my core and I identified so strongly with being a sales leader. However, when I got real and real honest with myself - my purpose and the vision for why I started was so far off track from where I wanted to be and knew I could be. I was capable of and worth so much more. There was a deep fear in acknowledging that too. Because I wasnโt so sure I knew how to follow through on those thoughts and feelings. So I kept ignoring the signs until it hit me so hard in the fall of 2019 that I was propelled into action, putting together a plan. But by the time I finally ripped the bandaid off, after 17.5 years of working for Fortune 500 companies and driving sales and leadership initiatives, it was clear that I was completely and utterly burnt out. Iโd gone too far in a negative direction on my own mental health journey and pushed the limits and boundaries of what was safe. I was not only tapped out emotionally, mentally, and physically - my overwhelm and burnout had eaten away at a piece of my soul - and that would take another year, at best, to even begin to retrieve and repair. I know Iโm not alone. I wasnโt then and Iโm certainly not now. As you think about your mental health this month - reflect on your current state of mind. Ask yourself this: Does my purpose for my personal life align with my purpose for my professional and/or entrepreneurial life? Take care of your mind and you take care of yourself. You have been in that uncomfortable chair for hours now! Take 5 minutes to stand up and stretch your back! If it makes you feel better stretch while you make some lunch. 3. TURN ON YO UR FAVORITE MOTIVATIONAL SONG (you know the one!) and just DANCE! You canโt be moody if you shake your booty! 4. RESET YOUR WORKSPACE! You have been working crazy all day!
