Self sabotage is a HUGE symptom of when my mental health is getting bad again. Anyone else feel the same way? I have done all the above 🥹today is one of those self sabotaging days and that’s okay. Does anyone else feel like their mental health takes a dive just in time for Mental Health Awareness Month? This has been me for the past few years, and maybe MH month is in May for a reason... I just haven't googled that part yet. Now that I think about it, it's been more like a Mental Health Awareness QUARTER so let's just agree that this should be important every month. As someone diagnosed with General Anxiety Disorder, I'm always looking for tools to help manage my mental state. I've got a ton of apps, books, journals etc etc. Do I use them all the time? Of course not. It makes me anxious to think about anxiety. Touche. Then in walked Ellie, a local mom and owner of Be Brave Press. I can usually handle criticism because I learn from it. Have a really tough time with rejection because it is based on someone else's feelings which are out of my control and/or I don't understand the basis of the rejection (sometimes called Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria). I wanted to accentuate the feelings of anguish, turmoil and vulnerability different mental health issues can cause. When struggling with Anxiety we can often have a lack of serotonin in our body. Serotonin is a stress hormone, the more we encourage our bodies to produce serotonin the better we will be able to cope with stress and anxiety. Bovenstaande quote kwam ik tegen op Pinterest nadat ik woensdag een afspraak had met een arbeidsdeskundige. Ik ga niet meer terug naar mijn eigen werkgever. En dat deed wel even pijn, want ik voelde mij enorm gefaald. Ik had toch best nog even vol kunnen houden? Maar de burnout en de paniekaanvallen tijdens het reïntegreren daarna zeiden wat anders: dit is niet meer mijn plek. En dat besef is heel dubbel. Want wat is dan wel mijn plek? En gaat het daar wel goedkomen? Gelukkig heb ik een fijne loopbaanconsulent die mij helpt in mijn zoektocht. Ik mag overal waar ik wil werkervaring opdoen en op die manier reïntegreren. Maple leaves 🍁💚 May is mental health awareness month so here is some rambling on my own journey. I’m not trying to solve any issues here. And I’ve had no epiphanies on my condition. I’m just sharing all of this to hopefully raise awareness to mental health disorders in general - and hopefully shed a little light on how intricate they are and how much they can affect daily life. If you’ve been following me for a while, and if you actually read my captions and/or stories, you will know I suffer from anxiety. If you do not have anxiety, it’s difficult to describe what this is like on a daily basis. (Reading a list of symptoms doesn’t seem to cover it). For me, one of the daily habits I experience means I subconsciously hold my breath - a lot. Like pretty much all the time I’m in public - especially in crowded areas. (This has improved in recent years). Being in any crowd is a nightmare - and meeting new people is extremely uncomfortable for me. On a related note, the very nature of the internet, especially social media, means you have to “speak up” and this might make me seem like I’m a lot more outgoing than I am. The biggest surprise about me in real life would me probably be how quiet I am - until I get to know you, that is. 😉 You guys get to see or hear my inner dialogue on here. This is not a good representation of how I actually am or act in real life. Anyway, back to the anxiety… One of the things that pushes me out in nature is the absence of people and that means I can finally relax. Yes, the sound of the wind in the leaves and a nearby river or creek with the rich petrichor smells soothe me very quickly. But the lack of people - that clinches it. Continued in comments… ⬇️
