💭Have you ever wondered why your child is jumping about more frequently or needs more input than others? ❓❓Do you also feel confused because of their behaviours when they require some more sensory inputs?❓❓ 💡💡 You may have a HYPOSENSITIVE CHILD OR A SENSORY SEEKER . This may indicate that your child’s nervous system maybe hypo-reactive where it may take longer for your child to feel the sensation (under-arousal).💡💡 🏷️This checklist will help you narrow down the challenges you face in understanding your child’s sensitivities. 📌Remember this is not a diagnostic criteria based check list, this is just to help you understand more about individual Sensory Processing Difficulties (SPD). 🔶Comment ‘LIST’ and we’ll send you a free expansive version of this checklist. 🔶 🏷️Always reach out to your Occupational therapist for further assistance in order to help your child with sensory difficulties. If your speech therapist says to kick harder, then I guess it's time to make some waves! 🌊 Another important aspect of swim safety is learning to kick in the water. In the water, kicking helps swimmers maintain balance, stability, and body position. Kicking also helps swimmers move more efficiently and propel themselves forward. At Swim Learn Play, you may see our swimmers using physical supports like kick boards and pool noodles to develop this skill. In this shot, our therapist is providing a similar physical support in a play routine. 🏊🏼‍♀️ Let us know in the comments or DMs if you have any questions!

Navigating the world isn't easy if you have neurodiversity issues. Even over 100 years ago the originator of the Alexander Technique found that we humans struggle to adapt modern society.  We over react to stimulus (changes to the environment, difficult social interactions, the need to sit and stand for long periods of time), and as a consequence the stress on our minds and bodies leads to discomfort and pain. As an Alexander Technique teacher I work with a lot of clients who feel uncomfortable in their lives, they hold physical tension born from past trauma and anxiety about the future.  I've helped many people to understand their bodies and minds better, in order to not only reduce tension and pain but so learn how to avoid it in the future. If you are interested, have a look at my website and feel free to contact me to discuss.  sheffieldalexandertechnique.com #alexandertechnique #netheredge #huntersbar #ecclesall #neurodivergent #neurodiversity #autism #adhd

Ever wondered how neurodiversity fuels innovation? It's all about harnessing unique perspectives! 🧠 Neurodiversity refers to the different ways our brains work and interpret information. It's a spectrum of cognitive variations, including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and more. These aren't deficits, but differences that can drive creativity and innovation in the workplace. Here's why embracing neurodiversity is a game-changer for innovation: 1️⃣ Diverse Thinking: Neurodiverse individuals often have unique problem-solving skills and can approach challenges from angles that neurotypical individuals might not consider. This can lead to breakthrough ideas and solutions. 2️⃣ Attention to Detail: Some neurodiverse individuals have a heightened ability to focus and pay attention to details that others may overlook, making them invaluable in roles that require precision and accuracy. 3️⃣ Resilience and Adaptability: Facing a world that's not designed for their cognitive patterns, neurodiverse individuals often develop resilience and adaptability, traits that are crucial for innovation in fast-paced and ever-changing industries. At Dynamic Minds, we understand the power of neurodiversity. We're not just recruiters; we're matchmakers, pairing the unique skills of our candidates with roles where they can truly shine and drive innovation. We believe in People Over Profit, and by valuing each individual's contribution, we help foster an inclusive environment where everyone can thrive. 🌟 We're committed to creating workplaces where neurodiversity is not just accepted but celebrated for the value it brings to the table. Our approach is simple: understand, respect, and leverage the strengths of all minds. Let's chat about how neurodiversity can enrich your team's innovation. Drop a comment or visit dmrecruitment.co.uk to explore how we can support your journey towards a more diverse and innovative future. #Neurodiversity #Innovation #InclusiveRecruitment

Presently, cortical visual impairment (CVI) is the most common cause of permanent visual impairment in children (1-3). The diagnosis of CVI is indicated for children showing abnormal visual responses that cannot be attributed to the eyes themselves. Brain dysfunction must explain the abnormal visual responses, as abnormal ocular structures, abnormal eye movements, and refractive error do not. Fixation and following, even to intense stimulation, may be poor, and the child does not respond normally to people's faces. Visual regard and reaching (in the child with motor capabilities) toward objects is absent. 🍪 CVI is the most common cause of permanent visual impairment in children. 🍪 Accompanying features of CVI include cerebral palsy and developmental delays. 🍪 In many cases, partial recovery of vision is possible. #CVI #CorticalVisualImpairment #visionimpairment #Cerebralpalsy #SmartCookie #SmartCookieWorld #LiveLoveLearn #Taabur #ASD #Autism #AutismSpectrum #TheModernSpectrum #AutismMom #AutismFamily #AutismParents #AutismAwareness #AutismSupport #NeuroDiversity #NeuroDivergent #Parenting #ParentingTips #RareChromo #RareChromosome #RareChromosomeDisorder #GeneDisorder #Inclusion #Awareness #SpecialNeeds

Why do we say no? Sometimes it's because we want the world to think we have it all together... That we're keeping all the plates spinning on our own. Sometimes it's because we don't want to be a burden to others. But here's the truth--allowing someone to offer you support is as much a gift to them as it is to you. They offer because they love you, and you accepting the offer brings that love full circle. So, give it a try. The next time someone offers to bring a meal...or sit with a loved one while you run errands or take a little "me" time...say yes. It's a gift to you and the giver! #Northforklongisland #nofo #socialenterprises #autismfamily #downsyndrome #abilitynotdisability #autism #autismawareness #autismmom #autismacceptance #autismlove #autismspectrum #autismlife #autismsupport #autismparents #autismdad #autismcommunity #asd #asdmom #asdawareness #neurodivergent #neurodiversity #downsyndrome #downsyndromeawareness #downsyndromelove #downsyndromeawarenessmonth #giftideas #giftshop #gifts

🌟 Ever wondered how much untapped potential lies within your workforce? Years ago, I worked in a setting focused on output and results. While we hit our targets, something was missing – genuine trust and inclusivity. It felt like we were working hard to avoid getting into trouble rather than working towards shared, passionate goals. This took a toll on my mental health and that of many colleagues. I recognised the problems, but it wasn’t until I specialised in systemic safeguarding and neurodiversity consultancy that I truly understood the power of an inclusive workplace culture. When employees feel safe, valued, and understood, they perform better and bring their best selves to work. Here are a few key strategies to foster trust and inclusivity: 🔹 Listen Actively: Create channels for open communication. 🔹 Promote Diversity: Celebrate diverse perspectives and backgrounds. 🔹 Provide Flexibility: One size doesn’t fit all – offer flexible work arrangements. 🔹 Educate and Train: Regular training on diversity, inclusion, and safeguarding. One of the most profound changes I witnessed was in an organisation that implemented these strategies. Employee engagement soared, innovation flourished, and turnover rates dropped significantly. It’s clear: a culture of trust and inclusivity benefits everyone. 💡 Start with small, intentional steps to create a more inclusive workplace. The impact can be transformative. Have you experienced or implemented strategies to foster trust and inclusivity? Share your experiences in the comments – let’s learn and grow together! 🌱 #InclusiveWorkplace #Trust #Diversity #EmployeeEngagement #WorkplaceCulture #Neurodiversity #Safeguarding #Leadership #InclusionMatters

🧠 NEURODIVERSITY IS A SUBSET OF BIODIVERSITY #BiodiversityDay 🌎 🔎 Diversity (n):  a measurement of the the degree of variability in a specific location Neuro- (prefix): of the nervous system Nervous system: a. Biological: Brain, Spinal Cord and Nerves b. Socio-Biological: a complex continuously              evolving system influenced by external sensory input, perception and learning Neurodiversity is a term that refers to an obvious and indisputable feature of Earth's biosphere. It names the virtually infinite neuro-cognitive variability within Earth’s  population. Literally it describes any being with a nervous system, but it has come to focus on humans and points to the fact that every human has a unique nervous system with a unique combination of abilities and needs. Some important points about Neurodiversity: 1. it encompasses *all* Humanity 2. it is an advocacy term to name a civil rights movement for psycho-medically labelled minorities and their allies 3. it is a category of the intersectional factors that define advantage or disadvantage 4. it does not mean "neurological disability" or "otherness" 5. it is not a diagnosis or a descriptor of genomes 6. it is a morally neutral term (see below) Neurodiversity is a positive principle, but it is not a moral principle. It has nothing to say about Good vs Evil, Fit vs Unfit, Different vs Disabled. It does not say that all people are inherently good, nor that nature is benign. Neurodiversity pertains to the planet, but morality pertains to the human mind. Thus neurodiversity includes anti-social categories like the "Dark Tetrad”, and so it is important for us to look deeply and thoughtfully at ourselves and others. Neurodiversity changes nothing about Human Nature but gives us a new lens for examining it. Neurodiversity is a subset of Biodiversity, a term mostly used for the purpose of advocating for the conservation of species. Biodiversity holds that human self-interest requires the conservation of all species irrespective of their perceived utility or attractiveness to humans. Continued in comments 👇

🎨 I’ve been really curious lately, where do you buy art to support your favorite artists? Whether this is prints, originals or other kinds of merch related to their art, I think it’s always interesting to see how there’s such a rapidly changing landscape for platforms through which artists are able to have their work noticed and to sell. So I wanted to put forward this question forward to my community. 🏷️ This thought process comes along as I’ve been updating my etsy store lately. If you swipe, you can see that I’ve put together a little featured section with some of my personal favourite pieces. I thought this would also be a perfect time to share a little reminder that you can browse through my etsy to purchase both prints and full-size original canvases of my art! 💬 Please do comment below your thoughts about exposure for artists and their art lately, particularly neurodivergent artists. Have you heard of AAC? 🧐 🖥️ AAC stands for Augmentative and Alternative Communication. It includes all forms of communication (other than oral speech) that are used to express thoughts, needs, wants, and ideas. AAC can be helpful for individuals who have difficulty with spoken language or are unable to use speech to communicate effectively. This may include using tools such as communication boards, speech-generating devices, or sign language.

Non-verbal communication is crucial for expressing our feelings and energy levels. Here's how different states can be communicated: 🔹 Low Energy Levels: Feeling Good: Ideal for quiet activities. Feeling Okay: Time to recharge. Feeling Bad: Important to rest. 🔹 Medium Energy Levels: Feeling Good: Great for routine tasks. Feeling Okay: Suitable for light activities. Feeling Bad: Focus on self-care. 🔹 High Energy Levels: Feeling Good: Perfect for socializing. Feeling Okay: Good for engaging activities. Feeling Bad: Find calming activities. Understanding and communicating your emotions and energy levels is essential for better relationships and well-being. You are free to be & just flow with desire, energy, needs, capacity, & truth. This is the "download" I received in a recent #breathwork session. I don't know about you, but this #genxwoman wasn't taught this! The #5Ps of performing, producing, perfecting, peacekeeping, & pleasing were what I learned...how about you? Trying to be OK, look ok, feel OK, make it OK - these are the things we do in contraction, protection, fear, & survival. It will work until it doesn't. IYKYK. Burnout is really real - unhealed trauma, dysregulated nervous systems, unhealthy relationships & systems, being any kind of "different" in places that want you to stay "in the box" - are all areas me & my clients have been on the struggle bus of "making it". My mentor taught me the phrase & meaning of FULL PERMISSION & it has been so helpful. I dose that out regularly to my clients & they looooove it. It is NOT about being selfish & self-centered, but instead about being real & truthful with yourself. Ending #selfabandonment is a key milestone of #cptsdrecovery. One thing I love about being newly aware of having ADHD is learning NOT to freak the f**k out and start eighty new projects the literal SECOND I have a bit of downtime. This move has never failed to bite me in the ass as soon as life picks up again. 🌪️😱 But in the crux of those ebbs, I'm always VERY stressed out about "not doing anything with my life" which is actually hilarious. Now , instead, I just try to chill the f*ck out and do life sh*t I've been avoiding. For example, this Friday, after decades of procrastination, my wisdom teeth are finally getting the ol' yankaroo. I'm going "under" for the first time -- which makes me a little nervous -- but let's be real, my deepest concerns involve not being able to talk or eat solid food for SEVERAL DAYS (I thought this was minor but apparently it's like, a whole surgery or something) Recovery tips? Movie recommendations?  Smushy food faves? Also GUESS who's gonna be online A LOT next week? 😁😁😁 📸@_dormnt_ 🎨@carissamobilehair . . #adhd #neurospicy🌶 #neurodivergent #neurodiversity #adhdwomen #wisdomteethrecovery

Physical restraint of children has , is and will continue to happen, if we do not stop the abuse. Disabled and Neurodivergent children will continue to be the most at risk. What do we do about it? We listen (to the child) We believe it (happened) We report it ( to authorities/governing bodies) We make sure it never happens again by holding the culprits accountable. With consecuences. Every child deseves to feel safe, at home, in the community and most certainly at school. A 2019 survey of students with disabilities found that 21% of respondents had experienced restraint at school. - Human Rights Commission 2019

I chose Pyro for his name in part because the grey makes him look like he’s been rolling around in ash and also because the internet gave this description (I’m aware it may not be true 🤫)… Pyro embodies the essence of fire itself, representing passion, energy, and intensity. With a name derived from the Greek word for “fire,” Pyro exudes a fiery spirit and a burning drive to pursue his goals. He is known for his boldness and enthusiasm, always eager to ignite excitement and inspiration in those around him. And that sure sounds like someone I want to carry round with me 🩵✨ 🦈🩵🪼🤍 #neurodivergent #neurodiversity #lgbtq #safespace #chronicpainawareness #autismacceptance #adhdacceptance #specialinterest #autism #adhd #actuallyautistic #chronicpain #hypermobileehlersdanlossyndrome #mastcellactivationsyndrome #mcas #fibromyalgia #jellycat #jellycatbunny #jellycatsofinstagram #customjellycat

Lord of the manor 😂 • Harrogate’s a bit posh for me and this monkey bum! But hopefully in the next couple of weeks we will have a full AuDHD diagnosis recognised by the NHS! • It’s been a long and challenging 8 years, some of the challenges for George have been awful, forced into a broken education system that isn’t designed for boys like my wonderful, energetic, eloquent monkey. • And just as we close this chapter for George the next one starts for Billy. Blessed with 2 neurospicy boys, hopefully the system doesn’t fail Billy like it did George. Early recognition, diagnosis and intervention really does change the trajectory of those with neurodiversity’s. • #neurospicy #neurodiversity #adhd #autism #autismparent #dobetter #diagnosis #blueeyedboy #adventures #harrogate

NEW PODCAST RELEASED a 'must listen' for anybody wishing to truly understand the benefits of embracing neurodiversity in the workplace. In our latest episode of the Cyber Versed podcast, we continue with our mini-series on Diversity in Cyber; this time, we are looking at Neurodiversity. Three exceptional guests join Mandy Haeburn-Little: Dr Emma Philpott MBE, CEO at The IASME Consortium; Jonathon Ellison OBE, Director of National Resilience and Future Technology at the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC); and Jessica Burden, Security Engineer at IASME Consortium. During the discussion, all three more than adequately explain the numerous advantages of employing neurodivergent people. Both Jonathon and Emma outline how they have not only embraced neurodivergent workforces but also demonstrate the many benefits and how both organisations are thriving because of it. Indeed, Jonathon explains that he considers their attitude towards recruiting a broad range of neurodivergent people as 'mission-critical'. Jess Burden also provides an open and very honest insight as a neurodivergent employee who has progressed in IASME to become a security engineer. She explains very clearly some of the challenges faced by her and many others and how her colleagues and the culture at IASME have helped her progress and grow as an individual and a valuable employee. Fear is a powerful emotion; it often disguises itself as a protective cloak, preventing us from taking actions that may cause harm. However, the true damage sometimes arises from the inaction that fear allows. Our fear of failure and being laughed at often holds us back from pursuing our dreams. If we can conquer this fear, embrace the potential for failure, and take action, we can attain everything we've ever aspired to. #writerslife #newbooks #writers #autistic #disabilityawareness #disabilitysupport #disability #NeurodiversityAwareness #neurodiversity #lifecoachformoms #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthsupport #mentalhealthmatters #lifecoachforchildren #lifecoachforwomen #lifecoachformen #mentalhealth #autism #healthcoaching #personalgrowthcoach #personalgrowth #positiveattitude #inspirational #inspiration #MeditationJourney #meditationpractice #meditation #lifecoachinghappiness #lifecoachtips #lifecoach

Living with autism often means navigating a world full of sensory challenges. Many autistic individuals experience heightened sensitivity to lights, sounds, textures, smells and tastes, which can be overwhelming. If you’re autistic, consider using noise-canceling headphones, wearing sunglasses, or creating a calm space at home to manage sensory overload. For parents, understanding your child’s specific sensitivities and adjusting their environment accordingly can make a significant difference. Offering sensory toys, using soft lighting, and maintaining a predictable routine can provide comfort. wWe can foster inclusivity by promoting sensory-friendly public spaces and being mindful of sensory triggers. Simple acts like lowering the volume in public areas and being patient and understanding can go a long way. #ActuallyAutistic #autistic #autism #neurodiversity #neurodivergent #advocacy #spectrum #AutismAwareness #autisticmemes #autisticpride

Electric Cross In ancient times, crucifixion was a brutal, public execution meant to shame and silence the condemned. Today, social media "cancelling" serves a similar purpose, albeit virtually. The mob mentality of online shaming aims to destroy reputations and careers, effectively "crucifying" the target in the public square of the internet. Both involve public humiliation without due process or the opportunity for redemption. In both cases, judgment is swift, merciless, and often disproportionate to the alleged offence. The connection between Renaissance paintings of the crucifixion and Instagram can be explored through Guy Debord's concept of the "spectacle." In his book "The Society of the Spectacle," he argues modern society is dominated by representations and images, which  replace genuine human interaction and experience. Renaissance paintings of the crucifixion were commissioned by the church or wealthy patrons to convey a powerful religious message. They were designed to evoke strong emotions and convey the suffering and sacrifice of Christ. Similarly, Instagram thrives on carefully curated images and representations that often presents an idealised version of life. The "likes" and comments on Instagram posts are a form of public judgment, not unlike the way the crucifixion was used as a public spectacle to pass judgment on the condemned. Renaissance paintings of the crucifixion were often displayed in churches, where they could be seen by all as a constant reminder of religious authority and judgment. Similarly, Instagram creates a virtual cathedral where users are constantly aware of the potential for their posts to be seen and judged by others. In both cases, the spectacle creates a powerful system of social control and influence. Renaissance paintings of the crucifixion used religious imagery to shape public opinion and reinforce the authority of the church, while Instagram uses curated images and the threat of public judgment to shape behaviour and conformity in our digital age.   #artificiallyinduced  #flowersofinstagram  #Autism  #neurodiversity #botanicalphotograph #notreal  #disability #stilllifephotography #spectacle #church #social media

The meaning: Well… Neuro KiND is built on inclusivity & kindness. Simple as that. The ‘ND’ in the word KiND is in capitals as a nod to how some of us refer to ourselves in the Neurodivergent community (Eg: I’m ND = I’m neurodivergent). The colour orange… Well if I’m being perfectly honest, the colour combo of the logo was inspired by one of my daughters jumpers (she’s cool AF). But then I realised that the psychology behind the colour orange in branding means to create connection and to be inclusive. Meant. To. Be. So there it is, how the name came to be! #NeuroKiND

Today I have been discharged from Therapy 😍❤️ I have spent the last 5 months in therapy for anxiety and depression and I am proud to say I have finally been discharged! My first step in recovery was admitting I was not okay, I was really not coping well. Being a SEN parent is bloody hard work. I was struggling to find any positives to the journey and it resulted in me not having the bond with my child the way I wish I had. Her 24hour round care was a lot for me. Let’s fast forward 🥹… We are doing great! Amber-Leigh is in the best SEN school around and she is progressing at her own pace 🫶. The respite is helping me beyond words! With the Nanny help and school I get 8am-12.45pm to myself Monday to Friday! I use this time to catch up on sleep if it has been a rough night, do housework, socialise and drink a hot cup of coffee (that my savage 3 year old isn’t yanking out my hands.) I am no longer anxious about leaving the house with her. I think that is mainly a result of the time I get to myself in the morning. She can really have bad days but I have so much more patience now. My attitude towards life has completely changed and I never want to go back to the person I was ever again. It is weird because you could say some days are more difficult than they were 5 months ago. In the sense of, her eating and her tantrums can be a lot worse. It is about mindset, I mentally can deal with the day a lot better. I hope you all have a lovely day and remember, there is no shame in speaking to someone! ❤️ #senmummy #sendparents #sendkids #autism #autismawareness #neurodiversity #asd #asdmummy #mentalhealth #perentlife #dayinthelife #sensoryprocessingdisorder #spd #spdawareness #pica #talkingtherapyberkshire #therapy #thelifeofamberleigh
