Being able to get away for a few days with minimal thought to how I can present myself in the most attractive way possible, but know how utterly impossible it was to hide my size (and my shame at being that size) makes me speechless. I left the house for four days without taking into account all of the outfits I'd need. Oops! Embarrassing! Oh well... I can pivot! Before, I'd have beat myself up. I'd have judged myself harshly. I'd have missed out on being present for all the family time (all in my head about all the things). Should I have learned a long time ago to love myself no matter what? Yes. Did I? No. Am I learning now? Yes! Even as I look and feel more attractive and healthier, I'm practicing loving every little thing about myself (the pretty things and the not-so-pretty things). I'm able to hike up a million steps in Cordova Tower. I'm able to grab my purse and go without a second thought to what anyone else thinks of how I present... Wow, just wow!!! #10 out of 700+ Agents in our @kwnorthatlanta office. This is truly a gratitude moment. Last year, I had my worst start ever in Real Estate, even worse than the pandemic year. I just wasn’t prepared for the shift. I had a foot surgery that took me down for longer than expected. I wasn’t proactively building my pipeline… it was all the things!! Happy Endangered Species Day! Kairos was started as an attempt to raise awareness and appreciation for lesser-known, and often endangered, species. We understand that we protect what we love. One of our favorite illustrations of this is our friend Kelly"s love for a little plain brown bird called the Florida Grasshopper Sparrow. Only 3 years ago there were only around 100 left in the wild. The sparrow pictured on this design is one of those 100, taken through Kelly's scope in the field. Kelly fell in love with those little plain brown birds and after studying them in the wild, moved to save them. She now helps breed Florida Grasshopper Sparrows at Brevard Zoo. After 3 years, Kelly and her team have helped 116 new sparrows come into existence and be released into the wilds of Florida. New babies are being born right now! What's more is that those same zoo-bred birds have been spotted in the wild, proving that they have the skills to survive. We love your heart, Kelly. And we salute the others like you, on this day and every day. Most of the animals we talk about are in similar situations. The night I met my wife on May 25, (Friday night) 2001, I shared with her the vision of the Bridge Builder communities and that I wanted to create a neighborhood a community to take care of, marginalized youth. I had no clue that I was speaking to a social worker who at that time was employed by, one of our current community partners, the Augusta partnership. I just knew that I was drawn to ShDonna and by the end of the conversation, I knew that she had to join me on this journey as my wife. In fact, that evening she said that she would love to be the Executive Director of my organization once we launched. Well, fast-forward 20 plus years, four military deployments to the Middle East, four children and three grandchildren later, here we are back where it all started, preparing to create a community of care for young adults, aging out of Foster Care. We jumped right in and… 📦 Negotiated to move their stuff into the garage (notoriously is not allowed with this builder) 🛌 Arranged for a comfortable hotel stay 🦞 Set them up with a nice dinner (Cajun style at Dwight’s of course) 📝 Contracted a moving company to move furniture from garage into house the next day. 🙏🆘Urgent - Sweet Zoey has no place to go 🙏🆘 Zoey is available w/transport to PA/NJ/CT/NY Little Zoey was a breeder surrender when the breeder decided he no longer needed her for a profit. Thankfully instead of euthanizing her for no reason he turned her into a shelter in Georgia where we worked with our rescue affiliates and had found what we thought was her forever home. Zoey is currently on transport as of this morning heading up North with what was supposed to be her freedom ride to a loving home. Last evening and after spending weeks with the adopter going over everything the adopter backed out!!! We were in shock and asked why of course and after telling her we had no place for her to go since she is on transport, the adopter stated, and I quote "CAN'T YOU JUST BRING HER TO A LOCAL SHELTER??" Horrified by that response, I told her we are a rescue and save dogs from shelter environments where they are at risk of being euthanized every single day for no reason other than space. So even though we vet people to the best of our ability there is no vetting for ignorance. That said, this poor baby is on her way and we need either a foster, foster to adopt or adopter ASAP! Zoey is HW+ which is not contagious to anyone or other dogs and RTH made a promise that we would take care of this girl a few months ago and wherever she ends up our rescue will pay for her treatment until finished. Sombra’s House 🏡 #1,039 Delivered Thanks to Julie Wagoner we were able to give a much needed shelter to very deserving Sombra! ❤️This delivery was extra special because Julie, who donated this much-needed shelter, helped us deliver it! We loved this!❤️ We first met Sombra at an SOS el Arca sterilization campaign in (Cristo Rey) a couple months ago. Sadly, at the time of his neuter surgery, it was noted he had TVT. Fortunately, his angel Valentina stepped up, raised the funds and covered his weekly chemotherapy treatments! Sombra may be a street dog but, he has many angels looking out for him - Valentina and his caregivers! 🩵Valentina (who volunteers for Voluntarios Perrunos) reached out to us asking for a shelter for him! Now, Sombra is neutered, TVT FREE, AND has a new Snoopi house to help keep him safe and comfortable during the torrential rains and hot sun that are a fact of life here in Playa del Carmen. ❤️With the help of Julie, we were able to make a huge difference in Sombra’s life. 🙏🏻THANK YOU Julie! 🏡Slowly we are improving lives - one dog house at a time.🐶 ❤️Thanks to Chris Schmitz who donated the mat to go into his new Snoopi house. We want to thank the St. James Service club for hosting their annual ‘Paws & Pampers Blitz’ and choosing us as one of the recipients. The results of the third annual pet food and diaper collection resulted in $2,190 in-kind donations, including 391 pounds of dry pet food valued at $587; $150 Chewy gift card; 200 gallon-size zip lock bags for distributing bulk pet food in manageable quantities, valued at $40; and $1,415 in diapers/pullups/wipes. Also, $820 in monetary contributions were received, with $410 distributed to Paws-Ability for its Pantry and remaining $410 used to purchase additional diapers. "My husband was deployed and I don't have family in the area. Those first few nights alone were incredibly difficult. Every little squeak on the monitor had me springing out of bed, convinced something was terribly wrong. With an overnight doula by my side, things changed. My doula became the calming presence my sleep-deprived self desperately needed. Knowing there was a trained professional looking after our baby allowed me to finally relax and actually fall asleep. It was like a switch flipped – peace of mind and a chance to truly rest. My milk supply improved, my brain fog lifted and I was able to think clearly. It's incredible what sleep can do for our bodies! Overnight doulas are the ninjas of the newborn world. They help with night feedings, diaper changes, and the oh-so-important task of putting the baby back to sleep – all with a quiet efficiency that allowed me to stay in a blissful slumber. My improved rest was a game-changer. I woke up feeling refreshed and ready to tackle the day. (or at least ready to take care of baby without feeling like a zombie)." Porgi is an absolutely adorable Corgi/Pitbull mix and we can see that he got his good looks from both his mom and his dad (see last two photos). This guy is great with dogs and humans of all sizes. He will give you the warmest welcome when you come home, he is potty trained, walks great, on a leash, he sleeps through the night, is crate trained, working on puppy cues like “sit” and “come” and will easily bring a smile to your face. It takes a village! 👏We are excited to announce we are putting the finishing touches on the dedicated mental health space at Horse & Buddy. What started as a vision and some markers in the woods has turned into a beautiful space in the woods. We hope you join us on Sunday, May 19th from 5:00-7:00 pm for our Mental Health Space Open House to see this new space, meet our therapists, equine specialists, and our horses! This space will provide privacy and shade to our Equine Partnered Play Therapy and Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy clients without having to set up a space in the sun each time a session is scheduled. 🎉Huge shout out 🎉to all of those who had hands involved in this project with a HUGE thank you to Dick, Mike, Paul, Dave, and Craig for their dedication in getting this complete.
