Europäischer Luchs (Lynx lynx lynx) im #zooduisburg 🇩🇪 Der Europäische Luchs ist eine von drei bzw. vier in Europa vorkommenden Unterarten des Eurasischen Luchses. Er ist vor allem in Nord- und Osteuropa verbreitet. Er erreicht eine Körperlänge von 120 cm und wiegt im Durschnitt 20-25 kg. Der nachtaktive Luchs jagt allein. Zum Beutespektrum gehört praktisch alles von der Maus bis zum Wildschwein, von großen Hirscharten nur die Jungtiere. Gelegentlich werden auch Fische gefressen. Der Eurasische Luchs gilt laut IUCN als nicht gefährdet. Einige Unterarten bzw. regionale Populationen sind jedoch bedroht. Seit dem späten Mittelalter hatte man versucht den Luchs in Europa auszurotten. Dank einiger Schutzmaßnahmen konnten in den letzten Jahrzehnten benachbarte Populationen wieder ansiedeln und Auswilderungen stattfinden. Natürlich gibt es beim Luchs, wie auch beim Wolf, große Meinungsverschiedenheiten. It is widespread in northern and eastern Europe. They can reach a body length of 120 cm and weigh 20-25 kg on average. The nocturnal lynx hunts alone. Its typical prey can range from mice to wild boars, from larger deer species only calves. Sometimes they even eat fish. The IUCN lists the Eurasian lynx as Least Concern, although some subspecies and regional populations are threatened. Since the late Middle Ages attempts were made to eradicate the lynx in Europe. In the last decades neighboring populations could settle again, thanks to conservation efforts. Reintroduction programs were successful, too. There are a lot of disagreements on the reintroduction of lynx in Europe, the same as with wolves. What a beautiful day for the team to do some much needed bench and path maintenance in Cannon Hill South. We were generously fueled by tasty treats from Andre @summercampout at Pilford Farm. It's lovely to get support from our neighbours! Two failed perch benches were replaced, Kevin and Janet's bench was repaired, sanded and oiled and the two picnic benches in the Glade were repaired sanded and oiled to extend their life a little longer. The team also cut back some encroaching vegetation along the bridleway. To some, Humans are capable of weilding strong emotions of our own. In the animal kingdom, maternal instincts are equal or vastly superior to bonds they share. However, both groups demonstrate extraordinary behaviors when raising young, even if it's only a biologically innate instinct. In honor of #MothersDay, we'll shout out the parenthood in species and how the lengths they go for their kin - In most cases, motherhood in mammals and some avians are responsible for babies. While males leave after mating, watching all your offspring can be incredibly challenging. With intense emotions, mothers will fight tooth and nail against any confrontation. Even so, first-time moms have been known to reject their calfs and cubs. Reasons could be that they are unable to benefit them properly or simply have no desire to raise them. So, how exactly is it done with the aid of wildlife care specialists in zoological settings? - Animals are constantly giving enrichment. Keeping the cognitive functions of the mind and body helps retain the well-being of an individual. Exhibits will also mimic natural behavior and responses to replicate what a mother and her children would encounter in the wild. Whether it's practicing your pounce, sticking together for safety, or learning social skills, they are molded into becoming the predecessor in the future with the genes they carry. If a newborn does happen to be deserted by the parent, wildlife care specialists will hand raise the young animal themselves. Siempre quise ver esta especie de raya eléctrica y mi sueño se hizo realidad, aunque no de la forma que me gustaría verla: viva y observarla mientras buceo... Encontré este ejemplar durante un paseo al atardecer, apareció en la orilla del mar, lamentablemente ya muerta, una hembra muy joven, diminuta, un poco más grande que mi muñeca. La tremielga o raya torpedo común (Torpedo torpedo) es un pez cartilaginoso mediano similar a la tembladera un nombre que también se usa para llamar al pez. Para defenderse, emite descargas eléctricas de 220 voltios gracias a unos órganos que tiene a los lados para defenderse de los que se lo quieren comer. Mide entre 30 y 60 cm. Vive en el océano Atlántico oriental y en el mar Mediterráneo. Nada en los fondos fangoso o arenosos próximos a las costas. Su carácter es solitario. Female sharks have thicker skin than their male counterparts so they can handle the mating process where the males use their teeth to hold on. After that these moms heal and keep on being the tough sharks they are until they finally give birth to their pups in the safest places they can find. For many species that’s in shallow coastal waters, mangroves, or estuaries. They may not stay with their young after birth, but they try to give them the best chance at life!
