Her work at TRE: Carol has helped people we serve through the intake process, Early Intervention, and is now supporting families through the CHCBS waiver, which helps children with disabilities gain the services they need. During my time on the intake team, I saw many children approved for services that I knew would make a direct impact in their lives. We need Parade Day volunteers for the following roles: Barricade Staff: Barricade volunteers ensure traffic control plan is implemented correctly, assist spectators, and maintain parade security. Volunteer Check-In: Duties include registering volunteers, providing information, and distributing supplies. This role offers opportunities for interaction with other volunteers. Participant Check-In: Gives entries their parade number, gives instructions on lining up and offers refreshments. Barrier Carrier: Carry on and be the first to introduce your assigned unit to the Parade route! You will lead the way for your unit with sponsor provided signage Unit Marshal: Walks the parade route, makes sure that all are safe (in coordination with the EPD) and makes sure there are no gaps between vehicles. Eating Disorders Coalition Advocacy Day 2024. Glad to be back in person at Capitol Hill for the first time since covid! 💜 This nonprofit organization means so much to me. As I continue my recovery journey, it’s been especially important to me to help make a difference by participating in lobby day. This year advocates across the nation are met with their U.S. Representatives & Senators to ask them to co-sponsor the Kids Online Safety Act! (KOSA). The Kids Online Safety Act (H.R. 7891/S.1409) is a comprehensive social media platform accountability bill that seeks to address specific harms posed by platform algorithms. This bill will be addressing an ongoing problem with TikTok, instagram, Meta, etc. creators monetizing off of triggering content. Also how the algorithm exposes minors to this content without it being searched! Did you know, every 2.6 minutes, harmful content is advertised on TikTok? These are YOUTH targeted ads to maximize engagement & spending! There’s been a media-fueled rise in youth psychiatric conditions due to the harmful mental health content available & pushed on teens! This is not okay! We are pushing senators & state representatives to help turn this act to LAW. In addition we also asked for co sponsors on The Nutrition Care Act (H.R. 6961/S. 3010)-to fix a gap in Medicare Part B coverage, which excludes individuals with ED from receiving an essential component of eating disorders treatment - medical nutrition therapy. In recovery, continued nutrition appointments are crucial! But because of cost, not everyone can afford it. I commend my father Kevin Hurst for attending the EDC advocacy day since we heard of the organization back in 2014 during my residential stay at Avalon Hills in Utah. His passion, commitment & involvement means so much to me. He also has been a Pennsylvania team leader for quite a few years now. May is National Bike Month, promoted by the League of American Bicyclists and celebrated in communities from coast to coast. Established in 1956, National Bike Month is a chance to showcase the many benefits of bicycling! Join us as we pedal into a month-long celebration to ensure that every child will have the opportunity to learn to ride a bike in kindergarten PE class! Presently, nearly 70 schools are actively fundraising to adopt the All Kids Bike Learn-to-Ride Kindergarten PE Program. This means that the school administration is extremely excited to teach kids how to ride a bike in school, but they are lacking the funding to do so. Our ambitious goal is to help each of these schools across the finish line and get them fully funded by the end of the school year. This means when those little kiddos come back to school in the Fall, bike riding will be part of their PE class! We were told that such a feat was impossible. Despite doubts, we persisted, fueled by determination. After raising significant funds, we approached foundations, knowing one's support could open doors. Yet, the first response was a devastating "no," leaving me shattered. But from despair emerged resilience. Formulating a new plan with my committee, we approached the foundation again. Major appreciation to the students of Sehome High School Environmental Club who coordinated with us to host an ivy removal work party at their campus this past Saturday, AND held a penny-drive fundraiser for WMTP during Earth Week.
