New photoshoot alert ๐โโ๏ธ๐ธ! Remember this beary handsome Teddy? The adorable 7-10 year old Maltipoo (our best guess!) is a true sweetheart who adores his humans and thrives on companionship. Teddy walks perfectly on a leash, making walks with him the best part of your day. He is mostly housebroken, but may need a little refresher in his new home to help him adjust. Teddy is not suited for apartment living as he tends to bark when left alone (same) so a home where someone is around would be ideal. This snuggly guy lives in harmony with the resident cat in his foster and would absolutely do well with other cats, although his dream home would include another doggy sibling to play and cuddle with. Teddy enjoys sleeping in his dog bed next to his foster mom and he occasionally may jump up to cuddle on her bed during the night.ย ย If you want a pup you could easily mistake for a stuffed animal, Teddy is your guy. Heartworm is a subject that is very important to us. Many of the dogs that come into our care are infected with heartworms. Vala, Lizzie, Dawson, Norah, and Roscoe all came into our care heartworm positive. We want to take a moment to talk to you about the extreme dangers that heartworms pose to dogs, and how you can avoid them. Heartworms, left untreated, are fatal, and the treatment, while accessible, is expensive, and depending on severity and length of time the dog had the heartworms-can still mean that the dog is left with lasting, lifelong implications, such as permanent heart and lung damage. The good news? Heartworm is completely preventable. Keeping your dog on routine heartworm prevention is much more affordable than trying to treat heartworm after your dog is already infected. Even better? We have had the most upsetting and desperate week at DASH, with so many heartbreaking rescues being bought to us day in, day out. A particularly sad case comes from near Pylos: A young dog was found seriously injured, probably after a collision with a car. A villager informed us that the dog was wandering around the area without any direction for two days. With a broken jaw and a deep wound indicating severe trauma, her situation was beyond critical. Immediate vet care was essential to save her life and give her a chance at recovery. The severity of her injuries was staggering, but there is good news today. She has been operated on, her wound has been stitched and her jaw will heal. She is no longer scared, she seems to sense that she is in safe and loving hands here at DASH. She will be treated for any diseases and given anti-tick medication. She will need ongoing care and medical attention but we are confident that she is now on her way to full recovery. Any donation, no matter how small, is a ray of light in this dark hour. Please help us give this poor dog a chance at a new life. Your compassion and support is needed now more than ever. Day 3 ๐ตโโ๏ธ๐๐๐ผ Started the day at Crestview Church with Pastor Mark and his wife Deone leading us on the trails using their tandem bike. Our first stop was at @boulderpolice to pay tribute to the life of fallen officer Eric Talley (EOW 3-22-2021). Deputy Chief Ron Gosage delivered a moving testimonial about Officer Talley, highlighting his role as a devoted father, faithful Catholic, and strong leader who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect the community. His obituary described him as someone who touched many hearts, saved lives, and was loved by all. Our ride today allowed us to share in the grief and honor his memory. These rides are a way to show support to the community and the families of the fallen. ๐ After Boulder, we headed to the Boulder County Sheriffโs Office substation in Lyons, covering 43.5 miles with 3474 feet of climbing. Along the way, we indulged in delicious pie at Colorado Cherry Company. Continuing our journey, we rode into Estes Park and concluded our day at Park Fellowship Church. DAY 2 - 72 miles ๐ฒ We embarked on our journey from Sedalia to the Arvada Police Department, Colorado, where we were warmly welcomed by Chief Brady, Deputy Chief Reeves, and Detective Ross. Our stop in Arvada was to pay tribute to fallen officer Dillon Vakoff (EOW 09-11-22), whose memory we honor with the words "NEVER FORGET" on our jerseys. For the past 9 years, we have commemorated all the fallen officers in Colorado since the inception of our ride. It was an honor to pause and reflect on Dillon Vakoff's life and achievements, described by Detective Ross as an exceptional friend dearly missed by his loved ones and the community. ๐ Our journey continued as we were greeted in Boulder by Boulder County Sheriff's Office Sheriff Curtis Johnson and his team at the Davidson Mesa Scenic Overlook, where deputies cheered on the riders. Commander Oehlkers from Boulder County has been a valuable asset to our team, dedicating his time to ensure the safety of our riders as the "caboose," ensuring no one is left behind throughout the day. ๐ตโโ๏ธ Our rest for the night will be at Crestview Christian Church, generously hosted by Pastor Mark, who surprised the riders with a screening of the Colorado Avalanche game on the big screen, a wonderful treat after a long day. DAY 1 - 72 miles ๐ตโโ๏ธ This morning, we kicked off our Tour de SHIELD616 - Colorado at @coloradospringsscheels and continued to the @cospringspolice Falcon Division. Deputy Chief Jensen from CSPD shared heartfelt words about his late brother, Detective Jared Jensen, and presented each rider with an End of Watch patch and challenge coin. Despite the years that have passed, the pain of loss remains palpable. It was an honor to pay tribute to Officer Jared Jensen (EOW 2-22-2006). After Falcon, we rode to the El Paso County Emergency Services Center where Undersheriff Kramer and Deputy Matt Gaw from EPCSheriff greeted us warmly. Deputy Gaw, who sits on our Board of Directors, recounted his time serving alongside Deputy Andrew Peery (EOW 8-07-2022) and emphasized the significant impact he made during his tenure. Deputy Gaw bestowed the riders with an End of Watch patch in memory of Andrew Peery. Our journey included a scenic ride around Garden of the Gods and through Monument, where Chief Regan and @monumentpolicedepartment extended a warm welcome as we passed through the town! Continuing along Perry Park Road, we reached our evening stop at the West Douglas County Fire Protection District in Sedalia, where we are savoring Bud's Burgers for dinner, which was so graciously donated to our team from the restaurant! ๐ Stay tuned for more updates on tomorrow's ride!
