Last year we decided to donate 5% of our proceeds to Postpartum Support international from our sales during the month of May. We are doing it again this year and have already more than doubled last years amount. We are only halfway through the month so this is really exciting! May is maternal mental health awareness month. We believe in advocating and finding support for women that encounter perinatal mood disorders, like postpartum depression amongst a long list of others. There is often not enough support for new moms, not enough education and awareness, and certainly not enough help. PSI checks the boxes on these and we wanted to be able to help someone, in some way. Al-muhibbah Foundation Offers Free Medical Outreach to Bauchi Communities. Almuhibbah Foundation, in partnership with Sam Pharmaceuticals India and Al Basar International Foundation, has launched a free medical outreach program to provide healthcare services to individuals living with diabetes and eye problems in Bauchi State. The program, which was flagged off at the Almuhibbah Foundation office in Bauchi, aims to distribute free drugs to 3000 people living with diabetes, as well as provide free eye screening and cataract surgery to those in need. So far, 54 people have benefited from the cataract eye surgery, while 140 have received free eye screening. The Founder of Almuhibbah Foundation, Hajiya Aishatu Bala Muhammed, who is also the First Lady of Bauchi State, emphasized the foundation's commitment to improving healthcare service delivery in the state. She urged beneficiaries to make the most of the opportunity and take care of their health to ensure a healthy living environment. Representatives from Sam Pharmaceuticals India and the Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development Agency praised the gesture of Almuhibbah Foundation and promised continued support. Beneficiaries of the program, Adamu Shuaibu Kumbala and Jamila Hassan, expressed their gratitude to Almuhibbah Foundation for the opportunity to access free medical care. In 2017, the board of @caritasofaustin, a nonprofit dedicated to ending homelessness in Austin, Tex., noticed something. Trustees had never looked much like the people the organization served, who are disproportionately Black men. “Historically, our board had been either exclusively or majority white,” says Jo Kathryn Quinn, chief executive of the group. That needed to change, trustees decided. Ahead of implementing new recruitment goals, Quinn, who is white, embarked on a listening tour. She asked previous trustees of color about their experience. “Consistently, they felt like they didn’t belong,” Quinn says. Some even felt other trustees acted aggressively toward them because of their race. Hearing that made Quinn sad and angry. She hadn’t noticed this friction, and she says the trustees hadn’t mentioned it to her during their board terms. “It just went over my head,” Quinn says. If the board was going to attract more trustees of color, it needed to do a better job making them feel welcomed and valued. What an inspiring way to start our day! Thank you to the @ottawahospital for inviting Daniel MacMillan and I to join Tim Kluke, President & CEO of TOH Foundation at Leadership Development Institute conference. Tim led an emotional fireside chat about how The Ottawa Hospital has impacted our lives and why it’s so important for our family to give back. Dan shared his journey battling cancer through the pandemic, the feeling of not being in control of the outcome, and the army of friends and family that rallied to push him through the hardest battle of his life. As a caregiver, it was even more important to put my trust in the amazing medical teams who were integral in Dan’s care. I also saw the burden Dan carried on the “survivor’s journey” - he didn’t ring the bell at the end of his treatment. He didn’t feel he deserved to, knowing that there were so many people from our community who may not make it through to share their own stories with us. He saw in their faces our own family members, our neighbours, our friends and colleagues. This evening, we had the incredible opportunity to visit @h.o.p.efullpastures to sit and talk with the children they serve and share our lemonade story. 💛🍋 This is such a wonderful nonprofit located in Ross who strive to create a safe, therapeutic environment to help vulnerable youth overcome fear, loss, and trauma. These are children who have suffered terrible abuse, neglect, and much more. In their beautiful space, they offer hope and education to these children and families through animal-assisted interventions, as well as mentorship and guided lessons. They recently had some playroom needs so we teamed up with @ericschmidtpes Playground Equipment Services and were able to provide them with new flooring and some new play equipment. We’re even looking into some play equipment for the animals that Eric has leftover from his playground builds! We look forward to continuing our partnership with them and seeing how we can contribute to their needs. Left my client’s house while it was hailing on Friday in Como, CO to drive ~11 hours to Las Vegas after buying a last-minute ticket to the Steve Irwin Gala. Did my hair and makeup 30 minutes prior to the opening, in a Planet Fitness restroom, then zipped up my Michael Costello gown and booked it to the Bellagio. IF THERE’S A WILL, THERE’S A WAY! I went from not knowing a single soul, to making friends in lines, in “The Girl’s Room,” and on the dance floor. The energy at this event was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced — hundreds of people who share the same identity, as an animal-lover, philanthropist, conservationist, and visionary. We’re excited to hear about a new partnership between Providence Living and @northernhealthbc to bring a new long term care home to Prince George, British Columbia. This home will adopt a social relational model of care, supported by @advancinghlth. So what does this mean for the people who will live in this long-term care home? What does this mean for their families? Under the social relational model of care, residents and families are at the core of the approach. The main priority is to help residents live their best day by restructuring how medical and nursing care is organized and delivered. Residents will be encouraged and supported to maintain their independence by having control over their day & what it looks like. If a resident is a nightowl, they’ll have the choice to sleep in. If the resident is an early bird, they’ll have the choice to wake up early and take a stroll in the garden space.
