Only and Forever by Chloe Liese ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Bergman Brothers series book 7, Viggo’s story I enjoyed most of the Bergman Brothers series, so I had to finish with Viggo’s story! If you liked the other books and are okay with some similarities, then I’d bet you’ll like this one. I’ve appreciated the neurodivergent representation in each book from this author, but they began to feel a bit repetitive. I love the wholesome content from the Bergman family and I love seeing where each character is now. The biggest reason I took away stars from my rating was for the role reversal between the MMC and FMC. I didn’t love the dynamic between the characters and it felt a bit off to me. I listened to this on audio and enjoyed the audiobook performance. I read a review of the handmaid’s tale while I was reading the book. The reviewer’s comment went along the lines of “ambiguous book. I can’t believe the most liberal country would change overnight and treat their women like that. It doesn’t make any sense.1 star.” In the book, Offred is forced to act as a reproductive tool in the dystopian society of Gilead (formerly USA), where fertile women like her are enslaved as Handmaids, trained to be obedient and then sent to the ruling class families. Doesn’t make sense at all, right? A few hours later, my sister called me to give me some good news. She was happy, smiling ear to ear, for a future that is still very much uncertain. “They have accepted me in Midwifery school.” She said, “I’m going to be a student again.” While I can not deny the importance and the role this sacred practice plays in maintaining a healthy society, it is the only profession women in Afghanistan are allowed to take and study. My sister wanted to be a doctor. She is a smart girl, and would have made a wonderful doctor. But a woman can not be a doctor in my country, nor an engineer or a lawyer. A woman can’t even study the religion they practice. A woman’s only job is to be a reproductive machine, and to assist in the said process, her worth reduced to her ability to bear children. check & mate review ♟️💜 as someone who has never played chess or never felt any particular desire to, i was absolutely surprised by how much a loved this book!! i picked it up and read it completely in one sitting! while i don’t think it’s my new favorite ali hazelwood book, i still had such a good time with it. right away i was giggling out loud from mallory’s humor. and this might be a hot take but i personally love pop culture and real world references in books, especially the way ali hazelwood does it! this book was so witty, all the tropes were done so well, and the slow burn was BURNING. it still had a bit of that hazelwood sappy predictably but i honestly love that about her books. it made it such a fun and easy little romance to enjoy! i loved how through this book i became so interested in something that never sparked my attention before. it was so cool how much i actually learned about women in chess and how invested i was in all these fictional games. i loved loved loved nolan and how utterly obsessed he was with mallory. it was such a good use of the “he falls first trope” mixed with rivals to lovers. mallory was such a big sister girl boss but i did find myself getting a little annoyed with her, especially during the things that happened towards the end. i knocked off half a star for that, but otherwise she was a really fun character! honestly the whole book was just so sweet and i loved how angsty it was for YA, loved all the supporting characters, and of course absolutely loved mallory and nolan! if you’re an ali hazelwood fan, what’s your favorite book of hers? mine is still probably either the love hypothesis or love of the brain 4.5⭐️

When I found that out I immediately put it on my holds list. After Maxine’s husband gets his mistress pregnant and she has a breakdown in front of all their friends, he forces her out of the house and into a small condo in Scottsdale. There Maxine meets a cast of characters who will eventually become her “fake family” complete with husband, son and toddler - as she competes for the Mrs. American Pie pageant. I will say that I absolutely LOVED how Matthew responded to the 3rd act issue. How he handled the situation in the dressing room was so sweet. Lies & Truths Duet by Rina Kent 4/5⭐ 3/5🌶️ I finished reading the Royal Elite series with @eliv_bookstagram, and we decided to read this duet as our next buddy read. And let me tell you, it definitely exceeded my expectations! I usually have a bad habit of reading reviews and spoilers before starting a book, but for this one, I jumped straight in without even reading the blurbs. The only thing I know is that Asher is Aiden's friend in college. Imagine my surprise to discover that one of the tropes in this duet is amnesia, which I'm not really a fan of. But to my delight, this book was unlike any other amnesia book I have read before, and it had me hooked from the beginning to end. The fast paced plot, mystery, and suspense kept me intrigued, and I just couldn't put it down until I finished it. The dynamic between Reina and Asher was quite remarkable. Their moments of passion was a pleasure to witness I admired how they were devoted to each other. Despite his supposed hatred for Reina and his departure to London for college, Asher remained true to her and never looked at any other girl. They share a bond that they both attempted to resist, but ultimately failed and always gravitated back toward each other. I initially found the name change a bit confusing but quickly caught up with the storyline. While some scenes were intense, I felt a few of them were slightly excessive. Additionally, there was a character that I felt was not necessary for the overall plot. While I appreciate the author's efforts to add more twists and turns, the execution felt a bit rushed. The writing is beautiful, I was so invested in all the characters right from the start. You know when books switch character POV's, and you just want to go back to that one character....not this book. Every single character was so beautifully crafted. You know what I really appreciated about this book. The main characters are young, and they act young. Which is so refreshing, I hate when young characters seem to know everything and handle things without challenge. No, no.....these sisters have multiple setbacks, play around like children (when they get the chance), and do their best to protect each other. Additionally, the snippet of romance that occurs between the children is age appropriate!!! My only complaint is I do wish the terms Sorukhipa and Djnnshirukh were explained slightly quicker, as it does get mentioned a whole bunch and I did end up going back a bit to check I hadn't missed something. The world building and character development was incredible, throughout the book everyone keeps their cards close to their chest. With changing POV's allowing the reader a little insight into the political intrigue and insight into their choices. This is an eight-book series. In typical Finlay fashion, it was fast paced with short and exciting chapters and quite the puzzle to put together! It grabs you from the start when a young high school couple, Alison and Ryan are parked in their car, and one disappears and the other has no recollection of what happened. The case remains unsolved until five years later a clue emerges sparking a renewed interest in the case. There are a slew of characters, settings and interwoven storylines that unravel with one interesting reveal after another! Although a quick read, it was one I had to pay attention to so not to miss any clues! I can’t say much more in fear of giving anything away, but if you’re an Alex Finlay fan, you won’t be disappointed. And if you haven’t read him yet, this would be a great one to start with!! The audiobook is narrated by Helen Laser, John Pirhalla and Paul Dateh who did a fantastic job – never once was I confused as to which character’s voice I was listening to. Wren is an orphan of magickal parents who was not blessed with powers of her own. She is spending her 18th birthday with her best friend who does have magick and is soon headed off to an exclusive school to learn how to harness them. Suddenly she is Moonstruck and swept away to school with him. When they get there, they are immersed in the nuances of the magickal world. Quickly they learn that there is more than they are being told and that their lives may be at risk. This one definitely skews on the younger side of YA. I would say it’s a good starter fantasy as there are magickal elements but they are quite easy to comprehend. I would liken it to Harry Potter but without the goofy named spells. There are some interesting types of magick, unique magickal spirits and magickal trials they must pass. While a lot of these are common tropes in fantasy, I did find the plot to be original in many ways. I could have done without the angsty love story, I don’t think the story needed it but I get that some readers might. The ending is not complete. I wouldn’t say it’s entirely a heart wrenching cliffhanger but it does leave plenty of questions to be answered in the next book. I’m interested to see where the story goes! My Bookish Confessions: 1. I'm never going to read anything by Sarah Maas. I'm too confused about where to start and everyone has a different opinion and it all seems too overwhelming. I'm sorry if you recommended it and I acted like I would read it. I'm not going to. 🫣 2. Sometimes I listen to audiobooks at 1x speed, especially if I'm multitasking. I truly don't know how y'all listen at 2.5x speed and take in any of the info! I'd retain nothing at that speed. My sweet spot is around 1.3 depending on the narrator. 3. On pages with dialogue, sometimes I just read the dialogue. I only go back and read the details if it's obvious I missed something. 4. I have a dream to write a book someday. Lord willing, I would write a book for parents that have a sick or medically complex child. Because God is in all of it and I'd love to encourage them and point them to Jesus. 5. When I'm driving to a social situation, I often remind myself not to just talk about books the whole time. Sometimes I even make a mental list of other topics to bring up so I don't get awkward and talk about books anyways. 6. There are popular books that I know aren't for me. But I see so many people love them that I will look up spoilers so I can know what happens in them without having to read them. (I'm looking at you, Verity.) 7. I do not understand poetry. When I try to, I feel like Monica on that episode of Friends. The one where her co-worker writes a poem about her called "the empty vase." You could insult me via poetry and I'd never know. 8. I’ve never read Sense and Sensibility even though I’m holding it in this picture. 😅 Do we have any of these in common? Did I just out myself as even more nerdy than before? I saw Chanel Cleeton wrote this one on Netgalley and had to request it. I had no idea it was an old book of hers, but I consider myself lucky to get to read more from her. Maggie isn't like her crowd of friends at her college, the International School in London. She's there on a scholarship. She's not from a wealthy family, but was raised by her grandparents in a small home in South Carolina. The people who are supposed to lovers her never stick around and this has defined most of her life. Samir is her best friend Fleur's cousin and part of her group of friends. He thinks he's God's gift to women and behaves as such. At the end of her freshman year and his junior one, the two hook up, fully knowing he has a girlfriend and commitments back in Lebanon. But when they both return to school in the fall, it's not so easy to just be friends. This was very sweet and very unlike all the historical fiction I've read from Cleeton previously. I didn't look up anything so the setting and time period surprised me a bit, knowing what I've read of hers before. I enjoyed it though. • Silas Marner by George Eliot thanks to the professor who decided the readings for one of my english courses, because this book, silas marner, took me by surprise and i am so glad to have read it. a story of a weaver, in a small countryside village(s), whose life had been going good until a misfortune struck him, changing everything he believed in… silas is a character with so much depth, patience and love that you can’t help but understand him. while his life had been rather dull and boring, something happened that not only changed his outlook on life, but also him as a person! george eliot. eliot the way you write is beautiful – it is beautiful in the sense that the writing is descriptive, emotional and poetic. as a unnamed narrator takes us through the happening of lantern yard and raveloe, they tell us not only about the situations, but also about the surrounding, about the thoughts and feelings the characters were feeling in a moment. it is safe to say that i am in love with eliot’s writing style, and want to read all of her books <3 the story is engaging, it invites you in and forces you to experience everything what is happening in that countryside, in a beautiful way! the characters are amazing, there are some who get on your nerves, while some you can’t help but love… and the relationship between silas and eppie is ever so comforting… so much is happening in the story, that one might think things would get mixed up, but that never does happen. everything is knitted together in an enchanting sense! with the charming writing, an enchanting story, and an interesting character ensemble, eliot has created a masterpiece (if i can say that, that is). this classic is for sure one of my favorites… i think if someone wants to start reading classics, silas marner might be a great start! i absolutely love this book. i do have a lot more things to add, but it’ll be at the expense of spoiling the book, so i am going to refrain from ranting everything here; and recommend this book to everyone <3 – if you read it till here thank you sm <3🌻🎀!
