Rating: 4 ⭐️ Spice: 0 ⛔️ Review! Where do I even begin when it comes to reviewing this book? Mockingjay is the third and final instalment in The Hunger Games trilogy. It was a remarkable and powerful end to the series however I do have to admit that it is my least favourite. This book was action packed from start to finish. The politics behind this book were so intriguing, you couldn’t predict what would happen next! As with the two previous books, The Hunger Games and Catching Fire, there was so much more trauma packed into the book. I have said it before but will say it again! … It’s hard to believe that Katniss is only 17 during the events of this story. With the first two books, I loved them and couldn’t say anything negative about them however sadly that is not the case with this book. I had a lot of trouble with the pacing of this book. Whilst I love the story, the message behind the story, the characters and plot, I feel like parts of this book were rushed. The epilogue of this book was too short too. I wanted to see more of Katniss and Peeta happy, learn more about their children and what life was like in District 12. I also wanted a reference to if the final Hunger Games happened, and the results of what happened. Additionally I really began to dislike Gale in this book. It feels like he kept trying to push his attraction to Katniss on her which further confused her … on top of that there was his role in Prim’s death! We won’t talk about that though, I will just cry again! As with the previous two books, The Hunger Games and Catching Fire, If you love the following then you should pick up this book! 🏹 Dystopian Fiction. 🏹 Love Triangles. Tolkien wasn't involved and had nothing kind to say about the book, see below: Writing to Allen & Unwin in 1956 on the Dutch translation of The Lord of the Rings, Tolkien says: "I wish to avoid a repetition of my experience with the Swedish translation of The Hobbit. I have to say my favorite thing about this book was how realistic the story is. The emotions. This book is a journey and I loved it. Caleb has a few too many at the clubhouse and wakes up next to a club girl. Yep. Caleb cheated on his extremely pregnant wife and the mother of both of his children. This story is their journey back together. It has a beautiful HEA,a grovel showed by actions and making necessary changes to better himself and a beautiful reconciliation. Abby was phenomenal and grew as a women and mother. I just adored her. I loved when Abby finally called Caleb out on how hurt she was over the years by his actions. Best part? A celibate hero. How are we all? Sunburnt? Because I sure am! I've taken this week off to go to West Wales with the family to enjoy a much needed break, and the weather has been beautiful. So much so that my skin is not just sun kissed, it's full on spicy scenes. Enough about how my body now resembles the same colourings as a drumstick sweet, I always bring books away with me and try and get through as much of them as I can. This time I brought my newly acquired Ultimate Spider-man: Death of Spiderman omnibus. I have read the story, but I didn't get around to reading this Omni through this holiday. I have seen this popular YA novel making rounds so of course FOMO took over. Based solely on the title, I assumed the story was about terminally ill protagonists. Instead, the story is set in a (somewhat dystopian) future where there is a technology which can predict who will die soon, so after midnight people can receive a phone call informing them they will die in the next 24 hours. SPOILERS - The main protagonists are teenagers - shy Mateo and outgoing Rufus who both receive a fateful phone call and decide to seek friendship on the app designed for people like them. The reader shifts between their POVs (and occasionally some of the other characters) which surprisingly works well without the switches feeling jarring. Gathering perspectives from different characters helps to build a bigger picture and grasp the butterfly effect of the protagonists’ actions. - The notification service is optional and the users are required to opt into to system. This made me wonder if this is something I would want to partake in. As the story developed, I caught myself changing my stance and surely it is a sign of a good book when it challenges your views and makes you think? - The story is about approaching death but it is also about living. The protagonists face their fears and while doing so, they beautifully balance and shape each other into their better versions. It is a story about having a choice and the consequences, about love and friendship, about taking opportunities. - The main criticism I have seen for this book is the ending which I surprisingly enjoyed. The author does not spell it out, however, he leaves crumbs of clues for you to realise what must have happened, or for you to simply invent the ending. At times I was getting confused about what happened now and what had happened in the past but it was an easy book to pick up and read. I enjoyed the storyline and getting to know the characters. I also liked that the chapters were a manageable size.
