I really loved the first book, but Bespelled really exceeded my expectations and was even better than the first! This installment was much darker and spicier and I couldn’t get enough. Well, I finished Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing by Matthew Perry. My brain is still processing everything I just took in. I’m a massive Friends fan, it is my comfort show, but this book isn’t a Friends memoir. The book it a picture of a person experiencing the constant battle of addiction. It is harrowing, frustrating, but mostly sad. I find it depressing that Matthew was a person with money and resources available to help support him fight his addiction, which is something few have, but these monies and resources also made it easy to continue using and to keep him from truly hitting rock bottom. A double-edged sword. I think the biggest thing I took from this book was a better understanding of how lonely addiction is. It was not all fun a big parties, it was sneaking around, lying, embarrassment, and merely trying to survive. The part with survival was interesting; he used to survive and he tried to stop using to survive. While I was incredibly frustrated with most of his decisions, this was a read that gave me a new light on addiction. I can’t wait to talk to my friends and see what they took from Matthew’s story. Desi Girl Speaking is such a well written, beautiful book that hit me emotionally, I don’t think I’ve ever connected so much to a character before, the way the mental health is written and demonstrated is so accurately illustrated and sensitive at the same time is truly wonderful. ( I say this as someone who deals with anxiety and depression myself) This is a much needed book, I know from the foreword that it’s needed for the Desi community, but also for any reader, be it YA and beyond because everyone could benefit from reading this book, for some connection, understanding or learning empathy. I would like to thank the author for such a wonderful read as it is so important that we let people know (especially teenagers and young adults) that they have a voice and we are listening to you, we are here for you and that there is support out there for everyone ! This one was great, and considered a “romantic thriller”- which I had not been familiar with. But after reading this one, I get it!! After Carmen’s father passes away, she and her mother move to Hunter’s Hollow to be close to her mom’s good friend and their family. After reluctantly moving there and leaving her friends behind, Carmen ends up really enjoying Hunter’s Hollow. The boys next door, Jack and Dean are protective of her. Collide, a sports romance by @authorbalkhabra was simply fantastic. The friendships, the romance and the steam! This book is out tomorrow! The first in the Off the Ice series, Collide, features a hockey star and a sports psychology student. These opposites are paired together for research. Unbeknownst to them, they have an incredible amount of things in common including their attraction. The best part, there is NO third act break-up for this couple. Aiden and Summer are incredibly adorable, witty and simply fun. Aiden is also kind, patient and willing to prove to her that she should date hockey guys. His teammates dynamic with Summer was a welcome change to a romance novel. It truly makes for a good story, when friendships are developed on a couples relationship. Sono davvero felice che a inaugurare con me il viaggio di questo libro sia stata @claudia.durastanti, con cui negli anni abbiamo sviscerato tantissime volte gli argomenti e i temi che, tra giri infiniti e divagazioni non sempre necessariamente a fuoco e funzionali, hanno costruito questo libro. È un ringraziamento grato per tutto quello che è stato e quello che sarà! Come spesso ci capita, ci hanno dovuto cacciare dalla sala perché «Il tempo a disposizione è terminato» (come il cartello che ci hanno sventolato dal fondo della sala e che non ho fatto in tempo a fotografare), ma è solo l’inizio e spero avremo modo di parlarne e parlarci a lungo. Di cosa vuol dire indie, di cosa è andato storto, della nostra musica preferita, e di cosa parliamo quando parliamo di questa idea. Fra qualche giorno vi diciamo le prossime date del tour! Passando a notizie più liete, è di pochi giorni fa la notizia che ritorneremo nella Terra di Mezzo, quella che abbiamo amato più di ogni cosa. Pj, infatti, tornerà a dirigere un film ambientato nel mondo creato da Professore, riunendosi con un'altra vecchia conosce: Andy Serkis. Andy che tornerà a ricoprire il ruolo di Gollum nella pellicola che lo vedrà tra i protagonisti e che seguirà le vicende narrate nelle Appendici in cui Tolkien ci parla della ricerca di Gollum da parte di Aragorn e Gandalf negli anni precedenti alle vicende che porteranno Frodo e gli altri compagni verso Mordor. . La storia scelta da PJ ha grande potenziale, e anche se non rivedremo (o forse sì?) tutti i volti del passato, sono sicura che il risultato sarà grandioso. Gówna bohaterka, Jen, stara się rozwiązać tę zagadkę. Sytuacja jest o tyle skomplikowana, że Jen cofa się w czasie. Ma więc możliwość, żeby zapobiec morderstwu, które popełni jej syn. Czy skomplikowana sytuacja, w której znalazła się Jen ma szansę zakończyć się happy endem? Choć po kilku pierwszych rozdziałach byłam bardzo sceptycznie nastawiona do tej historii, to z czasem naprawdę się wciągnęłam. Fabuła mocno mnie zaskoczyła – możliwość podróżowania w czasie i zmiana biegu wydarzeń, aby uchronić dziecko od morderstwa pozytywnie wpłynęła według mnie na odbiór całości. Jen mierzy się nie tylko z morderstwem, którego dopuścił się jej syn, ale również z prawdę o swojej rodzinie, która mocno ją zaskoczy Polecam gorąco, chociaż dla mnie osobiście nie jest to rasowy thriller, a akcja bardzo powoli prowadzi nas do finału tej historii.

(Werbung) Dieses Buch hat mich sofort angesprochen, denn sowohl das großartige Cover wie auch der Titel versprechen ein abenteuerliches Lesevergnügen. Enttäuscht wurde ich nicht. Dieses Buch hat mir richtig gut gefallen und ich habe mich in dem Highland Falcon Express so richtig wohl gefühlt. Henry darf seinen Onkel Nat auf der Fahrt Großbritanniens berühmtester Dampflokomotive begleiten. Eine Fahrt von England nach Schottland und wieder zurück steht ihnen bevor, doch das Highlight selbst ist vielmehr der Zug selbst. Wenn dieser mit seinem Glasdach und Holzvertäfelungen beschrieben wird, möchte man doch glatt selbst gerne einsteigen. Eine vielversprechende Reise steht Henry und Nat auf jeden Fall bevor, als plötzlich etwas unfassbares passiert: die englische Prinzessin wird bestohlen. Plötzlich sind alle Passagiere des Express verdächtig und Henry setzt sich mit seiner neugewonnenen Freundin Lenny daran den Diebstahl aufzuklären. Dieser Krimi ist einfach herrlich und ich kann dieses Buch wirklich jedem ans Herz legen. Allein das Setting ist wunderschön und auch der rätselhafte Diebstahl wie auch die tollen Charaktere machen einfach Spaß und sorgen für beste Unterhaltung. Hinzu kommen noch die schönen Zeichnungen, die perfekt zur Habdlung des Buches passen und eine gemütliche Atmosphäre ausstrahlen. Irgendwie hatte ich beim Lesen immer das Gefühl einen "alten" Kinderbuchklassiker in den Händen zu halten. Denn auch wenn die Handlung im Hier und Jetzt spielt, so sorgt das Setting und das Rätsel um den Diebstahl für ungetrübte Krimiunterhaltung a la Agatha Christie. Nicht nur Kinder ab 10 Jahre, auch Erwachsene haben an dieser Geschichte sehr viel Freude. Ich hab es einfach geliebt und bin sehr ungerne wieder aus dem Express ausgestiegen. Ein Glück das Onkel Nat mit Henry gerne wieder verreisen möchte. Auf dieses Wiedersehen freue ich mich jetzt schon sehr. Ho appena finito “𝓣𝓱𝓮 𝓦𝓻𝓸𝓷𝓰 𝓑𝓻𝓲𝓭𝓮” e devo dire che il primo volume della serie “𝓣𝓱𝓮 𝓦𝓲𝓷𝓭𝓸𝓻𝓼” mi ha davvero emozionata. Perché è senza dubbio un romance stracolmo di pathos e di angst, forse più per il lettore… che vorrebbe urlare dall’inizio alla fine. La storia d’amore tra Raven ed Ares è passionale ma intrisa di sofferenza. Lei è da sempre innamorata di lui ma.. col tempo ha dovuto ingoiare il dolore di saperlo fidanzato con sua sorella, Hannah. Le cose si mettono male quando proprio quest’ultima decide di tirarsi indietro dal loro matrimonio combinato e di non presentarsi all’altare. Il tutto per poter proseguire la sua carriera di attrice. Così Raven viene costretta a prendere il suo posto nella vita di un ragazzo al quale non vuole comunque imporsi. Perché preferibbe essergli amica piuttosto che farlo soffrire. I due decidono di dare una possibilità al loro matrimonio, di provarci davvero a far funzionare le cose. Sarà proprio questa determinazione a rimettere tutto in asse, a far correre le cose sul binario giusto. Joel Dicker per me è sinonimo di garanzia. Quando voglio leggere un thriller ricco di colpi di scena dove niente è mai come sembra, dove i personaggi passano dall’essere intriganti all’essere irritanti per la loro veridicità, i suoi libri sono proprio l’ideale. Anche con questa sua ultima fatica è riuscito a tenermi incollata alle pagine, facendomi tenere il fiato sospeso e lanciare anche qualche imprecazione. Come sempre la prima parte del libro è quella introduttiva, quella dove la sua penna porta a pensare una cosa salvo poi, nella seconda metà del libro, stravolgere tutto e farti capire che in realtà non hai capito nulla. Pur essendo uno dei suoi libri più brevi, l’autore ha messo dentro di tutto: vecchi rancori, menzogne insuperabili, tradimenti, personaggi odiosi (solo Karine in realtà), azione, suspence, amori vecchi e nuovi, drammi familiari. Ogni capitolo è un colpo di scena, uno di quelli che ti deve far girare subito la pagina per capire dove l’autore vuole andare a parare perché niente sembra abbia un senso, solo che alla fine tutto è collegato. Fili sottili uniscono il tutto e solo quando vengono svelati il lettore riesce a notarli. Songbird of the Sorrows is the first book in Myths of the Empyrieos, an epic romantic fantasy series that follows a feisty heroine, her struggles through high stakes trials, a perilous heist, court intrigue and kingdom politics, and a journey of self-discovery, true love, and redemption. I absolutely loved Aella and all she stood for, I felt for her at so many points during this first installment. Her determination and unwillingness to backdown from whatever was happening at throughout the story, her ability to challenge others without concern for the consequences, and the start in her journey of self discovery were some of the best character developments about her as FMC. For anyone wanting to read this, the final 20% of the book gives a twist that I even didn’t expect (and I’m usually good at sussing out the twist!) The series that prompted my Psychological Thriller Era. My first introduction to Lisa Jewell and I’ve never been so happy for it. Quickly becoming one of my must read authors. The Family Upstairs without a doubt my favourite of the two. While it was cool to go back and visit with some of the old characters and get a bit of closure here and there with the sequel, I’m not sure it was completely necessary. But hell I’m not mad. I know what you’re thinking, April was forever ago. YEAH IT WAS but it was also an insane, hectic month for me - hence why I read about half the amount of books I usually do! Planning a teeny tiny wedding requires way more planning than it sounds, my work wife is divorcing me and moving to another country, and then why not add the stress of applying and interviewing for a new job in there too! (I got it, btw!!!) I feel like there are twelvety zillion books that I want to read and never enough hours in the day. 17 days till the new job, and 30 days until I’m a wife 🤪 May and June are going to be equally if not more crazzzzzy than April so bear with me and NO ONE make plans for me in July, I’m going to hibernate, thanks.
