Si Andrea Longarela publica un nuevo libro yo ya lo quiero leer, y éste no fue la excepción. Es el primer libro de la trilogía " Historias de Cathalian ", y primer libro de fantasía de la autora. Me intrigaba mucho conocer cómo se desenvolvería en este género y debo decir que su pluma sigue intacta, preciosa y bien cuidada. Esta es la historia de Ziara, una chica que vive en la Casa Verde y es una de las Novias del Nuevo Mundo. Ellas son la esperanza de los últimos hombres. Ziara es rebelde, no le gusta la vida que le han impuesto y se cuestiona todo, además de ser demasiado curiosa. Y gracias a ello le lleva a conocer " un mundo " que se lo habían antes negado. A medida que avanzas en la lectura descubres todos los seres mágicos que habitan en el Bosque, las batallas anteriores, los enemigos y también el amor. Si, porque aunque sea un libro de fantasía la autora no abandona el romance. Aquí conocerás a Redka, un personaje que se muestra al comienzo un tanto distante, tosco y duro. Sin embargo esconde un corazón noble. También conocerás a Arien, un tercer personaje, que creo que tendrá mucho que ver en la segunda parte. Así que es mejor conocerlo mejor en la próxima entrega. No puedo negar que al comienzo me costó adentrarme en la historia, hacia muchos años que no leía este género pero una vez que conecté no quería perderme un ratito de leer, me ha parecido una historia preciosa. The pain, the heartbreak, the love, the fear that is in the pages of this book is just so real. I usually don’t like dual timelines because I’m too impatient and just want to know what happens next….the way this one was done was flawless. It was truly a seamless transition between the timelines and I found myself wanting to know what was happening in each part. And sweet, sweet Leo…his pain is so real, but he’s also one of the sweetest MMC’s I’ve read. How he tells Darby not to hide her smiles from him. He supports her, brings out the best in her. How he has them sample every flavor of ice cream because she isn’t allowed to eat it at home. Ugh I teared up. He’s so romantic in all the best ways. ♥️ And our sweet FMC Darby. I just loved her so much. She was so strong and sweet and I loved watching her blossom. She truly learns how to live that summer with Heathen. I loved watching them grow together and watching them come back to each other so many years later and truly find happiness for once in their life. Their love story was so hard and difficult, but man it was one of strength and so much beauty. If you loved Say You Swear and The Summer We Fell…then you will LOVE this book. It’s so good you guys. Consider Me - @beckamack.author Ahhh I’m in love with Carter - I’m definitely a mood reader and I was in my sports romance zone so I absolutely ate this up. Carter was so goofy and a nervous talker yet at the same time so self assured and has a big heart. He’s like a giant muscly, teddy bear, cinnamon bun rolled into a hockey god 🏒 Olivia was so sweet, and feisty, she really put Carter in his place which had me cackling every time. This book held so much in it, and I feel in love with the characters and their relationships. One second I was teary eyed, the next laughing and then squealing. 👓 Another Booksta-Made-Me-Read-It Here’s another one I recently picked up. Last month, I couldn’t open booksta without seeing #AnnaO by Matthew Blake (@matthewblakewriter) in it. Did you succumb to the hype too? ❓ What’s a book you keep seeing on booksta right now? Maybe you’ll make me read it soon 😂 I picked up the audiobook 🎧 which had a full cast production, narrated by Dan Stevens (@thatdanstevens), Christine Rendel (@christinerendelvoice), Hannah Curtis (@hannahcurtisnarrates), and Sarah Cullum (@sarahcullum_) 💌 Booksleeve is from @devoured_pages_booksleeves - use INDOORGIRL10 to save! 📚 My Review: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4/5) Yes, I did jump into the hype and pick this up, and I didn’t regret it! Anna Ogilvy hadn’t opened her eyes for four years, since the night she was found in a deep sleep by the bodies of her best friends, where she was suspected of a chilling double murder. Doctor Benedict Prince, a forensic psychologist, considered it a career-defining challenge to wake Anna up. As he began Anna’s treatment, he pulled on a thread of a much deeper, darker mystery. This was undoubtedly a slower-moving psychological thriller, told from multiple PoVs in multiple timelines. So, if you were expecting a fast-paced pop-corn thriller, you might be disappointed. The audiobook version I listened to was performed by its multi-narrators beautifully, with Benedict’s voice going exactly the way I’d imagined it. The story itself was as much about Anna’s journey into being an investigative journalist as the mystery of the murders and her ‘sleeping beauty’ fame. I really enjoyed the way the mystery layers were unpeeled slowly through Anna’s past voice and Benedict’s present. Not gonna lie, I actually managed to guess the ending halfway through. However, it was still a great journey to get to the reveal at the end. Jewell book but definitely will pick up one more. It's a bit dark, a bit Gothic in my opinion, and at first it seems like a pretty linear story, I think I know where it's going but .... It turns out I didn't and towards the end surprises and twists make up for the slow moving at mid point in the book. I did guess some of the plot pretty early but I was pleasantly surprised I did not anticipate some of the twists. 📖Reading Update📖 Hello, fellow inklings! What fantasy subgenres do you like to read? My favorite fantasy subgenres are probably Romantasy, High Fantasy, and Fairytale Retellings. This past weekend, I finished Two Twisted Crowns, the final book in The Shepherd King Duology, which fits into the High Fantasy and Romantasy subgenres. I will say that the duology wasn’t earth-shattering for me because I could often see where things were going, but I did ultimately enjoy this one. This second book was even more enjoyable because the author opened up the storyline to multiple POVs that enhanced the storytelling (I was longing for it in the first book and was so happy that we got it in the second). I also loved the use of flashbacks in this one. I won’t say any more though, so I don’t spoil it with it being the second book! 𝙍𝙚𝙫𝙞𝙚𝙬: This felt a little like a nostalgic throwback to early 2000s rom-coms (which are always the perfect comfort movies), especially with the pacing and movie magic/coincidences! Initially, Noah wasn’t my favorite, but he grew on me and developed a more patient and understanding nature as you got to know him. Lucy, on the other hand, is steadfast and determined, shaped by her past and by her parents relationship. I struggled a bit to understand Lucy’s choices, but she is someone trying to navigate what her head AND her heart are saying… and can’t we all say we’ve been there before. While I enjoyed the story, I couldn’t help but feel that we needed to know more about Noah and Lucy’s lives and relationship because a lot felt glossed over and I was left wanting more. The length of the story kind of limited how detailed we could go into their pasts relationship and the development of their current relationship. I think this kind of made it difficult to really connect with the characters at first. If you’re in the mood for a quick romance with a nostalgic vibe that really encompasses early 2000s rom-coms, this book is perfect. 📚 Book Review 📚 ✨ Under the Dome by Stephen King ✨ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 🔎 On a day just like any other the occupants of Chester Mill, a small town in Maine, are going about their lives when out of no where the town is cut off from the outside world by an invisible barrier that encompasses the whole town. No one can get in, and no one can get out. The town is in turmoil, with the inhabitants fearing for the future. The threat of running out of food, water and power sparks panic. There are some people in the town that use the chaos to their advantage, capitalizing on the fear to seize power and push their own agenda. How long can the town survive under the dome? Can the outside world find a way to break the barrier before it’s too late? 🔎 I loved this one. I was a bit apprehensive going in as it’s a massive book but there was so much going on throughout the book that it didn’t feel as big as what it was. I loved the relationships between the characters, particularly the tensions that built. There were some very intense scenes and some characters that I absolutely hated because they were just horrible people. This is a character driven thriller with a touch of sci fi and some aspects of horror. It was such an interesting concept to examine what might happen if a whole town was cut off from the rest of the world, with them being able to pick and choose what laws they follow and that politics of the town. There was lots of manipulation and shady characters in this, but also some great protagonists, who were trying to be rational even in the face of persecution. When Jessie finds herself in a pickle and needs a fake boyfriend, she goes to the only person she didn’t want to go, her best friend’s brother, Drew. Reluctantly, Drew agreed to the arrangement, but on the day Jessie needed him most, he failed her and she was determined to get her revenge on him. Things got more difficult when Jessie’s house needed major renovations and she found herself homeless at 8 months pregnant. HIs sister thought this was the perfect thing as Drew had an empty bedroom and needed a date to an upcoming event. Both being under the same roof was going to be just okay or even worse, give Jessie the ultimate ground for the sweet revenge she craves. Since I had just finished The Off Limits Rule, I went and ahead and snagged the second book in the series. I think I have read too many romances in a row as this one missed the mark for me. It was still enjoyable, but I was not a fan of the back and forth between Jessica and Drew. Jessica wasn’t as enjoyable of a character that she could have been and that just took a bit away. I’ve enjoyed the more recent books by this author, so I’ll certainly still be putting her newest one on my TBR. The representation of a disabled main character is huge for middle grade fiction, and it was my favorite part of the book. “Falling’s the part that takes your breath away. It’s the part when you can’t believe the person standing in front of you both exists and happened to wander into your path. It’s supposed to make you feel lucky to be alive, exactly when and where you are.” I finished reading Beach Read by Emily Henry over the weekend and I actually loved it! Emily Henry’s books have been kind of hit or miss for me but this one was definitely a hit! This story featured January Andrews, who is struggling with her view on life after losing her father and is facing some pretty severe writers block. She’s spending the summer in a beach house and finds out that her neighbor is Augustus Everett, another author who she has a little bit of history with and is also experiencing writers block. One night they make a deal, Augustus will write something with a happily ever after and January will write something that isn’t a rom com. I really enjoyed the banter between Gus and January, even if I did find it a bit odd at times. I really resonated with the way that January describes her love of romance novels and I think many people would agree that they read as a way to escape the stresses of life. Something I also liked about this story is it showcases how your parents are just people and they too are flawed and make mistakes. I definitely recommend picking this one up!
