Honestly not sorry my page is just a David Sodergren fan account? 🩸I just finished ROTTEN TOMMY 🩸 Following our main character Becky and viewing the strange/horrifying happenings surrounding her is absolutely gruesome and entertaining to say the least. I f*ucking loved how Sodergren made our MC autistic and proud. Especially being a woman diagnosed later in life (such as I, which is rad.) This book although kept me in tune with the story most of the time did have its moments of.. wait, what’s happening? Which I haven’t felt while reading one of his novels before.. NONETHELESS, Tommy’s description was so f*cking scary and the kill scenes were badass AS USUAL. (If my moods and my laziness don’t get in the way, that is.) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ As #api heritage month is still going strong, we have four books by Asian authors or authors with an Asian heritage (admittedly mostly Japanese…): • Ling Hun by Ai Jiang. • Cannibals by Shinya Tanaka. • 怪、刺す (Stitches) by Hirokatsu Kihara & Junji Ito. • 禍 (Calamity) by Masakuni Oda. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ (I’ve been also slacking on reading in Japanese during the last months, which is why I feel that I should get to at least one of the latter two soon.) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The remaining two books are special ones: Ghost Roots by ‘Pemi Aguda is my first book by a Nigerian author, and I’m really excited about these short stories (also, look at this cover!!1). @evernightbooks smashed it out of the park with this edition! I love the haunting look of the UK edition but Evernight’s edition really captured the 90’s nostalgia from the book. Murder Road by @simonestjames is absolutely phenomenal! It comfortably can fit into the horror or thriller genre. I love the creepiness of the entire plot and the urban legend. April and Eddie are main characters I cared about and rooted for. 📚📚 Kind of a book review 😂📚📚 . . I am conflicted on what I think about this book, so it's gonna be just my thoughts laid out(also the cover was too pretty to let this one be XD) I LOVED the plotline going into this and had been too eager to start reading this. I mean, a kids show which a lot of them remember watching but there's no proof that it actually existed??!! I'm totally IN at the point alone!! Loved that there were reddit post threads here and there some of which were quite funny too. Even though the multiple rhyming poems mentioned here and there were creepy, I found it amusing and nice. Everything was probably good until the 2nd half or the 2/3rd of the book after which it got weird and confusing. I found it hard to imagine what was happening and then it just ended. After thinking about it multiple times, I feel it was probably an apt ending butttt I still feel that I went in with a huge expectation and after the ending, I just didn't feel satisfied and felt that there were few questions which were left unanswered. This has a lot of mixed reviews, so you might probably like it or not, so do check it out. Mini reviews: fictional reality tv edition 📺 CHAIN-GANG ALL-STARS (2023) — A reality show where prisoners can fight to the death for their freedom. This book was as important, thought-provoking, and sadly plausible as everyone said it would be. Excellent commentary on racism and the prison industrial complex. As I was reading this book, I couldn’t help but think of all the reality tv shows about prisons that already exist. By the way, I loved the ending. I’m a huge fan of an ambiguous ending. Ask me about the Mad Men finale. PATRICIA WANTS TO CUDDLE (2022) 👹 — An outrageous, wild, and satirical look at The Bachelor franchise. Basically, The Bachelor but make it queer and add cults and monsters. So fun and extremely unique lol.

Talk about broken relationships and toxic upbringing. Anna was raised by her mom and dad, but mainly, she learned everything she knew from her dad. A skilled and agile hunter, he is slso a very dangerous man. Surpassing her childhood trauma, Anna becomes a decorated sheriff, trying to have a normal life. All that changes when she kills a man in the line of duty. Her buried memories of the past will come rushing through her, and we, as the reader, will experience every heartbreaking moment. 🌿 April wrap up 🌿 I had a terrible reading month in April 😅 I didn’t love any of the books I read and I didn’t end up reading very much. Especially near the end of the month, I ended up picking up a lot of things but never really finishing them. I think I have 4 books that I’m currently reading rn. I have two four-star reads, Delicate Condition and I Will Fond You. Those were good enough, but again, not like a new favourite or something I’ll love. The worst of the month was Penance, I was looking so forward to this book and it just let me down in every possible way. I actually kind of blame Penance for my aggressive reading slump I’ve been in since reading it. I want to read over 100 books this year, which means I want to read 8 books every month, which I was behind on in April and will probably be behind on this month based on how it’s going. Book 15: The movie is definitely better. A big old slab of Stephen King that's got about 200 more pages than it needs. Somehow I'd never read this before but totally love the film. Some brilliant sentences throughout as you'd expect, great set pieces and fully fleshed out characters this is King indulging. Although the book is self-aware of this, the characters were too one-dimensional and cliched for my liking. I would have wished for more depth and nuance. Hoyt, the quintessential bad boy abuser, and Melissa, the naive girlfriend seeking to redeem him, dance a dangerous tango of toxic affection. Despite Melissa's annoying behavior I enjoyed her fierce determination to protect her son, Patrick, which added emotional depth to the narrative. The story presents a conflicted yet compelling portrayal of maternal love. The plot is straightforward, but I would have liked a little more mystery, particularly at the beginning. Nevertheless, the story is very exciting and really pulled me in. I love aquatic horror and "Cruel Summer" truly excels is in its evocation of water horror themes. 💗 80s Ghosts by VS Lawrence 💙 @vslawrence.writer A book about ghosts...from the 80s.. Do I want to read it? DUH! Not only was this book written about ghosts from my favorite era, the present tense is 2009 so we get the nostalgia from then, too. I am so happy this author mentioned Aqua Net because honestly, would it even be about the 80s if they didn’t? As a lover of shows like Ghost Hunters & Ghost Adventures when they first came out, I absolutely loved the premise of this book. High school was hell for me so the fact the main setting for this story happened to be in one was even more fitting. There were scenes throughout that genuinely creeped me out and others than were gut wrenching. I connected with the main character, Chrissy, and her defense mechanisms around certain situations. The fact I totally ignored work and flew through this one should let you know you need to read this! This is an update from yesterday's post about Diavola. While the ending was satisfying enough, I wanted Anna and the ghost of Monteperso to take up the queerest of relationships and to show that even an Renaissance evil can be more caring than a toxic family. Regardless, the novel showcases how the confrontation with our worse selves via family members and the quasi-other of the ghost can be cathartic. @jennmariethorne made the Case family so hateable without making them unrealistic. Can you believe It's been almost a week since our last post and so much has happened in 7 days. We had a nice little break this weekend and traveled to Nottingham for a little sightseeing and then onto Sheffield for @horrorconuk I know what your thinking and don't worry, we have a Horrorcon post coming up next, but this post is a little nod to one of the best book clubs #richardlaymonbookclub After reading my first Laymon back in 2022 and then budding up on a couple of reads later that year with @constantreader89 I've been hooked. The book club is currently reading Laymon's Beast House series which is a first for me, and like all his stories, it's been a wild ride so far. 5🤩 Reboot is about the IT department. We all know their most common - turn it off, then back on again. What if, that simple advice turns out to be more harmful than helpful, in the long run? I thought everything about this book was amazing. The mental and emotional rollercoaster it took me on was a wild ride. The characters were developed well and the transition between the PIV of each character was smooth. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a cosmic horror story. Ive only read a few cosmic horror, as im not really interested in this subgenre, but i am so glad I gave this one a go. Or If you are just looking for a good read with a wild ride, this is for you. ✨ PUB DAY REVIEW ✨ THE HOUSE THAT HORROR BUILT by Christina Henry @authorchristinahenry is out today from #Berkley @berkleypub ( #BerkleyPartner)! Swipe right to read the synopsis. ➡️ I had an easy enough time getting into the book and that helps a lot when you’re in a reading slump. And then around the halfway point I couldn’t put it down because the characters were so good! And the story was not what I was expecting but also it kind of was. I can’t say more because I’m afraid to spoil anything. I loved how fast Harry, the main character, accepted supernatural occurrences and not only that but OTHERS did as well bc I didn’t want to read 300+ pages of a woman trying to convince the men in her life to believe her. There were a couple jump scares and I loved them. Def gave me the creeps once or twice. The book took place during the pandemic years so some things in the storyline made more sense like Harry’s money problems, trouble finding a new apartment, etc. you could sense the world growing smaller around her. Terrible things kept happening where she felt she had no choice in certain circumstances where different decisions would have given her a different life. Whether or not she made the wrong decisions is something older and more experienced readers will probably differ on. I liked the subtle comparisons between Harry as a mother and Lena. As well as their sons and how they turned out. Lots of commentary on gender, privilege, class status, etc. it just sucks the ending was kind of lacking for me. Overall I really enjoyed the book though! It was the first book that helped distract me for a bit with all the horrible things going on in the world in Palestine and Congo. Wszystko, co związane z uniwersum Obcego, przyciąga mnie do siebie jak magnes. Dlatego każdą wydaną w Polsce książkę, w której wystąpi ta budząca grozę kreatura, prawdopodobnie kupię i przeczytam. Zatem na wstępie zaznaczam, że poniższa recenzja powstała z perspektywy fanki, która cieszy się na każde spotkanie z Obcym. Akcja książki „Obcy: Wyjście z cienia” rozpoczyna się na stacji kosmicznej „Marion”, która zajmuje się pozyskiwaniem trymonitu, czyli najtwardszego minerału odkrytego przez człowieka. Górnicy pracujący w kopalni na planecie LV-178, gdzie znajdują się jego złoża, natrafiają na coś niepokojącego i tak niebezpiecznego, że natychmiast podejmują próbę ewakuacji. Gdy ich transportowiec zbliża się do „Marion”, na jego pokładzie rozpętuje się chaos i dochodzi do katastrofalnego w skutkach zderzenia. Historia ukazana została z perspektywy Chrisa Hoopera, głównego inżyniera „Marion”, który próbuje uratować swoją załogę. W pewnym momencie dostajemy także drugi punkt widzenia, gdy wprowadzona zostaje postać Ellen Ripley znanej z oryginalnego scenariusza. Z jednej strony umiejscowienie Ripley w fabule zostało bardo dobrze przemyślane, ale z drugiej strony, użycie tej postaci wpłynęło negatywnie na moją ocenę całości. O wiele lepiej czytałoby mi się o zupełnie nowej grupie bohaterów. A pojawia się nawet jeszcze jedna znana postać, której imienia zdradzać nie będę. Na szczęście i tak bawiłam się wyśmienicie, ponieważ akcja od pierwszych stron gnała do przodu, działo się wiele, było krwawo i niepokojąco. Z pewnością będą fani, których ta książka nie zadowoli, ponieważ uznają, że nie ma w niej nic odkrywczego. Ja jestem zadowolona, bo poczułam ten wyjątkowy, duszny klimat, którego oczekiwałam.
