Les Cartes du Mal (2024) par Anna Halberg et Spenser Cohen. 🎬🍿🎞️ Ma note : 2,5/5 L’astrologie tue ! Jouons carte sur table tout de suite, Les Cartes du Mal est un vrai film d’horreur. Il possède de vrais moments d’angoisse. C’est efficace dans la façon d’amener le jumpscar. L’humour ne prend jamais le pas sur la menace horrifique et c’est un point positif à noter. Le gros problème du film ? C’est que le scénario est bancal à mort. C’est clairement ce qui empêche le long-métrage d’être un bon film d’horreur. Puis ce qui est certain c’est que le film ne propose rien de neuf. Ça reprend les codes classiques de l’horreur (on a encore le droit à la réplique « qui est là ? » ou la scène de l’escalier qui mène au grenier). Les personnages sont trop clichés et manquent de développement pour qu’on puisse vraiment s’inquiéter pour eux. Pour les puristes du cinéma d’horreur, Olwen Fouéré a exactement le même rôle que dans le remake/suite Netflix de Massacre à la Tronçonneuse c’est flagrant. Enfin le final s’effondre comme un vrai château de cartes en effet on assiste à un finish rushé et sans idées. La résolution est trop facile. Oui d’après moi, les enjeux présentés au fil du film méritaient une meilleure conclusion. We’re getting flooded w/ religious based #horror, but try to squeeze in #Resurrected because it’s got a neat little plot to it. Unfortunately, I’m not a big fan of the structure of how that story is told. It’s all done via screens, like in #Searching. So every actor is talking to the screen at us. Stan #DaveDavis is coming home w/ his young son, after the latter’s had a soccer game. The boy’s not in his car seat. Stan has had a beer. They FaceTime mom Audrey #KarliHall to tell of the victory. Thru the course of that conversation, Stan gets distracted & there’s an accident. Young Nicholas dies. Stan is hospitalized. Audrey blames everything on him, shutting him out. Now, for some reason, the Church reaches out to Audrey. They’ve perfected resurrection & want to use Nicholas as a test subject, which she jumps at. It works! At this point, Cardinal Degal #BradGreenquist shares what they can do w/ the world. Loved ones can return from the grave, BUT they have to be Christians. Not that religion? Better be willing to convert! Stan becomes a priest following the miracle, delivering sermons to a VR flock. He then counsels other people who have returned, like a therapist. But he finds himself in hot water when 1 of his patients returns to construction work & starts pushing co-workers off the high rise beams. The Church opens an investigation, run by Ortiz #KristenAriza, into the deaths, meaning Stan has to take a sabbatical for the duration. Suddenly, he gets the idea that he might be being set up to take the fall. He teams up w/ his handler, who also is a hacker, Rat #ErikaChase. Together, they discover this is not the 1st time a resurrected has gone on a killing spree. Indeed, it’s becoming a growing phenomenon. So, while they’re being hunted by Ortiz, they have to figure out what’s going on. On a personal level, Stan wants to get to Nicholas before the now young man does something similar. Mal wieder mit ein bisschen Filter- und Grafik-Gedöns rumgespielt, zum Abschalten nach einer langen Arbeitsnacht. Denn die letzten Wochen waren voll mit dem üblichen Gedöns: Bücher lesen, Infos zusammensuchen, alte Pressehefte durchackern, Interviews führen, etc. Also, was gibt es unter anderem demnächst? Cooles Zeug in Form von 50er-Jahre Noir, einem Italo-Western Double-Feature, 70er-Jahre Racheklassikern, Spät-80er Independent-Style Öko-Horror sowie eine Blutsauger-Horrorkomödie, plus obendrauf einen grotesken 90er-Monsterstreifen und 2000s 3D-Slasher-Kult, die leider nie ne Fortsetzung bekommen hat. (Dafür gibt es dann auch zusätzlich etliche Infos rund um die nicht realisierte Story). Ein massives, mit etlichen Regie-Interviews gewürztes Buchprojekt zu einer gesamten Filmreihe - das im Laufe der Arbeit zunehmend aufwändiger und komplexer wurde - ist ebenfalls fast fertig. Noch ein paar Feinheiten, etwas Abstand lassen und dann noch mal durchlesen. Danach sollte der Schmöker auch endlich fertig sein. Oof. Später kommt noch mehr Cartoon-Actionkult, obendrauf Seagal, Lundgren und so einiges mehr. Jau, die nächsten Monate sind definitiv schon ziemlich gut verplant. Keine Ahnung, wann ein Großteil von den Arbeiten erscheinen wird, aber ich nehme mal so grob an ab der zweiten Hälfte 2024 bis Anfang 2025. Oder so. Tarot 2024 - Review Tarot has drawn the Death card and sealed its fate. Tarot is a supernatural horror about some college kids who find an old and creepy (and very cool) set of Tarot cards. Manifestations of the cards haunt the group as their horoscope readings start to come true in the gravest of ways. I really lean into the supernatural horror and witchy tropes. The trailers showed the potential of a really creepy story and tense atmosphere. That all made me excited to see Tarot. The movie starts strong. I really enjoyed the vibe it was creating. Its an interesting way to tell a story, by each character having their fortune read, meaning the audience knows from the start how each character will die and then seeing how the interpretation materialises. I liked the backstory of the cursed cards and how that was presented. Visually, the movie delivers. The cards themselves look fantastic. I would love a set of this deck to own. The creatures are well designed with their individual looks and natural movements. They are used well throughout the story, and they give some decent scares. Bloody Disgusting has an interesting article on the creature design that you can check out. Tarot, unfortunately is not playing with a full deck. It has worked hard to establish the foundation, backstory, ambiance and creatures effectively but fails to execute it. The characters are just fodder for the kills. Without an emotional connection, there are no stakes and we’re just waiting to see how their fate plays out. The script is terrible as everything is spoon fed to the audience and delivered in a very wooden, unnatural way by the actors. The end is sloppy, convenient, and unsatisfying, opening up plot holes and dealing the final Death card to any quality work that came before it. 2 / 5 – There’s no need to rush and see this in cinemas or spend extra money on it.
