[9/10] Dear lord, there is so much to unpack from this absolute gem. I'll start by saying I literally have not enjoyed a monster film this much since Pacific Rim. Godzilla Minus One is nothing short of a triumph in its genre. Not only is it executed so well, but the story behind making the film makes it all the more praiseworthy. With a budget of just 15M$, Godzilla Minus One delivers a jaw-dropping cinematic experience, with immensely large-scale action sequences, stunning cinematography, and a highly impactful score. You can constantly feel the passion behind the work of director Takashi Yamazaki alongside every other member who contributed towards making this film possible. What really sets this film apart from others in its genre, is the direction in storytelling. Whenever you go to see a monster-based blockbuster, it delivers action, but never truly tells a story worth remembering. This film changes everything and finally puts humanity before the monster, delivering an incredibly moving story filled with rich characters of whom you are constantly rooting for. They do a phenomenal job at representing the destructive state of post-WWII Japan, while tackling the themes of honour, fulfillment, purpose, and redemption. This iteration of Godzilla truly is horrifying, perfectly serving as the destructive symbol of nuclear power of which he was created to be. The film carries so much emotional weight, but also perfectly blends it with intense action sequences that are a feast for the eyes with its incredible VFX (Oscar-winner for a damn good reason). Godzilla's very first blast of his atomic breath literally had my jaw to the floor, honestly making it one of the most bone-chilling cinematic experiences I've ever had. The only nitpick I can find is that the pacing slightly dragged on in the first half of the film, but nothing major. I hold so much respect for the craftsmanship of this film, and I really am happy it's getting the attention it deserves. We need more blockbusters like this now more than ever. A Godzilla film making me tear up in the final act? Yeah, that just happened. Easily one of THE best films of 2023. To the entire cast and crew, thank you...

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes stars (in mo cap performances) Owen Teague as Noa, Kevin Durand as Proximus Ceaser and Peter Macon as Raka. With Freya Allan and William H. Macy playing the Human Leads. According to some sources this is set 300 years after the final film in the original Trilogy. However in the film it just says ‘several generations’ the ambiguity of which is much more pleasing. Three hundred years seemed far too long when you watch the full film. The apes are now in different clans and our antagonist is Noa the son of the leader of the Eagle clan. He is left for dead as his home is destroyed and most of his family are taken prisoner. We follow Noa’s journey as he tries to find them. Along the way he meets a more intelligent human Nova (Freya Allan) who the hunting party that captured his family were looking for.  Firstly the special effects are exceptional, Avatar level only more hairy and less blue. It took me a while to distinguish between the apes of Eagle clan, but once Noa was on his journey this became less of an issue. Noa befriends Raka who teaches the word of Caesar, from the original Trilogy. I found it interesting how time had altered his words but left his message intact. For me Durand gives the best motion capture performance as Proximus Ceaser the leader of the Kingdom mentioned in the title. He is full of expression and maniacal. This film relies less on human leads and more on the Apes, so it needed the energy Durand brings to the film. I don't think this reaches the heights that the original reboot trilogy reached, Dawn in particular. However, it introduces the new mythology and new characters well and overall is a very enjoyable film. Rating: 3/5⭐ #kingdonoftheplanetoftheapes #owenteague #freyaallan

“Go see @apesmovies it’s incredible. Fifteen minutes in, I turned to my wife and said, ‘This movie is fantastic.’ It transitions from a character-driven drama to an emotional thriller with some great action. Besides asking myself 25 times, ‘How did they do this?’, you’re reminded that you’re never a second ahead of any characters. @freyaallan is great, and Wes Ball’s direction is also brilliant. I will see this again!!!” . . . #moviecritic #moviereview #movie #filmcritic #moviereviews #film #filmreview #movielover #moviebuff #movienight #filmreviews #movieaddict #filmbuff #movietime #moviereviewer #movieclips #movierecommendation #cinephilecommunity #critic #moviegeek #reviews #filming #filmmaker #filmmaking #filmmakers #indiefilmmaker #filmmakersofinstagram #moviemaking

The Planet of the Apes Franchise Ranked 🎞️ Despite my controversial ranking, I want to mention that I’ve given essentially the same rating to all of the films. So, even though ‘Dawn’ is last, I don’t dislike it more than the others. I also have yet to see the originals, so they’ve been excluded from this ranking. ‘Dawn’ - I’m aware this is most people’s favorite out of the franchise, and while I agree that it’s the best directed, I have to admit it has been my least favorite thus far. The gritty and dark tone was heavily needed to up the ante; however, the human characters and subplots are unbearably uninteresting. The only aspect that kept me invested was the drama between Caesar and Koba; other than that, I was slightly bored. — 7.5/10 ‘Rise’ - In terms of filmmaking, this is definitely the weakest film by far. The narrative, visuals, and acting feel relatively generic at times, especially after seeing Matt Reeves’s influence in his films. But the film does consist of enough epic moments that keep it from being anything less than good. Plus, the human characters are actually interesting and kept me engaged. — 7/10 ‘Kingdom’ - I do think this film isn’t as well directed or written as Reeve’s films, but I greatly admire and appreciate how the characters were treated here; they’ve made them actually *feel* like people. Our protagonist is part of this clan that has traditions and customs; therefore, I felt significantly more immersed in the world. The only flaws keeping me from enjoying it more were the repetitive conflict, unnecessarily slow pacing, and partially uninteresting human subplots. However, the ending does have me wildly intrigued to see where the storyline goes. — 7.5/10 ‘War’ - Although I liked all the films fairly the same, I definitely enjoyed this one the most. The pacing was somewhat too slow, and I was still let down by my expectations. However, the interactions between the characters, the incredibly photo-realistic CGI, the surprisingly sincere and humane moments, and the most intriguing antagonist in the franchise made this film the most enjoyable to me. — 7.5/10 What’s your ranking of the ‘Planet of the Apes’ franchise?

Marquee Monday! Here is a look at what is coming this week to theaters. IF - After discovering she can see everyone's imaginary friends, a girl embarks on a magical adventure to reconnect forgotten IFs with their kids. The Strangers: Chapter 1 - After their car breaks down in an eerie small town, a young couple is forced to spend the night in a remote cabin. Panic ensues as they are terrorized by three masked strangers who strike with no mercy and seemingly no motive. Back to Black - Singer Amy Winehouse's tumultuous relationship with Blake Fielder-Civil inspires her to write and record the groundbreaking album "Back to Black." A decent week of movies coming out, I am interested in IF the most. The Strangers, I don't love the previous films, but they were interesting enough to see the new one this weekend. Back in Black, I know Amy Winehouse and have heard her music before she passed, so I would be interested in learning some about her life. Rating: 5.5/10 David Leitch‘s The Fall Guy is fairly entertaining with a self aware premise that gives homage to stunt work and filmmaking as a whole. The film follows movie stuntman Colt Seavers (Ryan Gosling) who decides to come out of retirement to work on a movie with his crush as the director (Emily Blunt). However, when the star disappears Seavers is sent to find him. The film works as a great satire and love letter to stunt work with crazy action sequences - including ones outside of the movie making sequences. The absurd action fits the fun tone. The great visuals and editing also gives homage to stunt work with beautiful stunts caught with impressive and complicated camera rigging. Gosling and Blunt are solid with great comedic timing. But despite giving believable performances that match the zany tone of the film, they do lack chemistry. They are also working with what is quite bland characterization in the writing. The film is funny but loses the humor as it try’s to incorporate too many different genres - action, comedy, and a very flat romance. It works on the level of a love letter to cinema but feels chaotic beyond that. The film’s ending is highly predictable which does make it drag even more towards the end. The Fall Guy has a funny first half with great stunts and visuals, but ultimately feels like it is doing too much in some aspects and not enough in others. #thefallguy #movie #review #film #critic #moviereviewer #ryangosling #emilyblunt #intheaters #2024movies #filmcritic

This is the best looking Gotham City in the Tim Burton - Joel Schumacher Batman era for sure. Directed By Joel Schumacher "Batman Forever" is the first of two films that Joel Schumacher directed, continuing from the two Burton films. Burton also produced this movie, so that means it's still a Burton Batman Film. Surprisingly Michael Keaton was recast with Val Kilmer, I may say that Kilmer is a very underrated Batman and Bruce Wayne. He depicts him with a more sense of humor than his predecessor, certainly has more goofy one-liners. Unfortunately Tommy Lee Jones played Two-Face similarly like The Joker, so that's a bit on the downside of this film. Although Jim Carrey puts his own spin on The Riddler character, that means he's just himself. "Robin" was a nice touch near the end, but a that's a grown ass man bro. He can already ride a motorcycle. Nicole Kidman's character was mildly disappointing, she was just there as a blonde love interest to Batman. Nothing more, Nothing less. (Still hot) As I see it, the plot was too stretched out and the first act was respectfully mid Anyways, good film, great lines, splendid camera work. 85% recommend • • • #cinema #cinemalover #cinemalovers #cinematography #cinephile #cinephiles #cinephilecommunity #filmdirector #filmcommunity #filmreview #filmreviews #moviereview #moviereviews #moviereviewer #moviecritic #movielover #batmanforever #joelschumacher #valkilmer #nicolekidman #tommyleejones #jimcarrey #batman #robin #brucewayne #1995 Thanks @appleboxd for the suggestion.

Abigail comes from the directors of Ready or Not and stars Melissa Barrera and Alisha Weir alongside a large talented ensemble following a crew hired to hold a young girl hostage for ransom when they realize she is not who they think she is. I had been looking forward to seeing this movie and I’m glad that I finally got the chance to check it out as this was an absolute blast! Weir gives a fantastic performance as Abigail requiring her to balance a sarcastic and menacing character on top of a sweet and innocent persona. I also enjoyed Barrera in this film! She does a good job and I think this may be her best or second best performance that I’ve seen her give. I look forward to seeing what other films she works on as she tends to pick good scripts to be apart of. This film has some solid moments of well timed humor throughout and the pacing is well done as the films leads to a wild third act with plenty of action on its journey to that finale. The action and gore is entertaining with plenty of tense moments and the tone of the film is surprisingly consistent as it bounces between a violent horror atmosphere to funny and witty. This feels like the fun vampire movie we have been waiting for as there haven’t been too many lately that are this effective. I also want to give credit to Kevin Durand as he is a lot of fun in this movie and gives a great performance with a lot of charisma. The film itself is fairly predictable as you can guess who may live or die and the way the plot unfolds is somewhat formulaic but it never feels like it’s trying to be anything different but just wants to emphasize the unique aspects of the story and have fun with it. I would definitely recommend giving this film a watch if you like vampire movies as it is a fun time and well worth the time. 4/5 STARS #movie #filmfanatic #weekendmovie #movies #film #filmcritic #moviereviewer #filmreview #review #blog #2024movies #movieblog #movienerd #filmblog #cinema #movieland #filmreviews

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire brings us back the new crew to team up with the old crew as they take on an ancient demon who wants to freeze and conquer the earth. I enjoyed this movie, although, it does have some disappointing elements that held it back from being great. For starters, I feel like the concept and the whole premise of the film that was teased in trailers doesn’t unfold until the final 30 minutes of this near two hour runtime which makes the majority of the runtime feel like it is dragging on. I think it would have been cool to see a more survivalist approach where the ghostbusters are without their equipment for most of the movie and going around a frozen NYC to try to find a way to beat this ghost, etc. Unfortunately, the approach taken doesn’t implement that until the very end of the movie. Nonetheless, it is still entertaining. McKenna Grace’s character, Phoebe, gets the most attention here as she plays a critical role to the plot while the rest of the family seems to take a back seat and their development is maybe only slightly glanced upon as their purpose is to advance the story along and chase ghosts while Phoebe deals with some more emotional aspects. Paul Rudd’s Gary gets some attention as well but outside of this, the family dynamic is not as strong here as it was in the previous film. The ghosts are fun, the humor is witty and well timed, the action adventure elements are entertaining, and everyone has good chemistry working together again, so at the very minimum - this is a fun sequel for fans of the franchise even if it may not deliver on all fronts. It is well directed and the movie looks good visually. I think there could have been more development on the demon itself and some effort could have been put into making the stakes feel world-ending as it never felt that way thus adding to the drag in pacing as you never feel as invested as you should. In any case, as I mentioned, it is still a fun time and worth seeing if you like these films! 3/5 STARS #movie #filmfanatic #weekendmovie #movies #film #filmcritic #moviereviewer #filmreview #review #blog #2024movies #movieblog #movienerd #filmblog #cinema #movieland #filmreviews

Immaculate stars Sydney Sweeney in this horror film following a newly devout nun that joins a remote convent in Italy when she begins realizing this convent has sinister secrets.  I had heard mostly good things about this film so I was intrigued to give it a watch. Right off the bat, Sweeney gives an excellent and layered performance as she carries the weight of the film on her shoulders as the central character that you cling to and root for as she goes through much distress and confusion with her faith tested by a group of people pretending to believe in God but are really just trying to play God.  This film was super tense with a lot of unnerving scenes and gory/graphic situations, and they do a good job of putting you in the shoes of the central character and encapsulating that feeling of being trapped. I was completely invested the whole way through. Some scenes, however, felt so graphic that I don’t know if I could give this film a second watch. In any case, it has a great build up to a very eventful conclusion that left me shocked by the final frame. In some ways the film feels both complete and incomplete as it ended in a way that I didn’t anticipate, though it was one to leave you thinking and speechless. I can see the ending being super polarizing but I personally was okay with the ending and I think the shock factor worked in this case. I just wonder if there could have been an additional ten minutes added onto the ending to see where else the story would have gone and how she may or may not make it to safety, etc.  All in all, this film doesn’t break the mold of its genre but it is effectively disturbing and led by a powerhouse Sydney Sweeney performance with an engaging directorial approach that knows how to keep audience attention and on edge. 3.5/5 STARS    #movie #filmfanatic #weekendmovie #movies #film #filmcritic #moviereviewer #filmreview #review #blog #2024movies #movieblog #movienerd #filmblog #cinema #movieland #filmreviews

Gorgo : Horror-Sci-fi-Monster Movie Mini Review: Mother's Day Special I love Gorgo, especially when he flaps his little fishy ears. I've seen this movie a bunch of times. It's one of the few Mother's Day horror movies that's a creature feature instead of a slasher. There's some fantastic cinematography in the third act. The shots of the sky are downright apocalyptic. For a movie that rips off both Godzilla and King Kong it has enough of its own personality to stand out amongst countless monster movies. Maybe not trying to profit off nature really is the best course of action? Just saying. . . . #gorgo #minireview #horror #scifi #monstermovie #monstermovies #moviereview #moviereviews #moviereviewer #mothersday #horrormoviereviews #horrormoviereview #horrormovierecommendations #godzilla #kingkong #kaiju #kaijumonster

I love how they depict Caesar's funeral, a nice callback to remind us that this is a continuation of the last trilogy. I don't know how long "many generations later" is, but it's definitely far into the future. It's been a while since we've seen these apes on cinema again, and I am not disappointed at all. The opening scene is breathtaking and introduces us to the new protagonist, Noa. I think he has a great character arc throughout the film. I just love him generally because he is so honest with other apes and even humans. The human characters in this film are also great; the portrayal of humans as a dying species that once ruled the planet was very cool, and we will definitely get more of this. The legacy of Caesar was questioned throughout the entire film, whether he was right or wrong for showing mercy to humankind and what his words meant. The antagonist of this film, Proximus, twists Caesar's words so that he can lead his kingdom to break into the vault that was built by humans as a shelter and learn all the knowledge the humans once possessed. It's a great premise for a villain who's trying to conquer everything. Mae, the human protagonist, was one of the few people who could still speak normally. In this film, humans become the lower species where they can't talk, and only a couple of people maintain the ability to speak. The film tells us that humans will do anything to take everything for themselves and leave nothing for the apes, basically saying we are too greedy, which is honestly true. We're taking too many things and leaving nothing for the other species that roam this planet, and I think this film does a great job of reminding us of that. I highly recommend this film. It's very enjoyable and calming to me. I rarely come across these types of films, and I'm glad they didn't mess up this franchise. Anyway, yeah, that's it, I think. Cya.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (2024) Many years after the reign of Caesar, a young ape goes on a journey that will lead him to question everything he's been taught about the past and make choices that will define a future for apes and humans alike. MY RATING + REVIEW 9.5/10 I'd probably put this as my favorite movie of 2024 thus far. Visually it's stunning, top notch visuals. The story is great and the pacing is just right. The story is deeper than just Apes vs Humans, this takes place generations after Caeser, where Apes follow what Caeser preached, well not all of them, an Ape named Proximus who is a cult-like leader thinks he's the new Caeser. I think he's a great villain. This movie is action packed and hell of a fun time, a very great entry into the franshise that obviously sets up for more sequels! #KingdomOfThePlanetOfTheApes #PlanetOfTheApes #MovieReview #MovieReviews #MovieReviewer #FilmReview #FilmReviews #FilmReviewer #Review #Reviews #Reviewer #Movie #Movies #MovieBuff #MovieLover #Film #Films #FilmBuff #FilmLover #Cinema #CinemaReview #CinemaReviews #CinemaReviewer #Movie #Movies #MovieBuff #MovieLover #Film #Films #FilmBuff #FilmLover

Dual stars Karen Gillan, in dual roles, alongside Aaron Paul and it is directed by Riley Stearns. It's a Sci-Fi comedy with a very unique sense of humour. Karen Gillan plays Sarah, a borderline alcoholic who has a rough relationship with her mother and is distant from her boyfriend Peter. She is diagnosed with an unnamed terminal illness and is told she will certainly die. With 98% chance of death and 2% margin of error. The discussion about 98% meaning certain, with the 2% error is the kind of humour this film goes for. Given this news she decides to have a clone made to take her place when she does die to ease the suffering of her mother and boyfriend. When her disease goes into remission her double has taken over her life to such an extent that Sarah and her double must duel for the right to be Sarah. There are lots of parts to this film which continually throw you off kilter. The syntax which all the characters speak is odd it is direct with no subtext. They all say what they mean at all times. The film is based in America, but the road signs and car designs are all European. They obviously have advanced technology in order for the cloning process to work but they still use overhead projectors. All this combined with the odd sense of humour make it an intriguing watch. Karen Gillan is very good in the dual roles of Sarah and Sarah's double. She masters the particular way the characters speak perfectly. Her training montages with Aaron Paul showcase the odd humour and when Sarah's double has to deal with aging and her own mortality she portrays it well. I really enjoyed this film although I can't put my finger on why. It is short at 90 minutes so it is relatively fast paced and once you work out it's a comedy it is, in its own way very funny. I feel my enjoyment won't be universal though and I am certain some people will really detest it. Rating: 3.5/5⭐ #dual #karengillan #rileystearns

Setting this film 200 years in the future was a brilliant idea for multiple reasons. For one, it’s far enough removed from the previous trilogy that it doesn’t risk destroying the reputation of the original story. But more importantly, it lends itself to exploring a lot of really interesting ideas about the nature of legacy and how the philosophy of religious icons can become twisted in order to serve the agenda of hostile forces. Through the character of Proximus, this film beautifully illustrates how even the best of ideologies can and will eventually be captured by those who seek to practice evil and exert control. I also really loved the new protagonist of the series, Noa. The film does a fantastic job of instantly making the audience care for his journey and root for his mission. He is, in every sense of the word, an underdog who is in way over his head and left with no choice but to battle forces far beyond the scope of his own power. In addition to powerful character writing, there’s also just a lot of really strong care and intention that went into crafting this film. The cinematography is gorgeous, the CGI is magnificent, the direction is precise, and the overall world is rich with mythology and depth. In a cinematic landscape polluted by bloated careless blockbusters, this felt like a much needed breath of fresh air. However, where the film lost me was with the human character of May. I’m not sure what the thought process was behind her story, but at a certain point her journey became the thesis of the film. Not only was her story far less interesting than Noa’s, but it didn’t even feel like it belonged in the movie at all. It detracted from the intrigue of the apes and pivoted the narrative in a direction that it should not have explored. Overall, this was a beautiful film that lost me in the 3rd act. Had May not been such a prominent character, this easily would’ve been one of the best films of 2024. The merits of the first two acts are still valid and absolutely worth watching, but I really wish the movie had been more wise in how it chose to conclude its plot. But nonetheless, this is still a really good film with a lot to offer its audience.

THE MINISTRY OF UNGENTLEMANLY WARFARE Directed by: Guy Ritchie Score: 8 First time watch Guy Ritchie has been on a tear the last few years, with 6 new movies in the last 5 years. One could argue this productivity has led in a decrease in quality, but if I check my ranking of his filmography, all of them are ranked in the top 10. But despite that, it’s not hard to argue he released 2 weaker movies, but also a new classic, a top notch Disney live action remake, and this new isn’t too bad either. Based on a real story, you will recognize some familiar names, this movie still has all the trademarks you would expect from a Ritchie flick. Fast dialogues, great action set-pieces, and an all star cast, led by Henry Cavill. And since Ritchie likes to work with the same group of actors, I do hope we see Alan Ritchson back in another movie soon. He should be a great addition to future projects! The story is based a group of soldiers who were tasked with operations deemed too sensitive to be handled by the regular defense personnel, and thus creating the first black-ops team. Something that is still in use to this day. And while some of the plot points are a bit predictable, it’s worth mentioning that this story is literally the foundation on which modern spie movies are built on. If you like Ritchie’s work, you should have a blast with this! If you like historically correct movies, maybe turn of your brain a bit, since there are some liberties the movie takes. Nonetheless this a fun movie, so give it a chance! #theministryofungentlemanlywarfare #guyritchie #henrycavill #alanritchson #henrygolding #caryelwes #eizagonzález #babsolusanmokun #ianfleming #sas #movie #movies #moviereview #moviereviews #moviereviewer #moviereviewers #movierecommendation #movietime #movieaddict #movielover #pma

Windfall was far better than I expected, but also far worse than it could have been. It's a very interesting film with plenty of subject matter about a tech billionaire home invasion gone wrong. What mainly stands out in this film are the performances. It's a small cast and single-location film and all of the three main characters do an amazing job. Plemmons is one of my favourite actors to watch these days, and Seagal has always been underrated. Lily Collins too brings plenty of depth to her character. The subject matter of Windfall is to put it simply, very obvious. Too obvious even for my taste. Motivations are delivered in such a direct way of dialogue that there really isn't much subtext. It feels as if the writers didn't trust the audience enough to get the allusions to greed, corporate power, fame and capitalism that instead of subtly incorporating them they spell out each and every one of them. Despite the not-so-great writing, the director does a very good job of keeping tension and alluding to certain things, as well as foreshadowing. The twist at the end, however, without spoiling anything, didn't work for me at all. I found it flat-out anticlimactic and frankly meaningless. In the scope of all the subject matter, it could have ended a lot better. Though I understand the meaning behind it, I believe there were better choices. All in all, Windfall is not a bad movie and actually would be something I would recommend. It's interesting and mostly carries depth, even though that depth isn't perfectly executed. • #windfall #netflix #jesseplemons #lilycollins #jasonsegel #film #films #movie #movies #cinema #cinephile #cinephiles #cinephilecommunity #filmdirector #filmcommunity #filmreview #filmreviews #moviereview #moviereviews #movierecommendation #moviereviewer #moviecritic #indiefilm #indiefilms #indiefilmmaking #indiefilmmaker #filmmaking #filmmaker #netflixmovies #netflixmovie

First of all, yes, the film "Música" has music (duh), and I do believe it's great. The choreography for each scene is perfectly on beat with the music, making it feel so perfect and satisfying to watch and hear. It's also a romance film where the guy loves two girls but can't pick one, so both girls leave him. Then, he makes a puppet show and becomes famous. Overall, it's a nice, simple story. What I do hate about this film is the story itself. I hate the way the main character doesn't pick one girl; it feels irritating and annoying to watch. When they all break up, I feel happy and relieved. Maybe the film intended it to be like that, but I just can't stop talking to the screen when the guy is being indecisive. But yeah, I highly recommend this film. It's very similar to "La La Land" in my opinion, although "La La Land" is definitely better. But yeah, that's it. Title: The Fall Guy Director: David Leitch After leaving the business one year earlier, battle-scarred stuntman Colt Seavers springs back into action when the star of a big studio movie suddenly disappears. As the mystery surrounding the missing actor deepens, Colt soon finds himself ensnared in a sinister plot that pushes him to the edge of a fall more dangerous than any stunt. Now that I’m back in the UK, we are starting off this solo cinema weekend with a movie I haven’t seen- The Fall Guy. I believe I read somewhere that the movie is a flop (or it might have been another one… at this point I’m not sure) but I really enjoyed myself. There was loads of funny moments and it was an easy to watch movie overall. I’ve never doubted that Emily Blunt and Ryan Gosling will star in a bad film so I partly went to see it because of them. The plot isn’t anything too exciting and was lacking at times. The ending felt a bit too much, but stunts were pretty cool and funny to see. I don’t think it’s a 4⭐️ worthy but a 3.5/5⭐️ would definitely be a thing for me. . . . . #cinema #cinemalover #cinemalovers #cinematography #cinephile #filmdirector #filmcommunity #filmreview #filmreviews #moviereview #moviereviews #moviereviewer #movielover #movielovers #movierecommendation #filmlife #letterboxd #filmlog #filmedit #thefallguy #emilyblunt #ryangosling #aarontaylorjohnson

IF was written and directed by John Krasinski and stars Cailey Fleming, Ryan Reynolds, John Krasinski, Fiona Shaw, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Louis Gossett Jr., and Steve Carell. A young girl who goes through a difficult experience begins to see everyone's imaginary friends who have been left behind as their real-life friends have grown up. Well, we have a new kids film from the director of A Quiet Place and stars Deadpool himself. Now in case you didn't know, I put this in my ten most anticipated films of 2024, so I was really excited for IF. And now, I've watched IF and... Be aware when you go into this film, it's not your usual kids film. Yes, it is a kids film, but it's a film that also caters to adults like me. IF is much more than a film about imaginary friends, it has a deeper meaning to it, and I love it for that. In the leading role, we have Cailey Fleming as Bea. Her family is having a bit of a hard time, and it explains it in the first 10 minutes. I think this is her first film, and she was incredible as Bea. She starts seeing the other IFs, the same talent that her neighbour Calvin has. Calvin is played by Ryan Reynolds, and let me be the first to say that it's so weird seeing him in a live action kids film. As you all know, he's one of my favorite actors and whenever he's on screen, he makes me laugh. And in IF, he also makes me feel. That's right, he gives you the feels in this one. Ryan Reynolds has his humour but all PG this time. Or in the UK by the @bbfc_ageratings, U. He was so good. Playing one of the animated imaginary friends, we have Steve Carell playing a purple fluffy Grimace like character called Blue. I do love Steve Carell as an actor. He's funny in whatever he's in. Whether it be Get Smart, Bruce Almighty, The Office or even IF. I loved how charming and funny he was as Blue, and I've seen a video on YouTube where him and John Krasinski have an Office reunion. Like a reunion between Jim and Michael Scott. Go and look it up on YT, it's so damn nice. (cont. in comments)

"Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes," is the latest installment in the long-running sci-fi franchise. The film excels in special effects that bring the ape society to life and definitely delivers on the action front. The battle sequences and chase scenes, showcasing the physical prowess of the apes are really amazing. Director, Wes Ball, known for his work on the Maze Runner series, brings his experience with action sequences to the table. You might feel that the plot is similar to the previous Planet of the Apes films but overall it is really a visually impressive film with thrilling action sequences. If you're a fan of the franchise and enjoy high-octane sci-fi, you'll likely find entertainment here. However, if you're looking for a fresh story with deep themes, you might be left wanting more. . . . . . . #cinemalovers #cinema #cinematography #cinemalover #cinephile #cinephiles #cinephilecommunity #filmreviews #filmreview #filmcommunity #filmdirector #moviereview #moviereviews #moviereviewer #indiefilm #indiefilms #movielover #movielovers🎬 #movierecommendation #filmlife #kingdomoftheplanetoftheapes #kingdomoftheplanetoftheapes2024 #letterboxd #wesball #freyaallan #kevindurand #dichenlachman #williamhmacy #proximuscaesar #2024movies

As someone who’s only recently developed an interest in the ‘Planet of the Apes’ films (and still has yet to see the originals), I never had high expectations for the newest film in the franchise, only intrigue — and perhaps that was for the best. Firstly, I’m obliged to commend the highly executed technical filmmaking that supports this film; the visuals (though not as photo-realistic as ‘War’ and feel like a high-res video game at times) are stunning on the big screen. The immense amount of detail dedicated to the ape’s faces alone is quite a feat, yet the ability to thoroughly understand their emotions just from their facial expressions cannot be understated. There are countless opinions surrounding CGI and its recently poor nature, but when utilized correctly, it can produce results that otherwise wouldn’t be possible, as seen here. Additionally, the concepts presented in these films fascinate me, especially since humans were at fault for their demise. In ‘Kingdom’ specifically, I loved seeing how the apes have evolved and the cultural customs they’ve developed after many generations; I LOVE world-building such as this, and it’s the primary reason I was interested in this film. However, — though it wasn’t entirely a surprise and parallels how I feel about the three films before it — I didn’t enjoy ‘Kingdom’ as much as I wanted to, and I feel disappointed that none of the films have fully captivated me yet despite the lengths that were taken to immerse us. As I said, highly intelligent apes replacing the human race’s role on Earth greatly intrigues me, but I feel none of these films have gone as far as they could’ve. I respect the notion of keeping a narrative slow to allow the progression to feel more earned and significant, but I became bored and just ready to see the apes actually do something new and consequential rather than fighting the humans and themselves for the third time. While I was slightly dissatisfied, ‘Kingdom’ is a fantastic blockbuster that’s enjoyable and well-executed. Although, from what I’ve heard, I think I’d enjoy the originals more. Nevertheless, I’m still looking forward to future stories told in this world!

'Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes' doesn't offer anything that we haven't seen from the previous movies before, but it is an enjoyable experience on its own and deserves to be seen if you are a fan of the franchise.

MOVIE REVIEW: We rarely go to the movies, but made an exception for ‘Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,’ and overall, I’m glad we did. Well into the future, after a deadly virus has made apes dominant and humans feral, a chimp named Noa is living peacefully with his clan who specialize in falconry. When his village is attacked and his clan kidnapped, Noa goes after them. Along the way, he meets a woman who, unlike most humans, is intelligent and can speak. Noa and Mae are eventually captured by the raiders who burned his village and taken to an ape settlement. There, they find Noa’s clan and meet an ape king, Proximus Caesar, who is trying desperately to breach a human-built vault. Mae tells Noa she knows how to get into the vault and in exchange for his help, will help him and his clan get home. Inside, Mae retrieves the technology she’s been looking for but she and Noa are attacked by Proximus and his soldiers. Do they survive? Does Noa make it home, and what is the tech Mae has been looking for? You’ll have to see the movie to find out. I loved this latest chapter in the ‘Planet of the Apes’ saga. Although at two and a half hours, it does run long. My husband felt there needed to be more one-on-one battles, but I was happy with the action. You need to be okay with CGI in order to like this film because it does center almost exclusively on the apes, and is very much in the vein of ‘Avatar.’ But if you like sci-fi, action and adventure, I think you’ll enjoy it tremendously. I know I did. #moviereview #moviereviewer #moviereviews #whattowatch #whattowatchnext #movies #moviestowatch #planetoftheapes #KingdomOfThePlanetOfTheApes #scifi #scifimovies #belairviv #actionmovies #adventuremovies

Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005) (Rewatch) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - The final instalment of Lucas’ prequel trilogy. Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith takes place three years into the Clone Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) pursues a new threat, while Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) is lured by Chancellor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) into a sinister plot to rule the galaxy. For many that grew up with the prequels, this is the top of the Star Wars pile and it undeniably is a huge improvement over both its predecessors in every single aspect. A truly grandiose, space opera with huge melodramatic, emotional heavy lifting on display and a substantial step up in the visual effects department. For me though there are still a few problems on display that hold it back from being a truly excellent trilogy topper. This is the same length as Attack of the Clones and is paced and structured far, far better. The cohesion of the plot escalation, raised stakes and the origins and seeds sewn for the sequel trilogy are impressively managed. There are a number of standout, iconic and memeable moments here: “Execute Order 66” (quote aside, it’s a great montage), “Hello there.”, “Dew it.”, “UNLIMITED POWER!”, “It’s over Anakin, I have the high ground.”… its all good stuff. I do personally still think there are elements of Anakin’s switch to the darkside that feel rushed and not wholly convincing. Lucas’ dialogue for Annie has improved here somewhat and the layer of darkness that shrouds this entry is palpable (or… palpatineable, sorry), but I still think his bloodthirsty and almost instantaneous betrayal is lacking at points.  - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Continued in comments

A fun watch but could of been so much more. Even though there was some ok acting and solid effects, I did not connect to the story. It is made up mostly of flashbacks at a very slow pace, it felt improvised and just shoved together last minute. It was a watchable mess. "Incendies" is a haunting and powerful film that leaves an indelible mark on its viewers. Directed by Denis Villeneuve, this gripping drama is based on Wajdi Mouawad's play of the same name and tells the story of twins Jeanne and Simon Marwan as they unravel the secrets of their mother Nawal's tumultuous past. Set against the backdrop of a war-torn Middle Eastern country (though it is deliberately left unnamed), the film masterfully weaves together the personal and political, the past and present, creating a narrative that is as emotionally resonant as it is intellectually stimulating. Through a series of interwoven flashbacks, we are gradually drawn into Nawal's tragic journey, from her tumultuous youth to her search for her children in the midst of civil strife. The performances in "Incendies" are nothing short of extraordinary. Lubna Azabal's portrayal of Nawal is deeply affecting, capturing the character's resilience and vulnerability with nuance and depth. Meanwhile, Mélissa Désormeaux-Poulin and Maxim Gaudette deliver equally compelling performances as Jeanne and Simon, respectively, as they confront the painful truths of their family history. What sets "Incendies" apart is its exploration of themes such as love, loss, and the cyclical nature of violence. As the twins journey deeper into their mother's past, they are forced to confront the legacy of trauma that has shaped their lives and the lives of those around them. Villeneuve's direction is masterful, creating a sense of unease and tension that pervades every frame of the film. The cinematography of "Incendies" is also worthy of praise, with Roger Deakins capturing the stark beauty of the film's landscapes and the intimacy of its character moments with equal skill. The score, composed by Grégoire Hetzel, enhances the emotional impact of the story, underscoring its moments of triumph and tragedy with haunting melodies and evocative instrumentation. #comedy #moviereviewer #moviecollection #filmmaking #cinephilecommunity #movielovers #filmbuff #filmcommunity #horrormovie #moviestar #reviewfilm #s #movieclips #action #actor #instamovies #moviegeek #bluray #follow #moviepodcast #bluraycollection

Despite the numerous strengths that are represented in this movie, the main power here is the fact the story is open to such a wide audience. Whether you are a devoted fan of the franchise, a newcomer or simply cannot remember much of the previous iterations, do not fear, this film caters for all. In the fourth instalment of the franchise, time has moved forward many generations since the death of Caesar (300 years) and gives new fans the necessary context to avoid confusion early on while providing current ones with an emotional tinge. The holdback here from achieving more is the simplistic plot, not to say it’s bad, it’s a Lion King-esque storyline where you have a good set to root for and ones to root against while on a self-awakening journey with a smidge of revenge. Despite this it doesn’t take away from the fact that it’s an enthralling spectacle to be taken on, supported by a powerful score and ridiculously good world-building aesthetics. The film spends its final moments setting up future instalments and while such a thing is a nuisance to critics, in this instance I was quite intrigued with what is to come and in particular the path that Mae (Freya Allan) will take in asserting her place in the franchise after a solid start. Overall, the new direction of travel with Wes Ball has begun and while it may play a bit safe it’s still an entertaining watch with little to complain about and more to be in complimentary awe of instead. Catering for both devotes and newbies, this would be well worth your time in seeing. #kingdomoftheplanetoftheapes #planetoftheapes #mattreeves #wesball #trilogy #batman #freyaallan #moviereview #moviereviews #movierecommendation #moviereviewer #filmsuggestion #moviesuggestions #cinema #cinemalover #cinemalovers #scifi #cinephile #filmcommunity #moviecommunity #critic #filmcritic #adventure #action #director #cinematography #andyserkis

Matt Bettinelli Olpin and Tyler Gillett are really good horror directors. I've loved all their previous movies and I liked this one as well. Abigail isn't as good as Ready or Not or the new Scream sequels, but it is a fun horror flick. It's well-made and it has fun scares and gory kills. The location stands out too. Just like Ready or Not, Abigail features a gorgeous house that is used very well throughout the movie. Another highlight is the cast. #alishaweir is excellent as Abigail. She did a wonderful job in Netflix's Matilda and she steals the show here. Her line delivery is excellent while the makeup and practical effects on her are really well executed. The ballerina aspect is really cool and creates a unique look for her character. #melissabarrera and #danstevens do a great job while #kathrynnewton and #kevindurand also make an impression. The movie does stumble in some places. The pacing is good, but the first half is a bit slow. We already know what's happening, but the characters don't, and waiting for them to catch up can be boring. Another problem is that the comedy isn't always great. Sometimes it feels like it's trying a bit too hard and that undermines the horror and the tension. Ultimately, Abigail isn't as strong as I wanted it to be, but I still had a good time. It's a good horror movie that offers both bloody thrills and laughs. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #moviereview #moviereviews #moviereviewer #filmreviews #filmreviewer #filmreview #reviews #review #reaction #cinema #cinephile #abigail #horr #horrorfilms #horrorlover #horroraddict #horrorobsessed #horror #scary #scarymovies #scream #readyornot #entertainment #ballerina #vampires
