Hunger Five strangers wake up trapped in a dim, dry well, with no memory of how they got there, and all find the breaking points of their humanity as they struggle to survive. Starring - Lori Heuring, Linden Ashby, Joe Egender, Lea Kohl, Julian Rojas, Bjorn Johnson. I've said it before, i love horror/thriller movies where the evil you are up against is less bad guys, and more environmental. Basically you against the elements and working to survive them. I definitely think this is a horror very few, if any people will have seen. I think all horror fans have those really obscure films they've seen where it seems no-one else has heard of. In this movie, we see these few strangers wake up in this dimly lit room, they are at the bottom of a well and there is no way up. They see barrels full of water for them to drink, but no food. The only other feature is a clock on the wall that counts the days. What you then get to see over this film is the psychological impact of basically starvation, what it does to the person, the dynamic of the other people and he effects it has body wise too. There is of course a reason behind this psychological torment which you will understand when you watch the film. The craziest thing for me, is this was the first horror film where i can say i could 100% relate to the characters. As a few years ago i did a 9 day water fast and know exactly what it feels like going without food and mentally what it does too. So that made the film extremely memorable for me. Standouts wise, while they all do a good job showcasing what hunger does to a person, the main character of the movie - Jordan, played by Lori Heuring did an excellent job showcasing the physical and mental toll hunger takes on a person. Bottom line, if you are a fan of psychological horrors/thrillers, i can't recommend this highly enough, the premise alone will interest people but the additional plot in the film saw it become one of my favourite hidden gems!. Because of it's obscure nature, the only way to watch it is on DVD. But i fully recommend watching it!. What did you think of the Movie?
The Double Deuce is in a bit of a bad state. The bar is overrun by troublemakers, drug pushers, and even the staff are skimming from the till. It’s the kind of place you go if you’re looking to have your teeth rearranged. Patrick Swayze is brought in as the bouncer to bring order to the lawless bar, with nothing but his degree in philosophy... and his blackbelt in karate. Road House is the kind of classic that you don’t get anymore. Weird original screenplays don’t get financed because they’re too risky. If it’s not an established IP or a sequel or a remake, chances are it will never see the light of day. there’s even the added irony that Amazon have even gone and remade it to try and recapture its magic. Allegedly based on an actual case in Missouri where the local ‘bad guy’ was murdered in broad daylight and nobody said a word, Road House is an action film that doesn’t take itself too seriously and is largely carried by the charm of Swayze as Dalton. He’s so laid back he’s practically horizontal until the need arises to roundhouse somebody. He’s the definition of charisma with the hair to back it up as well. It gets even better when Sam Elliott turns up to chew up every scene he’s in with his refined gravel voice. Ben Gazzara is the villain who is so bad it borders the cartoony, and yet he plays it with enough seriousness to make him come off as almost plausible. The film saunters on without taking itself too seriously, and the dialogue is bad enough to be taken from one of George Lucas’ early drafts of Star Wars. The brawls are everything you’d expect and its ending is as daft as Dalton’s backstory. It's always hard to find technical flaws -or flaws at all for that matter- in Wes Anderson movies. Wes is a perfectionist and cares about visuals more than anything. An approach that hardly changes for Isle of Dogs. I will not even mention the technicals, they are all flawless. The problem there is, as is with most Wes Anderson movies, that they boost up the score incredibly. Thus be aware that the high ratings I en uo giving his movies don't always reflect the quality of the story or script. The Isle of Dogs is heartwarming in a way, while it is also heartbreaking. However that aspect of it is barely emphasized and the viewer is not meant to see the unfolding narrative as a bottom-to-the-top story, but as the defeating of a tyrant to regain something deserved. A story arc perfected by Akira Kurosawa, from whom I think the writers have taken inspiration. The main characters of the film arc amazingly, and each tells a valuable story to the viewer, while the supporting characters don't really arc at all and are more plot devices. Anderson’s blunt dialogues and straightforward writing are for many unpoetic, however, especially in this film I find the silences and directness more meaningful than in any other of his films. The writing, also in part to the stellar performances of an ensemble cast, hits home and is meant to resonate with people on a deeper level, which I think it does rather well. The script isn't an amazing piece of cinema but it does what it tries to achieve to the fullest. Isle of Dogs is just a great film. A film I’d recommend to almost everyone. Meaningful, beautiful, funny and endearing. I went into this one totally blind, it’s my favorite if it’s something I’ve never heard of. Don’t Look Back (2020) was this week’s movie for movie night in the horror group I’m in; we all push play together and chat about the movie while we watch. A group of bystanders does nothing while a man is beaten to death in the park. One by one the spectators start to die; is it a coincidence, their own guilt or an act of revenge. Well that was bad. It was a decent premise and I had some hope it would be a knockoff of The Crow but somehow it managed to be something horrible and boring. The acting was bad and over dramatic, the pacing was bad, the twist was mediocre and the ending was cheesy and bad. I’m glad I watched it with my weekly movie group; if it wasn’t for the hilarious chat going this would have been a total waste of time. Let me present to you the movie Sukkubus - den Teufel im Leib from 1989. This movie is full of folkmagic, and some of you who work with traditional witchcraft might recognise some of the magic in this film. Two herders and a boy goes to the Black Mountain in the Alps, a place inhabited by strange forces, with their cattle, and even though they take their precautions and protect themselves with prayers to God and folkmagical spells, then one night while drunk the two herders make a doll that suddenly comes to life as a succubus. The demon causes absolute hell for the men and the boy, and only one survives to tell the tale and get help. Back in 2010 when I’d watched this little film called Peepli Live, I felt a space getting created in my heart for a genre I had rarely seen before- Comedy satire set in the Indian heartland. 14 years later the same production brought this lovely warm hug wrapped in a movie and I already see myself reaching for it in the future as a comfort watch. Laapata ladies is not the voice of feminism. It’s not a social message. It just is. It is allowed to be just a very engaging story of a bizarre incident and how the characters cope with it. Ofcourse, the premise of it, and the way things unfold is rooted firmly in how any small village in the north may function. Every woman represents a different product of societal conditioning, or rather different ways of survival and coping amidst this conditioning. No one’s wants or desires is deemed lesser than the others, which i like, specially in a world bent on dictating exactly that. It is realistic, but mixed with just enough magic to keep your hopes afloat. The humour is not slapstick. It relies on simplicity and earnest conversations which I can totally picture happening in real life. The cast just fits in like a puzzle. Ravi Kishan as corrupt cop and Chhaya Kadam as kind ‘Tai’ are character roles you can see working from a mile. But Sparsh Shrivastava as Deepak impressed me the most. He didn’t have a character role, nor a definitive purpose in the film. Yet he made me warm up to him so naturally it’s incredible. Pratibha Ranta lends her bright eyes to the curiosity of Jaya and Nitanshi Goel lends her innocence to Phool and they both did a fantastic job in bringing the characters to life. It’s one of those films which you wish would carry on in its own little world even after you’ve finished watching it. You hope they’re all doing well (well, most of them), living and thriving as they want. And you hope some of that magic of hope rubs off on you as well. Đúng là phim mà, cái moé gì cũng có thể xảy ra được mà nhỉ? 😂 Một cái nữa là phim về nấu ăn nên chống chỉ định xem khi đói nha mọi ngừi. Ôi cứ frame nào có cảnh đồ ăn là bụng tui lại sôi sùng sục, nước míng tràn bờ đê. The Shootist (1976) Blu-ray Disc Review Shootist was Released on March 12, 2024, by Arrow Video. The Shootist comes with one disc, and this classic film doesn’t disappoint on the video side. Arrow did a new 2k transfer from the original 35mm negative. What you get here is a beautiful image presented in 1080P. You get some soft blur in scenes, but overall, they did a fantastic job on the video. You get the original lossless mono audio 1.0 track when it comes to audio. The audio was very present and clear. I was disappointed we didn’t get a Dolby digital 5.1 track. But it doesn’t matter cause the mono audio 1.0 delivers. I highly recommend The Shootist from Arrow Video. If you are a Western fan or a John Wayne fan. The story in this film is terrific, and this is John Wayne’s final film, so he gives it his all. 영화 <히어애프터>는 클린트 이스트우드 감독의 2011년도 개봉 작품으로 전 작품에서 함께한 맷 데이먼이 주연으로 한 작품입니다. 내용은 죽음 이후 가게 되는 사후세계를 볼 수 있는 능력자를 통해 세상을 바라보게 하는 판타지 요소가 포함되어 있으며 자칫 잘못하면 굉장히 어려운 질문과 철학을 각본에 충실하여 보다 쉽게 내용을 전달해 준 클린트 이스트우드의 연출력이 빛났던 작품이기도 합니다. 1. 죽음의 경계선까지 갔다가 기적적으로 살아나 능력을 갖게 된 마리 &2. 원래 능력을 가지고 있던 조지&3. 능력은 없지만 죽은 형이 있는 곳을 보고 싶은 마커스. 이렇게 세 명의 주인공 시점으로 흘러가는 내용 흐름을 1-2-3,1-2-3 순서로 차례차례 보여주며 전개되기 때문에 인물들에게 더욱 집중할 수 있는 연출을 사용하였고 마지막 세 명의 주인공이 모두 모이는 장면을 통해 작품이 전해주고 싶은 메시지까지 완벽하게 전달했다는 점이 인상 깊게 다가왔습니다. 특히 중간중간 사후세계가 비칠 때 흘러나오는 효과음과 3명의 주인공들이 삶에 대한 가치를 깨닫게 되는 부분에서 등장하는 OST까지 음악에도 굉장히 신경을 많이 썼기 때문에 작품은 굉장한 몰입도를 자랑합니다. 네이버 평점 7.83&IMDB 평점 6.5점으로 국내/외 모두 높은 평점은 아니지만 개인적인 감상으로 미루어 보았을 때 어려울 수 있는 내용을 깔끔한 전개로 보다 쉽게 전달해 주었던 클린트 이스트우드의 연출력이 보다 높은 점수를 줄 수 있는 요소로 작용할 것 같습니다. 3명의 주인공들을 통해 어떠한 메시지를 전달해 주고 있을까라는 생각이 많이 들게 했던 작품이었습니다. 저는 후천적으로 능력을 갖게 된 마리&능력을 원래 갖고 있던 조지를 통해서 사후세계 즉 죽음과 소통하는 것이 그렇게 좋지만은 않다는 것을 느꼈던 것 같습니다. 결국 특별한 능력으로 평범한 삶을 살아갈 수 없었던 두 주인공을 통해 세상을 바라본다면 현재의 삶이란 저기 저편에 있는 우울하고 어두운 면과는 전혀 다른 보다 밝고 화창한 면이 존재하는 곳이라는 것을 깨닫게 해주었던 것 같습니다. 마지막 사후세계만을 보던 두 주인공이 현실에서 만나 서로가 사랑에 빠질 것을 예지하는 장면은 뭔가 굉장한 여운으로 남을 수밖에 없는 명장면 중 하나였던 기억될것 같습니다. 마커스는 갑작스럽게 세상을 떠난 소중한 사람을 잊지 못하는 인물로 그려졌기 때문에 소중한 사람이 자신 곁을 떠났을 때 어떠한 마음가짐으로 살아가야 할까?를 보여주었다고 생각합니다. 결국 마커스가 영매인 조지를 만나 사후세계에 있는 형과 접촉하는 장면은 "떠난 사람은 돌아올 수 없습니다. 다만 그들은 영적인 혼이 되어 사랑했던 사람 곁에 머무르며 지켜주죠. 그러니 살아가야 하는 사람들은 보고 싶은 마음을 간직한 채 그들이 바라는 대로 더욱 열심히 살아가 주세요." 라는 메시지를 전한 건 아닐까 생각됩니다. 3명의 주인공이 죽음을 통해 세상을 바라보게 만드는 판타지적 요소를 보다 쉽게 풀어내어 관객들에게 전달해 준 클린트 이스트우드 감독의 <히어애프터>였습니다. 내용이 엄청 재밌지는 않지만 잔잔한데 깊이 있는 여운을 느끼고 싶으신 분들께는 강력 추천드릴 수 있을 것 같습니다. #hereafter #clinteastwood #movie #moviereview #movierecommendation #영화명대사 #영화리뷰 #영화추천

Book: The Dark Tower series (1982 - 2004) Movie: The Dark Tower (2017) Summary: In Stephen King's genre-busting epic series Roland Deschain a Gunslinger (a sort of Arthurian Knight with pistols) resides in Mid-World, a reality that is one of many. He is on a quest to find the Dark Tower to prevent its destruction and encounters many enemies such as The Man in Black, The Crimson King, and Blaine the Mono. Along the way Roland recruits several allies to travel with him. The young boy Jake who seemingly died on Earth in 1977, the strung out addict Dean from 1987, and a woman with Disassociate Identity Disorder from 1964. Differences: ⚠️SPOILERS⚠️ The summary above is a pretty accurate description of the excellent series of novels. The movie by contrast is an extremely stripped down combination of the first and third book that also tries to act as a sequel to the book series. Verdict: The book series is an amazing mash-up of Post-apocalyptic, Western, Fantasy, and Horror stories. Read if you haven't already. The movie takes a story that could only likely be told in a multi-season television show and sands it down to a 98 minute muted color, inert, suspense free slog with a number of easter egg references to others Stephen King films. Even Matthew McConaughey isn't good in this movie. The only thing worth praising is Idris Elba's performance as Roland who you absolutely buy as an world weary Gunslinger from another world. Am I the only one that remembers there were a bunch of racist nerds that freaked out about his casting? Review Bushwick 2017 Blu-ray Rating: 3/5 Bushwick is backed by a strong Dave Bautista performance, but there’s an unevenness with the structure and screenplay that struggles to engage its audience. I love Bautista’s performance here and it is one of those characters that strengthens the entire film. Filmmakers Jonathan Milott and Cary Murnion are somewhat hamstrung by the budget to fully embrace the premise but they show a strong style that deserves further exploration for them as directors. I prefer this over their previous film Cooties and you can see the improvement when compared to their previous work. The characters apart from Bautista’s are very underdeveloped and Brittany Snow‘s character is held down by the damsel in distress model. It’s a growth for the character over the film as she’s flung into this uncontrollable new world, but we’ve been here with bigger budgets. The film has a political and social context that is part of the strong story components of the film and for anyone who’s read Brian Wood’s comic series DMZ, these divisions provide unpredictability. The story ends in unpredictable fashion and this bleak tone is something that needed to be explored much earlier to give this film an edginess to heighten tensions. It’ll divide audiences who want more action and those who wanted more drama. You could give me an extra 30 minutes of character and world development, and I believe this film would be stronger. As it stands it’s more of an action story with minimal character focus and there’s just not enough here to entice mainstream appeal. This film is neither funny nor scary, and that's disappointing as I was expecting a smart script from its Oscar nominated writer Diablo Cody. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes stars (in mo cap performances) Owen Teague as Noa, Kevin Durand as Proximus Ceaser and Peter Macon as Raka. With Freya Allan and William H. Macy playing the Human Leads. According to some sources this is set 300 years after the final film in the original Trilogy. However in the film it just says ‘several generations’ the ambiguity of which is much more pleasing. Three hundred years seemed far too long when you watch the full film. The apes are now in different clans and our antagonist is Noa the son of the leader of the Eagle clan. He is left for dead as his home is destroyed and most of his family are taken prisoner. We follow Noa’s journey as he tries to find them. Along the way he meets a more intelligent human Nova (Freya Allan) who the hunting party that captured his family were looking for. Firstly the special effects are exceptional, Avatar level only more hairy and less blue. It took me a while to distinguish between the apes of Eagle clan, but once Noa was on his journey this became less of an issue. Noa befriends Raka who teaches the word of Caesar, from the original Trilogy. I found it interesting how time had altered his words but left his message intact. For me Durand gives the best motion capture performance as Proximus Ceaser the leader of the Kingdom mentioned in the title. He is full of expression and maniacal. This film relies less on human leads and more on the Apes, so it needed the energy Durand brings to the film. I don't think this reaches the heights that the original reboot trilogy reached, Dawn in particular. However, it introduces the new mythology and new characters well and overall is a very enjoyable film. Rating: 3/5⭐ #kingdonoftheplanetoftheapes #owenteague #freyaallan

#cadillacman von Regisseur #rogerdonaldson #robinwilliams und #timrobbins in einer Komödie von Roger Donaldson anno 1990 klingt nach einem Gewinner durch und durch. Cadillac Man hat unbestritten Qualitäten, aber ein eindeutiger Gewinner ist der Film leider trotzdem nicht. Und dass obwohl sowohl Williams und Robbins, als auch der Rest des namhaften Casts (u.a. #frandrescher , #loripetty , #pamelareed , #paulguilfoyle , #annabellasciorra ) gut drauf sind und mehr als solide Leistungen abliefern. Für mich liegt das Problem des Films eher am Drehbuch. Der Anfang ist toll: er beschäftigt sich mit Robin Williams als schlitzohrigen Autoverkäufer, der mit mehreren Frauen Affären und ein paar Schulden hat. Er muss dringend Autos verkaufen, damit er seinen Job nicht verliert. Den Autosalon als Mikrokosmos und die Intrigen und die Dynamik dort, wäre Stoff für eine schwarzhumorige Variante von Glengarry Glen Ross gewesen. Das hätte mit Williams als Nucleus der Handlung gut funktionieren können. Allerdings läuft das Ganze auf eine Geiselnahme hinaus, die wiederum irgendwie ins Nichts führt. Tim Robbins als gehörnter Ehemann spielt das nicht schlecht, aber so haben die Affären und die Nöte von Williams kein Gewicht mehr. Es ist nicht ohne Charme, wie Williams sich auf Robbins Seite schlägt, um die Situation zu entschärfen, aber eben ein deutlich schwächerer dritter, Akt als möglich gewesen wäre.
