Review Imaginary 2024 Blu-ray Rating: 2.5/5 Imaginary has an inconsistency with its story and horror elements to truly grasp the complexities of the world building that could’ve delivered something truly special. Filmmaker Jeff Wadlow has been commercially successful for the Blumhouse Productions company with his previous directing credits, but each film has faced similar criticisms. My biggest gripe with this particular film is that it should work, but it doesn’t. There’s a lot that works and the dynamic between DeWanda Wise, Taegen Burns and Pyper Braun is one of the key examples of it working. I enjoyed that they played a twist early and moved this to towards uncharted territory, and that finale pulls things together nicely. Wadlow doesn’t spend a lot of time strengthening its characters and there’s minor exploration. The characters have introductions before they’ve served their purpose and removed from the story. There’s not a lot of effective scares and this falls into the similar territory to Wadlow’s Truth or Dare, that had an intriguing premise but lacked that certain energy required to hook fans of the genre. This film feels bogged down in the setup playbook and ticking all the boxes of the cliche story structure. This is essentially another failed venture from Wadlow and Blumhouse that’s watchable, but can’t put a fresh spin on the genre. And it's actually pretty good in my opinion. The casting is great, but I think Owen Wilson easily stole the show, the guy was super funny in this. Danny DeVito was also hilarious. The CGI is good too. It's a just a fun family friendly horror movie that has heart, laughs and scares. Surprisingly no woke BS like Disneys other movies, just family fun. I watched the film "Murphy's Romance" several days ago. I really liked it! Murphy's Romance is a heartfelt drama filled with charm and some fantastic starring performances from Sally Field & James Garner. Field & Garner play likable complex characters with perfect irresistible chemistry. You got some really good performances from Brian Kerwin and Corey Haim. The great script by Harriet Frank Jr. & Irving Ravetch( based off the novella by Max Schott) is a story filled with grit and steeped in realism on new beginnings, rebirth, and the past. The film is relateable with its complexities on love, family, and surviving. The film has such a funny, dry, snappy wit. The cinematography by William H. Fraker is well done accompanied by a wonderful score by Carole King. The film is nicely edited by Sidney Levin and has some solid production design, costume design, and set decoration. Review Spy Hard 1996 DVD Rating: 2.5/5 Spy Hard feels tired and feels content Leslie Nielsen through endless scenarios from popular action movies to mixed results. You can’t fault Nielsen for being committed to this comedy genre and he is the best part of this film. Filmmaker Rick Friedberg never found a big calling card for Hollywood and this was one of the two films he had directed. Friedberg has moments that work but the pacing as a whole is uneven with sporadic comedy beats. Nielsen was coming off the critical and commercial disappointment Dracula: Dead and Loving It, and this success would ensure his career in the genre was still alive. The problem with the genre was at this point it was running thin thanks to other films jumping in with further mixed results. The jokes find success at various times but there’s not enough story to work for the entire 80 minutes. This was a staple from my video shop rewatchables and I remember a lot of these jokes. It’s not one of the best Nielsen comedies but it’s certainly not a disaster by any means. If you’re a fan of the spoof genre you’ll find something here and Nielsen’s performance is likeable as always. Friedman wasn’t an ideal choice to helm this film and he’s unable to find a consistent tone to ensure this works. 98. THE BEEKEEPER (2024) No sé cuál era la intención al rodar esta película. La mía al verla era entretenerme y entrar en encefalograma plano. Eso lo conseguí. Pero el guión es absurdo a un nivel que ni siquiera queda justificado por ser una "película de acción" sin otro fin. Parece que pretenda ser una especie de "John Wick" sin el carisma de este. Y nunca pensé que Jason Statham pudiera parecerme no-carismático, pero aquí me pasó.
