💢Anime Monday💢 Gokushufudou (aka The Way of the Househusband) (2021-current) This action comedy slice of life anime sees a househusband performing everyday chores both in and out of the home. The twist here is that the househusband, Tatsu, is a former legendary Yakuza member known as "The Immortal Dragon". As Tatsu goes around town and interacts with people, his past life fills others with immediate intimidation. The comedy of it all is embeddeded in the over-dramatic nature in which Tatsu fulfills his duties. He takes making dinner for his wife and shopping for groceries as stone cold serious as he would taking out an opposing gang. He's precise and calculated in his approach, has an inner-monologue that adds to the dramatics and takes getting the wrong birthday gift or messing up a recipe in the same way as letting down a crime boss. The anime is easily digestable as the 16 minute episodes play out in the form of 6 vignettes per episode. The Way of the Househusband is also one of the few animes we've seen that almost nearly looks identical as its manga counterpart in terms of its animation style and the way the scenes play out, as if the manga is put right to screen page by page. Tatsu, his wife Miku, his friend and former colleague Masa and even their pet cat Gin (who gets a few vignettes as well) are at times endearing and hilarious. The show has non-linear storytelling which could be hard for some to follow along as the episodes give some of Tatsu's story but mostly is a slice of life, harmless anime that is fun to catch a few episodes of here and there. Overall, we'd only recommend this one for those that enjoy this style of anime series. You can stream it now on Netflix! #animemonday #animereview #animereviews #animescenes #animefan #animelover #animenewbie #animenovice #animescene #animescenes #animegeek #netflix #series #streaming #manga #art #otaku #instagram #thewayofthehousehusband #gokushufudou

💢Anime Monday💢 Blue Eye Samurai (Michael Green & Amber Noizumi, 2023) The latest Netflix animated original series is as gorgeous as it is brutal & mature. From the same studio that made Marvel's "What If..." show comes an adult animated series that explores themes of revenge, honor, tradition, & destiny. Through 8 episodes each character gets room to grow and expand. The story sees Mizu, a young warrior who sets a bloody path of vengeance from a life of solitude and grief. For being a woman and being half Caucasian and half Japanese, Mizu was shunned during the Edo period in Japan (around the late 1600's). Meanwhile, we also follow a princess named Akemi who also sees what being a woman is like from a different perspective in that era, coveted but married off for the purpose of power. The animation & art style are mesmerizing, capturing the scenic snowy terrain just as well as the blood soaked and fire burned cityscapes during battle. The story takes clear inspiration from the likes of Mulan & Kill Bill among others. The music accompanies the art and story perfectly and never distracts from the action but rather adds to it. The only nitpick gripes we had was some of the voice acting for the smaller roles were just okay and the believability of the main villian wielding a sword the way he did at the end was not there. Otherwise the show was near perfect for us. Netflix has been on a role as of the last few years with their orginal animation and "Blue Eye Samurai" is no different. In fact, the series is probably one of the better things released by the streaming giant this year. With very strong character development and a wonderful pace that sees all 8 episodes pack an immense amount of story into itself, we can't recommend "Blue Eye Samurai" enough as your next watch! #anime #animemonday #animereview #netflix #blueeyesamurai #action #adventure #mature #series #streaming #whattowatch #tvrecommendation #tvreview #filmcritic #filmcommunity #animelover #animenewbie #animenovice #animescene #instagram #instagood

💢Anime Monday💢 Cowboy Bebop (Hajime Yatate, 1998-1999) The 26 episode run might be short in terms of anime series in the late 90's, but Cowboy Bebop defines & cements itself with style, substance, and storytelling. For those unaware, Cowboy Bebop follows a duo named Spike and Jet who are bounty hunters exploring a colonized solar system. Along their hunts to make money and feed themselves, they come across others who get drawn into the group including Faye the femme fatale, Ed the hacker, and Ein a super intelligent Welsh Corgi. What makes Cowboy Bebop great but a standout is its stylistic score, dazzling cinematography, and its genre blending which lends to its exploration of its themes. The music is unconventional but somehow works great for the space western noir. From the catchy opening theme, to the jazz and blues, to even the rock inspiration it pulls from. The score in itself is almost a character too. The look and feel from a visual perspective is captivating. While the anime quality is of its time, the art style, this futuristic-noir look cant help but make you want to explore the gritty space with the characters. The themes of this anime are of a mature nature exploring existentialism, loneliness, redemption, and consequence for one's past. The backstories of our leads are slowly unraveled as the series goes on but the show ends on an ambiguous note which leaves viewers with much to debate. Cowboy Bebop is oozing with flair. The characters are easy to get pulled into and the gateway the show became as a result of its cult following is hard to ignore. For all these reasons and more, Cowboy Bebop stands the test of time and is one any anime fan should check off their watch list. Truly an all time favorite here! #anime #manga #art #otaku #animereview #animereviews #animescenes #animefan #animelover #animenewbie #animenovice #animescene #instagram #streaming #cowboybebop #space #western #noir #whattowatch #animerecommendation #animemonday

💢Anime Monday💢 Blood of Zeus (2020) This Netflix anime is based on Greek Mythology with the gods, demi-gods, titans, and commoners alike. The story is the series biggest strength as a Greek tragedy of two opposite men born to the same mother, caught in the entanglement of Zeus & Hera's toxic relationship leads to the destruction of Olympus and a civil war amongst the gods. Zeus with his infidelity and Hera's spiteful scorned vengeance sends Heron and Seraphim on two separate but intersecting paths. Secrets are revealed. Past indiscretions blaze the path of firey battles and families torn. And the rise of one leads to the fall of others. That being said, the animation, while at times delivering some colorful & cool imagery, felt lackluster for a modern anime. It could be that Japanese anime has set the bar so high in terms of the quality of the animation and art styles, but overall the animation here was lacking. At times, when a character should be visually distraught or incensed over something, the character instead had a blank facial expression. The voice acting performances too felt underwhelming in certain occasions. This could of been a directing choice, as the actors did give good performances in key moments, but all in all, the quality again of the performances were a bit inconsistent. Despite its flaws, if you enjoy Greek mythology & anime, Blood of Zeus is a pretty good 8 episode run thats digestable and intriguing in its Greek tale. You can catch this one streaming on Netflix! #anime #animemonday #animereview #animereviews #animescenes #animefan #animeedits #whattowatch #streaming #netflix #series #animenovice #animenewbie #animelover #greek #greekmythology #greekgods #zeus #hera #bloodofzeus

💢Anime Monday💢 Pokemon Indigo League This review covers the 52-episode run (available on Netflix as of this postdate) for the first season of the long running anime series. From the video game inspired opening scene to the many call backs from source material to show, Pokemon’s first season takes great strides in giving love to what kicked things off. The show follows the journey of a young boy named Ash Ketchum as he travels through the Kanto region hoping to become the best Pokemon trainer ever by battling gym leaders and eventually competing in the Pokemon league. On his journey, Ash picks up some friends along the way including the sweet but spunky Misty, the goofy and helpful Brock, and of course the lovable, trusty, while still packing quite the punch Pikachu. The characters and towns Ash visits feel unique and well-realized while adding a quirkiness to the anime’s sense of wonder and sweet tone. The Pokemon themselves are also diverse, with each one possessing its own personalities that clash well with the main characters. The animation feels a bit outdated, making it the show's weakest aspect when revisiting our old friends, yet the art style adds credence to the nostalgia of it all. The bright colors and detailed character designs also help cut back the negatives of the animation in total. The humor still hits whether adult or child and feels like a series that is still watchable amongst any age group to be enjoyed. This in fact is one of Pokemon’s greatest strengths for its first season, as its themes of friendship, hard work, and perseverance resonate with people of all ages while the battle sequences bring enough action to suffice. A truly timeless classic anime series. The cast of characters are memorable and charming. The theme song is spoken for in its tone-setting excitement. Team Rocket are great foils to our heroes while larger threats loom overhead. Pokemon doesn’t take itself too seriously while still getting the viewer invested with Ash’s journey, while we cheer on his wins and feel for him in his losses. Pokemon Indigo League is well worth the revisit for longtime fans and a fantastic jumping point for those new to the anime.

💢Anime Monday💢 Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Season 3 Episode 11 Season Finale "A Connected Bond: Daybreak and First Light" *SPOILERS AHEAD* "Thank Goodness" It's funny how the characters can speak for the audience. That meta moment when the writers know they've put you through an emotional typhoon not just all season, but saving some of it's most nerve-wracking, heart-thumping, gut-wrenching moments for the very end. So by the end, when our favorites are saying "thank goodness", they know we're all saying it back. After Mugen Train and Entertainment District left our heroes in sad and vulnerable positions to leave off those last two arcs, it was quite refreshing and fitting an end to finish on a happier note. But that happy-ish ending doesnt come without going through the emotional gauntlet. In a season full of twists and turns, Demon Slayer saves some its best for the finale. Like when Tanjiro is about to level the Upper Four rank demon and show him no sympathy, the demon grows quadruple his size, squeezing the life out of Tanjiro. Or when Tanjiro cleaves the giant demon's head off, only for it to keep running for flesh, as the smaller sneaky Upper Four his still hiding in the heart of the giant. And Nezuko. Sweet sweet Nezuko. In what hearkened back to the desperation of season 1 (good pickup @culinarilycorrupt) Tanjiro is placed in the impossible position of finishing off the demon, once and for all, or save his sister from burning up in the sun. When Nezuko makes the choice for Tanjiro, flinging him off of her, the camera holds and the music swells, sitting with him in that moment as he has to see his sister die for him to finish the job. Thank goodness. Nezuko somehow survives the flame bath of death...and can talk now...but is still a demon. Just utterly insane. While everyone rejoices however, Muzan realizes that Nezuko is the one demon he's been looking for across thousands of years. And he's got his aim & focus now dead set on her. There are numerous character moments that filled this episode, showing teamwork and how helping others can come back to you, as Tanjiro says earlier in the season. 👇CONTINUED IN COMMENTS👇

💢Anime Monday💢 Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Season 3 Episode 10 “Love Hashira Mitsuri Kanroji” (2023) *SPOILERS AHEAD* While episode 10 is action-filled, endearing, and inspirational, the plot does find itself in the pitfall of being too formulaic. Just like with Genya & Muichiro, Mitsuri finds herself in a precarious situation, on the verge of potential death battling an Upper demon. In that split second spot, Kanroji recollects her past. Similar to Tanjiro and Muichiro, Kanroji also develops a demon slayer mark on her, making her ever so stronger. Despite the repetitive story beats, including ANOTHER CLIFFHANGER…there is still quite a lot to “love” about this latest installment. Episode 10 is arguably one of the more visually satisfying when it comes to color. The bright, flashy pinks as Mitsuri swings her ribbon sword around, the vivid blues, greens, and oranges from the various attacks of the Upper Four, including some dazzling red and blues electrifying the skies. The animation of the world around our heroes contrasting to their own animation makes for eye-grabbing moments, like Kanroji posing against the moon or Genya literally ripping a tree from the ground and throwing it at the demon, or Tanjiro sniffing out the demon, as the camera glides POV with the scent trail. Though we wish there was just a bit more time spent on Kanroji’s backstory, her tale nonetheless is one of individuality and being yourself, rebelling against societal norms, and finding love & acceptance from those around you who care. This love motivates Kanroji to help everyone who needs it, including Tanjiro and the gang. Though Mitsuri has different hair, eats a lot and is super strong, she finds that she doesn’t need to color her hair normal or hide her strength to fit in, but rather being herself is enough. As the penultimate episode to the finale of Season 3, “Love Hashira Mitsuri Kanroji” leaves just a bit to be desired going into the end of the season. That being said, as a standalone installment, episode 10 is funny, sweet, and entertaining thanks to the valiant & spunky Mitsuri Kanroji.

⚡️Animation Week⚡️ 💢Anime Monday💢 Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Season 3 Episode 9 “Mist Hashira Muichiro Tokito” (2023) *SPOILERS AHEAD* Making a strong case for best episode of the season, the latest installment of the Demon Slayer franchise puts the majority of focus on Muichiro (points to the title of the episode) as he continues his showdown with Upper Five demon Gyokko. Sprinkled with sensational character moments for almost everyone involved, “Mist Hashira Muichiro Tokito '' capitalizes on previous episodes momentum to slice and dice its way into a phenomenal chapter. After weeks and weeks of Tokito being tortured within his water prison, the newly confident Hashira makes easy work of Gyokko, though not without some tricks by the Upper five. Gyokko sends 10,000 demon fish Tokito’s way, and even sheds its own skin to avoid Muichiro’s blade, transforming into a slick yet sickly looking gorgon creature. Ultimately the Upper Five had no chance, as Tokito strategically outwits and outmaneuvers, gliding and floating through the dense layers of fog around his foe. The battle culminates in what is one of the smoothest kills in Demon Slayer history, as Muichiro cleanly and swiftly decapitates the demon. The animation here is stunning, the score is funky and cool, yet worked well within the battle sequences. It was well executed as well to have Muichiro finish the demon halfway through the episode to really hammer home how far Tokito has come on his journey. There are honestly too many great moments to mention in one post but the two best were first: Muichiro killing Gyokko’s head Trunks style, treating him like a game of Fruit Ninja and then misting away his remains. Close 2nd was when Kotetsu revealed he survived his attack thanks to Rengoku’s hilt which Tanjiro gave him at request to be added to his newest sword. The comedy mixed with heartfelt moments was expertly executed. Speaking of Tanjiro, the end of the episode sees Tanjiro briefly as he and the gang are reaching the end of their proverbial gas tanks battling the Upper Four demon. 👇CONTINUED IN COMMENTS👇

💢Anime Monday💢 Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Season 3 Episode 8 “The Mu in Muichiro” (2023) *SPOILERS AHEAD* In Japanese, “Mu” can have multiple meanings, but generally is used to mean “nothing” or “not”. The multiple angles of “mu” is handled beautifully in episode 8, as we see the tragic backstory of Muichiro Tokito the Mist Hashira. Similar to episode 6 and Genya’s heartbreaking tale, Muichiro too goes through the unimaginable while the episode focuses solely on his awakening of amnesia and a regained confidence within himself. As Muichiro removes the spikes from his face and body, he first remembers his dad and how he loved helping him pick wood. This flashback triggers Muichiro’s memories and he thinks back to the tragic night where he lost both of his parents. Caught up in the tragedy of his story, the episode delivers a great twist revealing Muichiro is a twin. His brother Yuichiro helps raise his twin moving forward, as his cold and harsh demeanor seems all too familiar to how Muichiro acted at the start of the season arc. The editing and animation once again elevate the drama of the episode. The reveal of the demon in the doorway attacking the twins was expertly executed and led to another great moment of editing where Muichiro blacks out in a rage and his violent acts are replaced by a deep red blood running down against a dark backdrop. The heart wrenching and beautiful moment between the brothers as Muichiro hears Yuichiro pleading for his brother to be spared was touching, painful, & cathartic. Sound is also excellently used to play into the strong character moments for Muichiro, like the aforementioned demon scene when the sound of insects humming grows louder and louder until a dead silence hits right before the viewer is slammed with loudness again from the attack of the demon. Or when Muichiro is back in the current world from his thoughts, with his new (& badass sword), as the Upper Five Demon shoots a grotesque array of octopus tentacles at Tokito, the silence and only his narration as he swipes swiftly through the demon’s offense. Only as he finishes his attack does the sound slide back in. 👇CONTINUED IN COMMENTS👇

💢Anime Monday💢 Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Season 3 Episode 7 “Awful Villain” (2023) *SPOILERS AHEAD* While “Awful Villain” is one of the weaker episodes of the season so far, it still delivers on some great visuals, good action, & some heartfelt emotion sprinkled in. The installment is broken into two even parts, where the first half continues where we left last episode, as Tanjiro goes for the strike on the Upper Four Demon and the second half finally sees Muchiro Tokito break free from his water prison. The introduction to Hatred was grand yet did alas feel like a bit of a twist for the sake of it at this point. Even Tanjiro proclaims, as he sees what originally is thought as a 6th demon, “Come on. Enough is Enough.” Come to find out, Anger absorbed Joy, Sorrow, & Pleasure to level up and protect the little version of Hantengu. This demon has the perspective that Tanjiro and company are the “awful villians” which is a justification for the Demon’s many killings. Both narratively and cinematically, Hatred comes off intimidating, with one gaze freezing Tanjiro and Genya in their tracks. The sound was really great with Hatred and throughout the episode. The crunchy bone sound when he extracts something to beat his boisterous drum kit (which is attached to him), is grossly fearful for the eyes and ears. Visibly, the stone dragons that attack after the drums beat, look pretty great overall, with the action sequence between them and the heroes coming out excellent. Then the episode switches back over to Muchiro and The Upper Five Demon Gyokko. The latter becomes bored with Tokito and moves on to the shack where Mr. Haganezuka is hyper focused on restoring the ancient sword. Gyokko becomes aggravated, to comedic levels, with the swordsmiths’ dedication and concentration to the blade, even through repeated attacks breaking his mask and revealing his face. Meanwhile, Tokito tries one last strike to break free and fails, submitting to his demise. 👇CONTINUED IN COMMENTS👇

💢Anime Monday💢 Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Season 3 Episode 6 “Aren’t You Going to Become a Hashira?" (2023) *SPOILERS AHEAD* An emotional gut punch is what episode 6 delivers on in the form of a Genya backstory entry. Things pick up where we left off in the previous episode as the new look Genya, while more aggressive, was still coherent and responsive to Tanjiro. Speaking off, with that great sniffer of his, Tanjiro detects a 5th demon clone (WHAT?!) who is hiding off in the woods somewhere, a twist that made for some great action while we build to the main story for episode 6. The fifth clone being similar in look and demeanor to the original first copy of Hantengu AND tiny was a nice touch for comedy and shock value. The camera and visual work here are just stunning, between the frenetic cuts and jumps or the way the shot follows Genya as he frantically tries to find the 5th clone after Tanjiro tags him in is a great enhancer to the action. The yellows and oranges as well, gleaming gorgeously during Genya’s flashbacks were undeniably stellar. Demon Slayer somehow continues its consistency in top notch animation and action sequences. Other than the quickest of check-ins with Tokito still stoically sitting in his water prison, Episode 6 is about Genya, and what a way to not only tell a tragic and heartbreaking story for him but also give you reason to root for the guy moving forward, if you weren’t before already. On the brink of death, realizing he can’t defeat the 5th demon clone himself and getting snuffed behind him, Genya thinks about a defining moment in his life involving his older brother. The story told there touches on loss, parental abuse, guilt, forgiveness, & tragedy, which is better seen than told. A truly heart wrenching and powerful story out of the several instances of catastrophe within Demon Slayer. Unsurprising however, as Genya solemnly regrets and remembers his family, Tanjiro saves Genya, only for Genya to get Swiss cheesed taking a shot for Tanjiro. Genya valiantly gives Tanjiro the green light to take the 5th clone down and just as Tanjiro swings a mighty blow, cut to credits. 👇CONTINUED IN COMMENTS👇

💢Anime Monday💢 Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Season 3 Episode 5  “Bright Red Sword" (2023)  *SPOILERS AHEAD*   Episode 5 is a Tokitio heavy episode that focuses on his battle with the Upper 5 demon Gyokko. We also get a healthy dose of Kanroji saving some villiagers from a big ass goldfish, as a bit of comedy relief to the dense drama and action. “Bright Red Sword” finishes up with quite the shocking and awe-inducing ending from the trio of Tanjiro, Nezuko, and Genya, taking out the Upper 4 demon in one big bright and flame filled dragon dance combo.   The episode does a great job of jumping between the three running plots between Tokito and Gyokko, Kanroji and the villagers, and where we left Tanjiro and company from the last episode. Gyokko gets a chilling introduction as Tokito suddenly stops Kotetsu & Haganezuka and declares, “It’s here”. Gyokko, the Upper Five demon is something out of a horror film with a striking piano score to match as he displays his “artwork”, the mangled and tortured bodies of other swordsmith villagers he’s captured. The sick demon twists a sword into the somehow still alive villagers and induces a silent rage from Tokito. Unfortunately for Lord Tokito, Gyokko had an answer for every attack, whether it be poison spikes or a water prison pot.    As episode 5 bounces back and forth between duels, we see Tanjiro and Nezuko saving one another back-to-back as they try to escape the Upper 4 demons clear advantage over the two siblings. The two’s bond and constant saving of each expertly built into the climax of the episode. While the excuse of the dust needing to settle for the demon clones to find and kill Tanjiro felt like an odd writing choice, it nonetheless gave Nezuko the time she needed to squeeze Tanjiro’s blade, igniting the sword into a brightly flamed Upper Demon killing machine.    The animation for the final fight here was nothing short of magnificent. The colors jumped off the screen as the camera comes in tight on each clone Tanjiro swoops through. *CONTINUED IN COMMENTS*

💢Anime Monday💢 Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Season 3 Episode 4  “Thank You, Tokito" (2023)  *SPOILERS AHEAD*   Episode 4 is an action heavy, drama laden installment where Tanjiro, Genya, & Nezuko all have their hands full with the Upper Four demon Hantengu, who is now split into 4 unique and powerful demons. The visuals produce once again, as consistent by now for the show’s standards. The battles for everyone involved seesaw between getting pummeled, to finally getting the upper hand, only to be knocked back down once more.    The first 3rd of the episode mostly covers Tokito as he saves Kotetsu from a Goldfish demon. Episode 4 does a proper job of furthering Tokito’s character development as he debates what to do. Tokito’s sudden memory is jolted, as he’s struck by a flashback of Kagaya, the leader of the Demon Slayer Corps, giving him advice as he healed to regain his memory. The moment played serene, as you could feel the enlightenment takeover Tokito through the screen.    The last 2/3rds of the episode saw Tanjiro take on the Joy Upper 4 split, as he hacked but got slashed by the bird-like demon. The MVP’s of the episode however was Nezuko and Genya. While the audience is well aware of Nezuko’s power at this point and the fiery rage she can be set into, Genya’s chant through many near-death experiences, helped him emerge as a real player in the battle.     The pinks and blues from the fire and lightening attacks, respectively, lit up the screen with gorgeous galore. As well, the score, with touches of electro hints, bounces and bumps as the tense fight builds. The shots, whether Genya pose of vengeance or Nezuko’s gnarly pierced neck/electric combo, provided on the action, suspense, and thrill of it all.    Topped off by another cliffhanger for the return of Kanroji, Episode 4 keeps the blockbuster start to the Swordsmith Village Arc rolling as the intrigue of what’s to come only grows more and more. #anime #manga #animes #animereview #animereviews #animescenes #whattowatch #demonslayer #swordsmithvillagearc #tanjiro #nezuko #cinephile #streaming #tvreview #animefan #animelover #animenewbie #animenovice #animescene #instagram #tvreviews

💢Anime Monday💢 Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba  Swordsmith Village Arc  (S3E3 “A Sword from Over 300 Years Ago", 2023)  *SPOILERS AHEAD* Episode 3 of the Swordsmith Village Arc is packed with notable moments, hilarity, horror, and suspenseful thrills. Upper Demons Four & Five have arrived, each giving their own unique eerie introductions to the Swordsmith Village. Tanjiro and Tokito both get to have great character moments here as the season begins an epic showdown with the two Upper Demons. Before the terror started, the first 10 minutes did a great job showing notable moments, like the return of Haganezuko to fix the rusted 300-year-old blade, Tanjiro receiving a new (& dope) new sword, and Genya's re-emergence is soaked in hilarious comedy beats. That being said, its seemingly a ploy to let your guard down. The horror elements of Upper Five's kill, with the blood-stained vase, the grotesque shape, and flailing arms everywhere is nightmare fuel. And just if that wasn’t enough, one of the best scenes of the early season plays out. Tanjiro and Tokito chat, with Tanjiro reminding Tokito of the benefits of helping others, smartly playing into the ending sequence of the episode. With each exchange the two demon slayers share, the feeling of uneasy dread grows & grows until Upper Four slowly crawls into frame with disturbing cries for mercy. Tokito, showing magnificently his Mist technique, with ease beheads the sly demon, only for it to split in two. This caused some worry as a viewer seeing as we’d just seen this same trick with the brother/sister Upper Demons last season. Genya’s epic save using his mysterious Nichirin Shotgun, beheading the demons nearly simultaneously proved to be costly as the Upper Four split again, into 4 separate demons, all younger, stronger, and having their own unique look and powers. The start of the showdown between Tanjiro & Tokito vs Upper Four brought the terror and action, making for an overall enjoyable episode that leaves our heroes with a very tough battle on their hands. #animereview #animereviews #anime #manga #animefan #animelover #animenewbie #animenovice #animescenes #demonslayer #swordsmithvillagearc

💢Anime Monday💢 Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba  Swordsmith Village Arc  (S3E2 “Yoriichi Type Zero”, 2023)   *SPOILERS AHEAD*   “The sharpness of the sword is not in the edge of the blade, but in the hand of the warrior.”   Episode 2 picks up right where we left in the first installment of Season 3, where Tanjiro overhears from the bushes Hashira Muichiro Tokito arguing with a young swordsmith named Kotetsu. The two bicker in front of the mysterious figure that Tanjiro is fixiated on from his dreams. The big twist here is that the figure is actually a combat training doll based on a great warrior from over 300 years ago. Tanjiro jumps in to defend young Kotetsu from Tokito’s lashing and it is here we are more firmly introduced to the demeanor of the Mist Hashira.    Almost playing a ying to Mitsuri’s yang, Muichiro is soft spoken, yet does not bite his tongue. He is lucid in his words but boy are they harsh. While Muichiro can come off quite rude and unabashed, he takes his role as a Hashira very seriously. After Tokito has his fill with training against the Yoriichi doll, the rest of the episode is a heavy yet short character build for Tanjiro. As Tanjiro and Kotetsu get to know one another through dialogue and rigorous training, the themes of the episode spill out; between the social comparison bias Tanjiro has towards Muichiro, the family legacy Kotetsu and Tanjiro both share in common that they wish to uphold, and the self-expectations the two place on themselves.    The training itself is a mixture of hilarity and determination as Tanjiro learns once again to trust his sense of smell in combat, thanks to the persistent and unyielding young Kotetsu. Once Tanjiro finally stops holding back and goes for the kill on Yoriichi Type Zero, an ancient sword is revealed in the place where the doll’s head use to be, leaving the viewers on yet another exciting cliffhanger. The animation here is spoken for, as Demon Slayer expertly displays eye-quenching art on the screen time and time again. The Swordsmith Village arc thus far masterfully builds upon itself both on the surface and deeper beneath the sheath too. A truly excellent way to start the new season!

💢Anime Monday💢 And finally, we have come to the very anticipated moment. MoviesforPandas presents the first episode review for Demon Slayer Swordsmith Village Arc. Every Monday moving forward (barring any preempted weeks), new episode reviews will drop here on the channel until seasons end. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba (S3E1 "Someone's Dream", 2023) *SPOILERS AHEAD* Episode one sees a lengthy prologue where the Upper Rank demons are all summoned to the Infinity Castle by Muzan. The rest of the episode catches up with our heroes as they recover from near death in the Entertainment District and Tanjiro takes a trip to the Swordsmith Village. Demon Slayer continues to top itself in epic scenes. The full introduction to the Infinity Castle was mind-blowing, to say the least. From the camera work, to the animation style, quick, fast zooming edits, and a score that amplified the sheer grand of it all masterfully done. The meeting of the Upper Rank demons illustrated well the animosity between them, especially between Akaza, The 3rd Rank and Kokushibo, the 1st Upper Rank Demon. From there on, the whole of the remaining runtime balanced out well with sweet hilarity and resilient adventure. Inosuke served as a great deal of comic relief here, nailing the gut punch laughs every time. The intro of the Hashiras were well done with Mitsuri's bubbly and charming nature displayed, while Muchiro leaves us on a cliffhanger. Tanjiro seeing the figure in his dreams, with the likeness of Kokushibo as well, lends great mystery & ties everything together perfectly, making for an excellent start to kickoff the new arc! #anime #manga #art #otaku #animereview #animereviews #animescenes #demonslayer #swordsmithvillagearc #whattowatch #animenewbie #animenovice #animefan #animelover #cinephile #animation #tv #review #tvreview #streaming #crunchyroll #instagram #love #s

4/11/2023, 6:00:01 AM

💢Anime Monday💢 At last, we have arrived at season 2 of Demon Slayer before the anticipated season 3 premiere. As MoviesforPandas continues its highlighting of the phenomenon, let's take a closer look into the 2nd season. Demon Slayer - Kimetsu no Yaiba (S2, 2021) Known as the "Entertainment District", we first get a bit of a prequel episode leading into the events of Mugen Train. Then, similarly to Dragon Ball Super, the events of the Mugen Train film is split into 6 episodes, leaving the new material at a consolidated 11 episode run. With that being said, what a run it was! The only real negative here is that it wasn't longer. The story itself sees Tanjiro and the gang investigate the disappearance of young ladies in the Entertainment District, under the guidance of the Sound Hashira, Tengen Uzui. Tengen boasts his own Sound Hashira Corp along with him that not only aids but gives the character more to bite onto. Demon Slayer's Entertainment District darker tone this time around is illustrated well in its storytelling while accompanied by its wickedly stellar animation style, special effects, and action sequences. The juggling of tones seeing Tanjiro and the boys infiltrate the District, handling themes of abuse and exploitation while still being playfully lighthearted is impressive. The two adversarial demons bring twists and bends that drop the jaw over and over. Shout out goes to Ryota Osaka for voicing Gyutaro, the brother Demon, sounding oh so evil. The supporting cast gets to shine more as well, especially Nezuko stepping up in a major way. Finally, Tanjiro really flexes his conviction and determined nature in season 2, as he is pushed to his absolute limits. Entertainment District doesn't disappoint with heart-stopping drama and action, sprinkled generously with comedy to even things out. It truly expounds its greatest qualities while adding new aspects to take in. Making this series that much more easy to recommend! #anime #manga #whattowatch #animenewbie #animenovice #animescenes #demonslayer #entertainmentdistrict #tanjiro #tengen #animereview #animereviews #animefan #animelover #cinephile #animation

💢Anime Monday💢 Starting today and every Monday, MoviesforPandas will be covering the Demon Slayer franchise, including the first 2 seasons of the anime and the Mugen Train film. This will all culminate to the new season, which will also be covered. Kicking things off is what started all the hype, Season 1. The main story of Demon Slayer sees a young boy named Tanjiro Kamado embark on a mission to save his now-turned demon sister Nezuko and avenge the death of his family at the hands of another demon. The length of the show sees things from mostly the perspective of Tanjiro as he explores themes of guilt, loss, determination, dedication, trust, friendship, among many more, making for an engaging and enthralling tale. We'd be remissed if the animation wasn't given its praise. The fight scenes are gorgeously choreographed, expending details to give the action more acumen in relation to the drama. The art style is intricate in its design and pops with color, making it eaiser to sink your teeth into the world of Demon Slayer visually. Along with looks, the characters are memorable no doubt, if not at times needing of some room to appreciate over time. Tanjiro for example is a very likable and easy to root for main protagonist with compassion like no other tied to unwavering determination. Or Nezuko who is fiercely faithful to her brother, so much so she fights back her demon urges in order to protect him. Characters like Zenitsu and Inosuke can take some episodes to get use to as they can seem obnoxious at times. The show however does a fantastic job at peeling back its character's layers to reveal the deeper person behind the antics. Demon Slayer is one of those shows that you'd here whispers about at first, "hey have you heard of Demon Slayer" until eventually everyone caught on to why it has become arguably the most popular and successful anime of current times. The show perfectly balances action with emotional depth that pulls in all audiences alike. Demon Slayer, particularly Season 1 is a must watch for any anime fan, and frankly any fan of compelling stories and kick-ass, edge of your seat action. Can't recommend it enough!

💢Anime Monday💢 On the 2nd to last stop in the MoviesforPandas celebration of the Dragon Ball franchise, we have made it to Broly... Dragon Ball Super: Broly (Tatsuya Nagamine, 2018) Taking place following the Tournament of Power arc, the film acts as a revamp of sorts for Goku and Vegeta's orgins, at least to start. We also see Broly too as a child, illustrating the royal dynamic of the Sayians and Frieza's cold ruling of them. Speaking of Frieza, while it can be exhausting seeing the same villians rehashed over and over, the inclusion of Frieza here is important to the overall plot and themes of breaking free, retaliation, and power. The beginning of the film is well told, setting up the justification for battle in current day. However when Vegeta, and then Goku finally take on Broly, things get action-heavy quick and feverishly. You can feel the intensity oozing off the screen with each blast and scream. From a technical standpoint, DBS Broly is gorgeous. The colors pop, with blue energy blasts, green, red and yellow transformations, with cosmic, experimental visuals that glow against the snowy white backdrop. The film simultaneously gives a throwback feel in its animation style yet is so cinematic in its framing and directing. DBS Broly gives fans a stellar, and finally canon, take of the iconic secret Sayian while also being a great starting movie for new fans alike. #movies #movie #films #film #anime #manga #dragonball #dragonballz #dragonballsuper #dragonballsuperbroly #goku #vegeta #whattowatch #modernanime #cinephile #animereview #animereviews #animescenes #peliculas #animenewbie #animenovice

💢Anime Monday💢 As we push forward in the "Super" era of Dragon Ball here at MoviesforPandas, we come to another series produced by Toei but is Toriyama excluded, non-canon, yet helps fill the void until a new official anime series arrives... Super Dragon Ball Heroes (2018 - Current) Setup as essentially a promotional series for a game of the same name, Super DB Heroes is hollow in its story, but has fun in using characters from franchise past and even uses some aspects of GT too. The show attempts to present many new characters as well and isnt afraid in the least to swirl in iconic characters while giving them new looks and tweaks. The episodes are action heavy and they waste no time getting right to the meat of the conflict. Its fun at times to see these alternate futures of our favorite characters but sometimes having all the spices you want doesnt mean you'll season the food well. That being said, as Dragon Ball fans wait for another anime to return, the least we have is this "what if" bright lights but little substance web series that somewhat scratches the itch of wanting new episodic Dragon Ball. #tvreview #tvreviews #anime #animes #animereview #animereviews #animescenes #dragonball #dragonballz #dragonballsuper #goku #vegeta #manga #televisi #television #whattowatch #modernanime #animelover #animenewbie #animenovice #review #actionadventure

12/20/2022, 1:21:45 AM

💢Anime Monday💢 Moving onward in the Dragon Ball franchise, things from this point on will be getting "Super". Starting with the follow-up to the orginal series that fans had been hoping for. Dragon Ball Super (2015-2018) The series starts at a time of peace for Goku and friends until a God of Destruction, Beerus, has a vision of a legendary Super Sayian God. Beerus and his keeper of sorts Whis usher in a cavalcade of new characters to the franchise that take Goku, Vegeta and some old & new friends on wild arcs for toe-to-toe showdowns with their toughest foes to date. While the animation can be a miss at times, some of the stories (Resurrection F & Zamasu specifically) are plagued with dissatisfing story tropes, and the filler episodes can be hit or miss, Dragon Ball Super more than makes up for it by bringing the series some its best fights and imagery, along with one of it's best stories ever in the Universe Survival Arc. Super is the perfect combination of what made DBZ so magical and imaginative, with the light-hearted, silly moments helping to cool down the intense and gripping battles with foes that bring genuine uncertainty to a character's success in combat. The use of color is also noteworthy, adding even more depth visually and in character. A triumph for the Dragon Ball franchise and a series that still today is feeding into new movies and content, showing the staying power of the anime overall.

12/13/2022, 1:27:19 AM

💢Anime Monday💢 As the journey moves forward covering the Dragon Ball franchise, we reach the controversial and mostly paned (no pun intended) sequel series. Dragon Ball GT (1996-1997) Serving as the first series in the run to not come from established manga, GT sees our hero Goku shruken down in size, hearkened back to his original look, paired with Pan and Trunks for the first half of the episode count. By the 2nd count half, we get more of the established characters from the first two shows, but by then it's a bit for not. Because GT didn't come from Toriyama's manga run, many fans don't consider the show canon, even though Toriyama oversaw the production and assisted with certain elements. GT is more seen as a "What If?" continuation of the franchise. While GT takes some bold and wild swings in creative ways, they ultimately feel like departures from what made the orginal series great. Although there are nuggets in there that make for great visuals or a laugh or two, this show is not one to revisit much, if at all. #tvreview #tvreviews #anime #animes #animereview #animereviews #animescenes #dragonball #dragonballz #dragonballgt #dragonballsuper #90sanime #animelover #whattowatch #animenewbie #animenovice #manga #televisi #cinephile #review #goku #vegeta #instagram

12/6/2022, 3:52:43 AM

💢Anime Monday💢 As we continue our coverage of the Dragon Ball franchise here at MoviesforPandas, we make our way to arguably the most prolific and impressionable anime of all time Dragon Ball Z (1989-1996) Goku, now grown up and lived many years on Earth, defends the planet he calls home from enemies that wish to destroy him. Meanwhile, the mystical dragon balls play into the narrative in a multitude of ways, mostly at the hope of a villians rise to power. In contrast to the orginal Dragon Ball series, where young Goku takes on the main focus, Goku's prevalence stays in tact for DBZ, yet several other characters get to share the stage along the way. The most well known being the former villian turned anti-hero Vegeta, who has one of the more fleshed out and captivating story arcs in the series. We also get to see Goku's son Gohan grow along the series run, attempting to fill his father's shoes. A number of other characters get to shine as well, like the former villian Piccolo, the cautionary Krillin, and in later arcs, the futuristic time-traveler Trunks. The main villians, like Frieza, Cell, and Buu all get plenty of time to build in power and become legitimate and at times almost impossible forces for the heros to take down. The show gives a generous episode count to milk the drama and tension of these showdowns between foe and hero. An all-time anime that is spoken for with its influence and recognition as we see the impact its had across a multitude of media through the decades. Speaking for a number of anime fans everywhere, Dragon Ball Z was the entry point for many who now adore and cherish anime and is ripe in its nostalgic sentiment.

💢ANIME MONDAY💢 Odd Taxi (2021) Odokawa (Natsuki Hanae) a 41-year old walrus taxi driver, drives through Tokyo and takes in a cast of characters as they conversate with him in his taxi. Their stories play out and begin to interweave, resulting in Odokawa getting wrapped up in a case of a missing school girl. As the yakuza and police get involved, the plot builds to a wildly tense ride that delivers a surprising ending. In between, we follow several other stories of characters that ride with the walrus taxi driver, which really made this anime feel like a Tarantino-esque project.
