Howard the Duck- Howard the Duck is living life to its fullest on Duckworld, a planet that’s just like Earth but inhabited by ducks. One night as he’s relaxing in his chair, he’s pulled from his apartment and thrown through space, landing on our earth in Cleveland, Ohio. He meets and helps a young woman named Beverly and she lets him stay the night at her apartment. JasonLovesMuppets, Too here and today we’re checking out a flick I saw in the theatres when it came out. “Howard the Duck” was poised to be a hit for the summer of ’86, and the hype leading up to it was impressive. It wasn’t marketed like movies today; we were not shown a lot of stuff and Howard wasn’t plastered on every food item in the stores. But I was excited and very happy with the film when I saw it. Other people obviously thought otherwise because it didn’t do well. I think it’s enjoyed more now for what it is- a fun, silly flick with some pretty impressive visuals with a cool Lovecraft-inspired monster or two at the end. '인생 영화'에 대해 이야기할 때 빠지지 않고 거론되는 작품이고 나에게도 인생 영화로 오래도록 남아 있는 작품이다. 하지만 정작 이 작품을 극장에서 본 적은 없어서 작품을 보면서 알 수 없는 갈증 같은 것이 느껴졌었는데, 좋은 이벤트 덕분에 오늘에서야 갈증이 시원하게 해소되는 순간을 맞이하게 되었다. 이 작품을 처음 봤을 때가 기억난다. 극장의 거대한 스크린이 아니라 TV를 통해서 봤음에도 영화를 구성하는 모든 요소가 완벽한 앙상블을 이룬다는 것이 이런 것이구나 싶을 정도로 영화에 압도당하는 느낌을 받았고 엄청난 몰입감을 경험한 순간이었다. 철학적인 대사와 토머스 뉴먼의 아름다운 음악, 틈만 나면 등장하는 명장면들, 사소한 작은 디테일 하나 놓치지 않는 연출, 배우들의 열연, 그리고 주인공 앤디를 제외하고 레드, '브룩스(제임스 휘트모어)', '토미(길 벨로우즈)' 등 어떤 인물을 주인공으로 놓고 봐도 전혀 위화감이 없을 정도로 서사와 캐릭터성이 완벽하게 갖춰진 등장인물까지 버릴 것 하나 없이 시작부터 끝까지 완벽하게 구성되어 있어 어느새 쇼생크 교도소 안에 있는 듯한 착각이 들 정도의 몰입감을 선사하는 작품. 이번에 관람하면서 작중 레드의 대사처럼 앤디가 정말 대단하고 특별하게 느껴졌다. 그리스도교의 '칠죄종'을 연상케하는 온갖 죄악으로 가득한 사건 사고가 벌어지는 쇼생크 교도소 안에서의 생활이 녹록지 않음에도 '자신'을 잃지 않고 좌절과 역경이 있더라도 희망을 가슴에 품고 긴 긴 시간을 견뎌낸 앤디를 보면서 현재 상황이 좋지 않더라도 앤디처럼 자신을 잃지 않고 희망을 가지고 살아야겠다는 마음이 자연스레 가슴속에 자리 잡는 작품. 그리고 삶이 밑바닥으로 떨어졌을 때 그 역경을 함께 견디고 슬픔을 함께 나누며 위로와 응원의 말을 통해 다시 일어설 용기를 주는 우정에 대해 생각해 보게 만드는 작품. 앤디처럼 고요하고 잔잔하다가도 마지막에 엄청난 카타르시스와 깊은 감동을 경험하게 해주는 시대를 넘어 영원히 기억될 마스터피스 영화 <쇼생크 탈출>이었다. “기억해요, 레드. 희망은 좋은 거예요. 아마 가장 좋은 것일지도 모르죠. 그리고 좋은 것들은 절대 사라지지 않아요.” 🎞 화면 비율 : 1.85:1 🍪 쿠키 영상 : X #영화 #쇼생크탈출 #TheShawshankRedemption #스티븐킹 #StephenKing #프랭크다라본트 #FrankDarabont #팀로빈스 #TimRobbins #모건프리먼 #MorganFreeman #메가박스 #키노라이츠
쇼생크 탈출 (1994) The Shawshank Redemption 4.5/5.0 2024.05.05 왓챠피디아 예상 별범 4.7점이었던 전설의 그 영화.. 많은 지인 분들에게 추천받았지만 극장에서 보고 싶어 안 본 눈을 간직했었는데 이번 재개봉으로 관람하게 되었다. 정식 재개봉 전 프리미어로 관람 후 포스터도 수령했다. 영화는 정말 좋았다. 인생의 끝으로 밀려난 사람이 절망하지 않고 오히려 더 희망적인 생각으로 주변 사람들마저 희망을 품게 하는 듀프레인의 모습과 그로 인해서 희망을 얻게 된 레드. 교도소라는 범죄자를 가두는 곳에서 그들을 이용하고 오히려 그들보다 독한 부패간수들의 모습 또한 인상적이었다. 아마 쇼생크 탈출 이후 등장한 교도소 관련 영화나 드라마는 이 영화에게 많은 영향을 받지 않았을까 싶다. 정말 좋은 영화였고 한 번 더 관람할 예정! #쇼생크탈출 #TheShawshankRedemption #팀로빈스 #모건프리먼 #TimRobbins #MorganFreeman #영화추천 #영화리뷰 #영화굿즈 #영화스타그램 #movies #왠아이맷무비

This month I am turning 30, and similarly so are many of our favourite movies! Let’s reminisce on some classics that are celebrating in 2024. So I have to admit that this is a first time watch for me. When selecting this anniversary series, there were too many greats amongst each other in 1994, so I chose one unfamiliar to me, and it ended up being fantastic. The Shawshank Redemption is emblematic of 1990’s filmmaking while showcasing a decades long tale that kept me captivated. I do love a period piece narrated by a supporting character. It feels reminiscent of other works around the time that felt triumphant in turn of pursuing true torture and despair. Andy and Ellis are truly iconic characters that despite their crimes I celebrated in their ending. I loved the score and directing, but the story delivered by the actors rings so true to me. Mission To Mars - BD Mediabook This is such a gorgeous Sci Fi movie, it’s a shame this can’t be found anywhere but in Germany. There’s no other physical version in HD quality of this movie anywhere else. And when I say it’s a Sci Fi movie I mean it. There’s no action, no violence, no chases or anything of that nature. The true spectacle in this movie is the actual science of it. And it’s beautifully shot by Brian De Palma. The music from Ennio Morricone evokes that old fashioned adventurous feeling when you thought of being an astronaut as a kid. My positive opinion and love for this movie must be so far off point, with the Tomatometer measuring a horrible 24% and an abysmal audience score of 30%. But it’s still a masterpiece for me, I can’t help it… I recently found this Mediabook in Germany and realized how long it has been since I watched this movie. Disney’s handling of their Buena Vista and Touchstone portfolio is so laughable, you can’t stop wondering why they’re leaving so much money on the table. I know there are a lot more fans of this movie. I’m surprised how a German distributor like Filmjuwelen and KirchMedia got ahold of this 1080p transfer (because the only other so called HD home media product was the dreaded French 1080i outing, which I heard was appalling. Image quality is better than expected and the DTS-HD Master 5.1 is spectacular at times. All the special features previously released on the DVD format are carried over and there’s even a short German feature about the movie. The design of the Mediabook is lovely. The Shawshank Redemption (1994) Andy Dufresne is sentenced to two life sentences after wrongfully convicted for the murder of his cheating wife and her lover. In prison, he uses his whits and past life as a successful banker to maneuver his way through his sentence. Along the way, he befriends Red, an older inmate continually denied release every ten years and experiences the brutality of a broken prison system. A rewatch for me, however I remember not much at all from my first viewing. Holds up surprisingly well and I can definitely recognize its influence in so much that came afterwards. I also wasn’t aware that it’s based off a Stephen King novella. Telling the story from the limited perspective of the side character added a lot to the suspense and was a great stand in for us. Also, was Morgan Freeman ever a young man? It’s kinda hard for me to not include spoilers for movies. A “rubber reality” film that messes with your perceptions of truth and also makes you equally wary of the US Government, Jacob’s Ladder (1990) may be a fictional movie, but it’s basically the reality of the countless amounts of people that were affected by MK Ultra. Thanks to the CIA we have such fun characters like Ted Kaczynski and Charles Manson, but we also got this incredible movie, so I guess it all evens out in the end. Jacob’s Ladder is not your standard horror movie, and really it plays more like a drama/mystery; however, the concept and the situation Jacob is put in effectively register as a horrifying experience. There’s nothing scarier than not being able to trust your own sense of reality and being constantly thrust back and forth between visions of Vietnam, your dead son, and head shaking demons with no face makes for a maddening experience. What’s makes this film work is the audience’s fixed perspective alongside Jacob as he tries to unravel why he can’t seem to stay in reality, and why it feels like these demons are after him. Is he going to hell? Or did the military experiment on him during his tour in Vietnam? Could it be both? Despite being a patented “wtf” movie, Jacob’s Ladder gives you just enough information to feel like you have a grasp on the narrative, and when the twist comes at the end, the whole movie makes sense and doesn’t leave you tilting your head wondering what it is you just watched. That being said, you can still go back and find plenty of new insights and easter eggs that will enrich your overall experience with the film. It’s the perfect combination of deep and accessible which can be so hard for films to achieve. Jacob’s Ladder is without a doubt a thinker, and it will stay with you after you watch it. Combine that with some very creative special effects and unique cinematography, and it becomes the type of film I plan on revisiting often, as it will always entertain but also enrich with each viewing: 8.5/10

The Shawshank Redemption- It's 1947 in Portland, Maine and banker Andy Dufresne is arriving at Shawshank State Prison to serve 2 life sentences for the murder of his wife and her lover, which he did not do. There he meets and is befriended by “Red Redding” a murderer serving a life sentence as well. Andy is routinely raped by “The Sisters”, a gang run by Bogs Diamond, and does his best to fight back and assimilate. One day Andy overhears the Captain of the Guards complaining about being taxed on an inheritance and Andy informs him that he will help him shelter the money legally. After another attack from The Sisters almost kills Andy, the Captain beats Bogs until he’s crippled and transferred to another prison. Andy is no longer attacked and now does the taxes and financials for most guards and even the Warden. But Andy’s not going to sit and be used, and he hatches a decades-long escape plan that pays off, as Andy tunnels out from his cell using a poster of (at the time) Raquel Welch to hide his activities. JasonLovesMuppets, Too here and growing up I was an avid reader of Stephen King, even if maybe I didn’t get all the subtleties of his works, I clearly understood them. I had an uncle that had all of King’s books and during summer break, I’d visit and spend hours reading them, and often my uncle would drop them off after he was done reading them. I read “Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption” from “Different Seasons” (Hope Springs Eternal) in the 80s and liked it but I was certainly more attracted to his scary stuff (Apt Pupil) and didn’t think much of it until the movie came out and I re-read it. It has, of course, at its heart a tale of friendship and hope that inspires but it has its King moments as well so it all evens out.
