Scott-Heron and Jackson recorded the album with the former’s backing ensemble, The Midnight Band. The album is an essential in every serious record collection. My morning in a nutshell. I’ve been really enjoying @ironandwinetour’s new album “Light Verse” since it came out last week! I spent this morning baking banana bread while spinning this record. This album feels like a lazy Sunday morning, even when it’s only Thursday. I was most surprised by the Fiona Apple feature on the second single—Beam and Apple make an unlikely pair but their voices compliment each other so nicely. What's your opinion on this classic southern hip hop album? Now, I don't know why I I haven't dedicated a post to this masterpiece yet... But here we are. "Home of the Free" it's one of my ABSOLUTE favorite southern hip hop albums of all time! I simply consider Al-D debut a southern magnum opus, a very deep, angry, painful, passionate work. Al-D is a historical member of the Screwed Up Click (rest in peace DJ Screw!) and a Houston legend. His lyrics are impressive to me, so real and painful, but it's the DJ Screw and Hitman production that steals the show on "Home of the Free". In my opinion this album reflects perfectly the southern hip hop Realness, its pain and its emotions. The beats, the soundscapes, the hooks, the lyrics, the overall atmosphere are so tremendously suffering to me. That's why I love "Home of the Free" and I rank it in my personal top 40 hip hop albums of 1995, even if I'm not a fan of screwed genre and 95' is my fave year ever in hip hop history. If there weren't less screw songs, probably it would be higher on my list. Anyway "Screw 1" is a little masterpiece exactly as Lost In The Hood, Let Me Blow, Can I See This, Who Am I 2 Look Up 2, Ghetto Child and Long Live 83rd, that are in my list of best southern rap songs ever! The Cure released their epic eighth studio album “Disintegration” #onthisday in 1989. 🥳🎶 This was my go to album summer of ‘89. It was the perfect soundtrack for bonfires and sunsets at the beach. Still is!! “Disintegration” became the band’s highest selling record. It turned them into a stadium band, selling out show after show. It’s also the album that almost ended them. Robert Smith says he never wanted the band to get as big as it did, yet there they were finding themselves performing in front of 50,000 people every show. It was difficult time for Smith, announcing after this tour, they would never tour again. Their previous album “Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me” was a commercial success full of upbeat songs. This time, the direction chosen was more moody and dark, a call back to there early 80’s work. Even with that switch in sound, the record still managed to bang out several hit singles: “Lullaby”, “Pictures of You”, “Love Song” and Fascination Street”. My deep cut picks are “The Same Deep Water As You”, “Closedown” and the title track. This is an absolutely no-skip album. Day 2 of #mayvinylchallenge: Album From a Show You Attended @unsaneband | Sterilize | @southernlordrecords Rarely do I randomly say to myself, “I feel like seeing some live music tonight. I wonder who’s playing in town” (I almost always make advance plans to go to a show), but that’s exactly what happened in this case. It was actually right around my birthday in 2018, and I decided I was going to take myself out to go see some bands, and lo and behold, Unsane was playing at the Empty Bottle in Chicago that night. I also hardly ever opt to go to a show by myself, but if I remember right, my wife wasn’t feeling well, so I flew solo that night. In short, the whole experience was unlike how I normally go about seeing shows, but Unsane was awesome, I had a great time, and I picked up this record on my way out. Judas Priest / Point Of Entry , 1981 CBS Holland Pressing 1981년 발표된 Judas Priest 의 통산 7번째 앨범으로 이들의 명작 British Steel (1980)과 Screaming for Vengeance (1982) 사이에 끼어 주목을 덜 받은 앨범이지만 파퓰러한 느낌의 정통 헤비메탈사운드를 들려주고 있는 앨범이라 할 수 있겠다. 음질로만 따지자면 사운드가 기존 앨범보다 나은게 Judas Priest가 본 앨범 제작을 위해 당시 최정상급의 녹음으로 유명했던 스페인의 Ibiza 스튜디오로 바리바리 장비들을 싸들고 가서 이들의 라이브 현장에서 느낄 수 있는 강력한 사운드를 실감할 수 있게 녹음했다고 한다. 앨범커버는 찐한 일몰의 느낌에 헤비메탈적인 느낌으로 wing이 뾰죽 솟아 있는 단순한 커버인데 맴버들은 이 커버를 정말 유치하다고 생각했다는 뒷이야기가 있다.
