Gary Holton - People In Love. Found this tonight, Gary of course is best known for being the lead singer of The Heavy Metal Kids & playing Wayne in the hit comedy series Auf Wiedersehen Pet. Sadly he was a recovering addict and died on 25.10.1985. He had played a diverse number of styles of music with various bands/projects having most of his success in Norway where he had a number one in a band called The Boys with a punk/country version of Kenny Rodger’s single Ruby Don’t Take Your Love To Town. This was his last single released posthumously on Gaza Records in 1986. Remembering Steve Albini. 🥀🥀🥀 Prior to posting this, I was looking at all of the albums he had produced over the years, and I have to be honest, I had no idea he had worked with a lot of British bands/artists over the years. I’m familiar with his works with Nirvana, The Jesus Lizard and the Pixies, but The Auteurs, PJ Harvey, the Manics, Jarvis Cocker and The Wedding Present were all a surprise. 61 is too young. What a huge loss to music. Soundtracks used to be awesome. Many, MANY years ago, I'd have a few great soundtracks in the car, and that's how I had a good selection of road trip music. The Crow, Singles, Trainspotting, Wayne's World, Romeo and Juliet, Natural Born Killers, Clueless, Empire Records. And Spawn. Spawn came along right when I was listening to a lot of Underworld and Chemical Brothers, so it fit really well. The collaborations between metal and electronic was pretty amazing, and proof that movie soundtracks were a bigger deal then. Pretty cool that RSD2024 included the vinyl premier for this one. Little Girl is the debut studio album by American garage rock band Syndicate of Sound. The Syndicate of Sound was an American garage rock band formed in San Jose, California that was active from 1964 to 1970. Little Girl was released in 1966 on Bell Records, BELL 6001. It blended both garage and psychedelic rock influences. The album was preceded by the single, “Little Girl”. Through their national hit “Little Girl”, the band developed a raw sound, and became forerunners in the psychedelic rock genre. After their single “Little Girl” rose up the charts to the number 8 position in summer of 1966, the Syndicate of Sound entered the studio to record an album. By the time of the album recording, Larry Ray had been replaced on lead guitar by Jim Sawyers. Half of the songs were penned by the group themselves, the remaining were covers from artists as diverse as The Hollies (I’m Alive), The Sonics (The Witch), Chuck Berry (Almost Grown) and Roy Orbison (Dream Baby). John Sharkey has stated that each of the band members picked a song to cover and then they added “Big Boss Man”, which was a regular part of their set-list. So here go… For “best and worst,” I chose ONE album (cos “Rumors” is simultaneously (and oxymoronically) both. Veruca Salt enters cos as a name, it is taken from a child in Charlie /Willy Wonka & the Chocolate factory wherein Violet is also a golden ticket holder (“You’re turning violet, Violet!”) ((plus yellow, on the traditional colour wheel’s opposite is violet, hence “Forsythia.”)) Now then… the drama… (I’ll assume we all know about Fleetwood Mac)… Veruca Salt had (FINALLY) released a second (full) album. “Shimmer like a Girl” (a Nina) was all over the radio and mtv. They were going to be the musical guests on SNL. I programmed the vcr to record it. Only “shutterbug” (a Louise song) was played. Apparently this is the moment when Veruca Salt FleetwoodMac-ed, which I would read in a blip when Nina’s solo album dropped. Devastating for me at the time! But yay!
