We restore and recone a lot of speakers. This small job had me stumped on a set of Acoustic Research AR5. Could not figure out why a perfectly centered voice coil would rattle when played. Took the driver completely apart and discovered this piece of shrapnel lightly caught in between the coil and the magnet wall. This woofer must have been playing like this for years! Luckily the coil was only lightly scored and passes signal perfect. (yesterday’s) evening vibes…I have things more or less to a functional state that I’m content enough with in this part of the home, though I continue shuffling some things about - but some larger projects exist on the horizon when motivation strikes. First, plan to hopefully knock out the false wall/mantle area and drywall it flush and install some custom Vitsoe shelving to house all my media/books/etc. From there, will pivot the Eames 2x2 into the dining area as a side board, where I also have some drywall refinishing to likely do, as well as finding a new dining set eventually, but I’m biding my time there til I find the right one. I also plan to reface the kitchen cabinets in some way at some point. I’m torn between just painting them or attempting to face the facades in a linoleum, or maybe some other third thing. I guess time will tell what happens there.
