Quando Glenn Hughes ingressou no Deep Purple em 1973, seu nome ficou, de imediato, famoso em todo o mundo. Mas, ao contrário de seu novo companheiro David Coverdale, que antes de responder a um anúncio da Melody Maker e passar a fazer parte do Purple tinha apenas experiência com grupos desconhecidos, Hughes não era nenhum novato. O baixista e vocalista, nascido em 21 de agosto de 1952 na cidade inglesa da Cannock, já havia impressionado meio mundo com a sua passagem pelo Trapeze, uma das melhores bandas de hard rock da primeira metade da década de 1970. O Trapeze surgiu em março de 1969 na cidade de Wolverhampton, Inglaterra. Seus fundadores foram o vocalista e trompetista John Jones e o guitarrista e tecladista Terry Rowley, responsável pelo nome do conjunto. Os dois haviam se conhecido em uma banda chamada The Montanas. 【No.174】『Gateway』 / John Abercrombie、Dave Holland、Jack DeJohnette 昨日はラグビー🏉リーグワン第16節(最終節)を迎え、我が埼玉パナソニックワイルドナイツは今シーズン全勝でリーグ戦を終えました。この後のプレーオフで王座奪還を目指しますよ！ さて約１か月振りでやはりこの方、ジャズ・ギターの匠、心の師匠ジョンアバークロンビーさんの登場です。ジョンさんについてはもうライフワークになりそうです笑。今回は名盤であり、かつ強敵な『Gateway』(1975年3月録音 ECMレーベル カタログNo1061)です。 なぜ、強敵なのか。まずメンバーです。ベースがデイブ・ホランドさん、ドラムスがジャック・ディジョネットさん。この二人は数年前まではマイルス・デイヴィス先生のバンドで大暴れしてた強者(今や巨匠)。この2人とのギタートリオですから強敵です。そして音楽の中身がやはりというか、想像以上に強力で、攻めまくっています。フリー・インプロビゼーション的側面超強めなのです。 実は私自身、もう何十年も前に本作を購入していた訳ですが、最初聴いた時は、ちょっと厳しくて理解できなかったですね。マイルス先生の『ビッチェズ・ブリュー』を初めて聴いた時と同じです。音楽がすんなり体に入ってこないんです。だからその後、本作は何年もずっと聴いてませんでした(冷汗)。ということで自分にとっては強敵なのです。 ジョンさんはこの前年の74年に初のリーダー作で名盤『タイムレス』(ECM レーベル、ヤン・ハマー(key)＋ジャック・ディジョネット(ds) 私のインスタ【No.105】参照)を録音しており、本作はECMでの第2弾的作品(日本では当初ジョンさんのリーダー作品としてリリースされましたが、実際は3人共同名義でしょう)。実はこの3人は本作録音の約1年前にジャックさん名義の『ソーサリー』(プレスティッジ)で一緒に録音していて、本作のジャックさん作6曲目はその時に演奏されたていた曲。この辺りの流れを把握してこの3人を再び引き合わせたのはひょっとするとECMの総帥、頑固親父のマンフレット・アイヒャーさんなのかもとも思ってしまいます。果たして結果は強敵ですが、素晴らしい演奏となりました。 私、本作がホント好きになったのはこの10年位です笑。ジョンさんを改めてしっかり聴こうとし出して、本作も何回か聴き直し続けたんです。いやー、これはいい作品なんですよ。実はデイブさん作の１曲目は本作の中ではノリが良くて1番聴きやすいカッコいい曲なんです。デイブさんの繰り返されるベースリフが実に心地よく、ボトムのジャックさんのドラムが定型ビートをキープしながらも刺激的なパルスを供給し続けて、その上でクリーントーンで自由に浮遊するジョンさんのギターが気持ちいいんです。 デイブさん、作曲能力高いです(本作1,2,3,5曲目はデイブさん作)。またデイブさんのベースも私、好きなんです。理由を上手く説明できませんが、音が太くて、1音1音に迷いがなく、どんな演奏の中でも安定しているので、フリーフォーム的な中でも彼がいると締まるんです。本作でもその力が存分に発揮されていますね。 この1曲目のノリを期待していくとその後の曲達は特にクセ強めの演奏(テーマも分かりにくくて、ほとんど3人(曲によって2人)が同時インプロビゼーション的演奏～2,5曲目はスローな演奏ですけど)なのでより強敵という訳です。しかし、心を開放して何回か聴き進めていけば少しずつ光が見えてきます。 ジャックさんのドラムの強烈さやジョンさんの攻め攻めのギターが気持ちよくなってくるんです。しかしここでのジョンさんのギターはたまに見せるメランコリー的側面は封印されて、とにかく攻めますねー。4曲目とか特に物凄いです。本質はメランコリーなのにジミヘンのように？弾けた演奏もやってしまうので、ジョンさんにはホント参ってしまう訳です。 音楽というのは不思議なものです。初めは気に入らなくても、ある時に急に好きになったりします。宝物を見つけた感じになります。実はかなりの未開封CDが依然あって減りません。お宝が眠っているかと思うとつい慎重に？なります。死ぬまでに聴けるだろうか笑!? 完全開封目指します笑。 ※本作の添付曲が無く、さみしいのでジャックさんとのソロの応酬的な意味で大好きな曲「Four On One」(『Night』【No.115】)参照)を参考に？添付しておきました。 #gateway #johnabercrombie #daveholland #jackdejohnette #majaweber #milesdavislive #jazzguitar #ecmrecords #loveguitar #music #lovemusic #jazz #lovejazz #cdcollection #jazzkissa #cdコレクション #音楽のある生活 #音楽のある暮らし #音楽のある風景 #ジャズ #ジャズ好き #音楽好き #ジャズ喫茶 #rugbylove #パナソニックワイルドナイツ #givepeaceachance

Judas Priest / Point Of Entry , 1981 CBS Holland Pressing 1981년 발표된 Judas Priest 의 통산 7번째 앨범으로 이들의 명작 British Steel (1980)과 Screaming for Vengeance (1982) 사이에 끼어 주목을 덜 받은 앨범이지만 파퓰러한 느낌의 정통 헤비메탈사운드를 들려주고 있는 앨범이라 할 수 있겠다. 음질로만 따지자면 사운드가 기존 앨범보다 나은게 Judas Priest가 본 앨범 제작을 위해 당시 최정상급의 녹음으로 유명했던 스페인의 Ibiza 스튜디오로 바리바리 장비들을 싸들고 가서 이들의 라이브 현장에서 느낄 수 있는 강력한 사운드를 실감할 수 있게 녹음했다고 한다. 앨범커버는 찐한 일몰의 느낌에 헤비메탈적인 느낌으로 wing이 뾰죽 솟아 있는 단순한 커버인데 맴버들은 이 커버를 정말 유치하다고 생각했다는 뒷이야기가 있다. MILES DAVIS / HERMES : COMPLETE WEDNESDAY MILES - DEFENITIVE COLLECTION (2CD) [The BOOTLEG SERIES Minus 1 / MD-HRMS] 100セット限定紙ジャケ ￥4900 Recorded Live at Fillmore East, New York City, NY, June 17 (Wednesday), 1970 * 第一章 * 『コンプリート・ウェンズデイ・マイルス』 1970年電気で武装したジャズの帝王マイルス・デイヴィスは満を持して“ロックの殿堂”フィルモア・イーストに降り立ちました。チック・コリアのフェンダー・ローズ、キース・ジャレットの電子オルガンを両脇に携え、デイヴ・ホランドのエレクトリック・ベースと、ジャック・デジョネットの手数の多いロック・ドラミングが後ろから睨みを効かせ、アイアートがパーカッションで小技を繰り出し、ロック・ミュージックに耳の肥えたフィルモアのファンを魅了したのです。幾度となく行われたコンサートの中から現在でも名盤として人気を博している『マイルス・アット・フィルモア・イースト』が生まれたわけですが、このアルバムは1970年の6月17日から20日にかけて（水曜日から土曜日にかけて）行われた4日間の演奏を、テオ・マセロがそれぞれ日にちごとに編集し曜日に因んでそれぞれ『Wednesday Miles』『Thursday Miles』『Friday Miles』『Saturday Miles』と銘打ち作り上げられたもの。つまりそれぞれの曜日ごとで演奏を切り貼り編集し一曲として練り上げられたトラックがそれです。今回登場のアイテムはこの中の初日にあたる水曜日の演奏『Wednesday Miles』を、テオ・マセロによるメスが入る前のライヴ音源、つまり当日行われたセットリスト通り全ての演奏を収録しているというわけです。「ほお、それはすごい！」と思うかもしれませんが、ここまでは「それほどすごくありません」。何故ならこういった趣旨のタイトルはコレクターズ・アイテムとして過去にも出回り、更にそれに終止符を打つべくオフィシャルで『ブートレグ・シリーズ』まで登場したからです。「え？じゃあ“そんなにすごくない”どころか無用の長物なのでは、、」となっていただき、ここまでで今回登場のアイテムを紹介する下地ができたわけです。 * 第二章 * 『水星神エルメス』 今回登場の決定盤『エルメス』は、独自に入手した正真正銘のマルチトラック・テープを使用したマイルスの名門“SO WHAT”レーベルのマスター（これがコレクターズ界では最高点）が土台となっています。そこから更に音圧調整とチャプター位置の修正が行われています。従ってコレクターズ・アイテムとして最高到達点であることは間違いありません。では「オフィシャルの『ブートレグ・シリーズ』と戦って勝ち目があるのか？」となるわけですが、正直、勝ちます。『ブートレグ・シリーズ』の音質は、オフィシャルにありがちですがソフィスティケイトされすぎているきらいがあり、音像の広がりはややこぢんまり、音圧も奇麗すぎてバンドの迫力がイマイチ伝わってこないのです。更にステレオ音源として致命的なことにチック・コリアとキース・ジャレットの配置が逆です（『ブートレグ・シリーズ』を購入した一ファンとしてガッカリしました）。『エルメス』の音像はやや強調的にチックとキースを左右に広がり音圧も上がって迫力満点。当然両鍵盤奏者の配置も正しくなっています。更に『ブートレグ・シリーズ』には収録されていない演奏前3分に及ぶバンドのウォーミング・アップや、終演後の会場に流れるS.E.まで収録。また更にディスク2は、サウンド・エフェクト等行っていない生々しいオルタネイト・ヴァージョンを収録。こちらは鑑賞用と言うよりメンバーがどんな演奏をしていたのかが丸裸になる史料的価値が計り知れないお宝ディスクです。これが帯付きの見開き紙ジャケット仕様に収められ、もはや文句の付けようが無い最強コレクションとなっています。 以下余談ですが、「『エルメス』て何ぞや？高級バッグかね」と言う人のために。昔の人々は天に輝く太陽、月、そして惑星になぞらえる形で曜日名を決めました。日本では水星に因んで水曜日。古代ギリシャで水星に宛がわれたギリシャ神話の神がエルメスです。 ご購入はこちら https://www.beatnikgroove.com/?pid=180705167 店舗でも販売中。 ご来店お待ちしております。 東京都杉並区西荻南2-7-6 03-6337-2066 西荻窪駅から徒歩5分 月曜日定休（祝日の場合は営業） 店舗情報(レコード情報)はX(旧twitter)で随時更新中です。 https://twitter.com/BeatnikGroove #milesdavis #stevegrossman #chickcorea #keithjarrett #daveholland #jackdejohnette #airtomoreira #jazz #beatnikgroove #ビートニクグルーヴ #西荻窪

Miles Davis playing “Bitches Brew” Live on the 4th of November, 1969 at the Tivoli in Copenhagen, Denmark Very few artists are capable of undergoing the stylistic and artistic reinvention Miles Davis went through towards the end of the ‘60s. In a span of just two years, Miles completely reinvented his sound and successfully accomplished a feat that many tried and failed over the years, which was reinvention. With each record that was released following the breakup of his “Second Great Quintet”, you can hear him slowly evolving in a manner that would eventually climax with this record. Towards the end of the decade, his evolution reached a point where the fusion side of the music superseded the traditional and that was the point where “Bitches Brew” slowly began to come to life. With each track on this record, it’s evident that Miles wished to replace the more rigid and traditional styles of Jazz with something looser, and free. In a way, this is one of the many reasons why “Bitches Brew” is such a spectacular record. Rather than being confined to a composition, the songwriter has created, each member of the band gets to incorporate their own talent by contributing to the song. All of the music on this record was birthed in the summer of 1969, when Miles had written simple chord lines, at first for three pianos, which he expanded into a sketch of a larger scale composition. He presented the group with some “musical sketches” and told them they could play anything that came to mind as long as they play off of his chosen chord.
