The Fall Guy is directed by David Leitch and stars Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt in an action comedy that acts as a love letter to stunt men and women. It’s about a stuntman who gets caught up in a crazy criminal scheme after returning to his craft after a major injury. The Fall Guy is a lot of fun, and a rare original summer movie meant to be seen on the big screen. The Good: Ryan Gosling is lightning in a bottle. His charisma and wry humor carries this film. He is hands down the stand out, accompanied by his great chemistry with Emily Blunt who plays a strong, functional role. This movie is chock full of fun, incredibly well done stunt work, and lots of industry in-jokes that will land with the most dedicated film fans. The laughs hit most of the time, and it’s wildly entertaining. It takes every opportunity to salute the unsung hero’s of a film set, which resonated with me as a viewer. The Bad: While the script was original, it’s still felt awfully derivative. It even makes reference to many films it pays homage to, clearly self aware of its own faults. I think the climactic end scene went on a bit too long, and felt like a hat on a hat. Hannah Waddingham and Aaron Taylor Johnson really ham this up, and it often doesn’t work. In all, The Fall Guy is a lot of fun and definitely worth the watch. I think entertainment industry people and cinephiles will be able to connect with this movie on a deeper level, but truly, it’s got something for everyone. 7/10

Not horror but I do like Emily Blaunt and was a fan of the original 80’s TV series so I had to give this a go. Didn’t realise Hannah waddingham was in it but she is amazing as always. Plus an awesome soundtrack. Yes, you can see every plot twist coming from a mile away but that’s all on purpose. That’s because the film is not taking itself seriously (in the best possible way) while still making it look amazing in every aspect of filmmaking. The Fall Guy is a movie that I was not excited to see whatsoever, and I suppose that it did surpass my expectations. I actually really enjoyed the first half of this film. However, the second half of this film is pretty much exactly the generic action film that I was expecting. The First half is genuinely very well shot and edited with great and creative action, and is also very funny. The Second half, I found to be bland and uninspired, and really just sank my enjoyment of the film. The Fall Guy is at its best when it serves as an ode to stunt performers and the under appreciated work that they do in film. Additionally, Ryan Gosling is perfect in his role, and Emily Blunt is very good as well, and I really bought into their relationship. In conclusion, if you are looking for a fun time in the theater then you will probably like The Fall Guy a decent bit. However, for me it felt like I was being given something elevated above the average action film, only for the film to transition into yet another generic action flick that has populated the mainstream. 📽 The Fall Guy : 7/10 C’était l’une des sorties cinés de mai que j’attendais le plus et je n’ai pas été déçu. Même si "The Fall Guy" est loin d’être le film de l’année, notamment à cause de son scénario léger, il n’en reste pas moins divertissant. Dès le départ, on sait où le long-métrage de David Leitch veut nous emmener. On plonge ainsi avec délice dans un spectacle d’action parodique avec des cascades à gogo maîtrisées à la perfection. Ryan Gosling tient son rôle avec panache et son duo avec de charme avec Emily Blunt fonctionne à merveille. La bande originale est également un régal et si à la fin, on en a un peu marre d’entendre et de réentendre "I Was Made For Lovin' You" de Kiss - j’aime ce morceau, mais trop, c’est trop -, j’ai adoré le clip-show "All Too Well" de Taylor Swift (qui est quelque peu comique). Bref, "The Fall Guy" joue savamment sur son côté kitch sans jamais se perdre en route. Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt are phenomenal in this film, their chemistry is next level, one of the best couples I’ve seen in a Rom-com for a while, the opening scene in a one shot is so well put together and you get everything you need to know about their relationship in 2 minutes. The supporting cast also delivers, Winston Duke, Hannah Waddingham & Aaron Taylor Johnson are all excellent, with ATJ doing his best Matthew Mcconaughey impression. The film pays loving tribute to the hard work of stunt performers, and their under appreciated roles in film making. I’ve seen others throw the it’s not that realistic as a film set, and whilst I understand that for the seen where Emily Blunt keeps setting Ryan on fire, I think that’s an unfair criticism in the whole. Overall, I think it’s a terrific film and one that’ll be up in my top films come December. It’s full of heart, great comedy, exceptional chemistry and superb action set pieces. They really don’t make film like this anymore, gone it on the big screen. Trama: Uno stuntman indaga sulla scomparsa dell’attore protagonista del film che stanno girando. Il film è un thriller-action-comedy, ispirato alla serie tv “Professione Pericolo”. Attraverso una produzione metacinematografica di alto livello, il regista mette in scena una storia ibrida composta da elementi presi da diversi generi pur con la componente action visivamente dominante. La storia di uno stuntman è la storia di tanti colleghi che, in barba al pericolo, rendono possibile la realizzazione di film pericolosi per la loro incolumità. Uno stuntman che si ritrova invischiato in un complotto legato alla scomparsa dell’attore principale, con scene d’azione adrenaliniche e maestose. E’ proprio la maestosità, unita ad una evidente ironia, a rende il film apprezzabile e divertente, pur con evidenti limiti dovuti alle esagerazioni e a certe situazioni paradossali. Un kolossal autoironico e celebrativo di tale portata si regge interamente sulle abilità attoriali di Ryan Gosling il quale, grazie alla capacità di fondere recitazione comica e drammatica senza andare sopra le righe, eclissa tutti gli altri protagonisti, eccetto Emily Blunt la quale è anche l’interesse amoroso del protagonista. I legami con la serie tv sono quasi assenti, individuabili probabilmente nella parte in cui Colt indaga sulla scomparsa di Tom. Such a fun movie! Great concept, excellent action sequences and two very charismatic leads. It’s not heavy lifting by any means, but it’s quite entertaining.

The Fall Guy 2024 Initial Rating: 8/10 I have seen most of the films David Leitch has directed. Not due to some form of fanatical support, they all just seem fun! Guy knows how to make a fun action comedy. Only miss might be Hobbs & Shaw, but I'm not going to criticize that without watching it. And I'm certainly not gonna watch it. The Fall Guy is about a stunt guy who has to investigate a disappearance on the set of the movie he's working on, which is directed by his ex. It does a lot well, and the places if falters don't take away from how fun this movie is. This is very much carried by Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt. Gosling in particular carries most scenes, he was a perfect cast for this character. The action is as stunt heavy as you'd expect, and I mostly thought it was pretty cool. The comedy landed pretty frequently throughout as well, which is neat. My biggest gripe is that the plot doesn't do anything particularly special, and also goes a bit beyond believability at times. There's also a specific scene where they discuss shooting a oner in the fake movie being shot within this movie. Then that scene (as shown in this movie) was not a oner! Idk if you followed that, but I was peeved. The Fall Guy is a fun movie. It's not groundbreaking or anything, but it kept me entertained for its whole runtime, which is all I think is fair to ask of an action comedy.
