47.365 The Garfield Movie (2024) [Only in Theatres] @prattprattpratt has become synonymous with voicing popular characters in animated movies. He did a spectacular job in The Lego Movie, then he did a not so great job with Mario and now, he takes up Garfield, the lasagna obsessed orange tabby cat. A character, whose live-action/CGI adaptation few years back bombed big time. The latest fully animated version is better but has it's issues. Garfield recounts the story of how he was abandoned by his father and got adopted by John. Years later, father & son are forced to reunite for a heist due to his father's past misdeeds. The biggest problem with this Garfield movie is that it's titular character is sidelined for most part. He is onscreen but the limelight is on everyone else. @samuelljackson , who voices Vic (Garfield's estranged dad), Hannah Waddingham as the evil cat, Ving Rhames as the bull and Brett Goldstein as the henchman dog have more memorable screen presence than Garfield. Having said that, the movies isn't all bad as there is a lot to like. Some of the jokes land, the songs are good and Garfield as a kitten will melt your heart. All in all, The Garfield Movie isn't cut out to be Pratt's Mario movie of this year. I personally did not like either that much. If you were hoping this movie would be more than what it offers on the surface, you’ll be disappointed. As expected from the promotional material, this is an animated comedy that is directed primarily towards children. It has decent themes but generally it’s just two hours of bright colors & loud noises to keep young minds occupied. There’s the structure for a heart-felt story with potential at times, but the execution holds it to merely serviceable. While I didn’t care for this movie as a whole, I do have to admit that there are a handful of moments that I did genuinely enjoy. This is the first time I can recall thinking of Odie as not only a valuable character but a likable one as well. The third act has some fun with some imaginative action. Cecily Strong seems to have an absolute blast in her limited role. There’s also something pleasing about having Ving Rhames explain the plan for a heist while the Mission: Impossible theme music plays in the background. Even some of the bizarre product placement stood out as memorable. Olive Garden makes sense for a film like this, but I did not expect to have Tinder Plus advertised to me during this movie. As for the controversial casting of Chris Pratt as the voice of the titular character, I have no real opinion. He’s not great, but he also in no way ever serves as a distraction. . CHICKEN LITTLE There are times where one thinks that things are done without love. Without care. Without passion. This animated film fits into those situations, since the final result is visually horrible and very boring as far as the story is concerned. The character design is terrible, there are no textures anywhere, the contrasts are inadequate, the movement dynamics make everything uncomfortable to watch, and the saddest thing of all is that the story blatantly lacks originality. And don't tell me all this is because CGI animation was developing in the 2000s. By the time this film was released, there were already Shrek 1 and 2, which have everything that this film lacks. I don't recommend this movie to any family looking for entertaining afternoons watching something on the screen. I have been a fan of Garfield all my life. I owned numerous books (even the Garfield's Pet Force series) and had a stuffed Garfield that I slept with as a kid. Heck, I even saw the first Bill Murray Garfield movie in theaters. That said, The Garfield Movie (2024) is fine. The plot is okay even if it's not exactly all that connected to the original comics. The voice acting is good, but nobody will ever outdo Lorenzo Music's iteration of Garfield. He was perfect. I did love Hannah Waddingham's song. Ważne jest w tym wszystkim to, że ten obraz wcale nie jest zły. Głównym zarzutem, do którego natomiast jest się, co przyczepić to scenariusz autorstwa Paula A. Kaplana i Davida Reynoldsa. Zabrakło mi w nim bowiem więcej oryginalność, dlatego że produkcja porusza się wobec znanego schematu zaczerpniętego z pewnego serialu animowanego a mianowicie ,,Pingwinów z Madagaskaru”. Występuje dużo podobieństw, jednak ze względu na to, że ten szablon działa, to i nawet w historii o pomarańczowym kocie nie powoduje znudzenia. Będąc w obrębie minusów napomknę jeszcze na to, że można było pokazać cały tydzień z życia Garfield’a, oprócz nieszczęsnych poniedziałków, których nie lubi. Jednak, żeby nie skupiać się wyłącznie na wadach, to teraz o plusach, do których zdecydowanie należy zaliczyć humor. Wpasowuje się w otoczenie filmu i w umiejętny sposób go dekoruje. Drugą zaletą jest świetnie wykorzystana muzyka z takich produkcji, jak ,,Mission: Impossible” i ,,Top Gun” oraz nawiązanie do Toma Cruise’a. Co do formy animacji, to jest wykonana naprawdę przyzwoicie. Całość pomimo zawierającej w sobie prostoty, to dobrze się ją oglądało. Emily and I saw "The Garfield Movie" today and we both loved it! It was a fun and cute family friendly film with surprising amount of heart too! The film had plenty of humor and more action than I ever thought I’d see in a Garfield movie! Emily was also happy to get some more tie-in theater merchandise which featured baby Garfield on cup and a little popcorn bucket! It was a fun time at the movies together! Ok time for another movie theaters this Saturday! For today we are checking out "The Garfield Movie" the first fully animated Garfield movie to be released in theaters! Emily and I have always loved Garfield whether it be from the old comic strip or the classic cartoons throughout the years! It’s hard not to love everyone’s favorite lazy lasagna eating house cat! Ever since the first trailer for this film dropped and they showed Garfield as a baby my girlfriend absolutely fell in love with his look and from that moment we knew we were going to go out and see this movie in theaters! It feels nice to see another classic character such as Garfield getting some recognition again! I will always have a place classic characters like this in my life! The Garfield Movie was directed by Mark Dindal and stars Chris Pratt, Samuel L. Jackson, Hannah Waddingham, Ving Rhames, Nicholas Hoult, Cecily Strong, Harvey Guillen, Bowen Yang and Snoop Dogg. After Garfield's unexpected reunion with his long-lost father, ragged alley cat Vic, he and his canine friend Odie are forced from their perfectly pampered lives to join Vic on a risky heist. Okay, so going into this film, I didn't have that many high hopes. When I saw that Chris Pratt was voicing the fat cat, I had mixed thoughts, just like I did before I watched The Super Mario Bros. Movie last year. He was surprisingly not as bad as I thought he'd be as Mario. But as Garfield, a grumpy cat who just hates Mondays and loves lasagne? Nope. As much as I love Chris Pratt, he shouldn't have been cast as Garfield in a film that's already not good. Yep, unfortunately The Garfield Movie isn't the best animated film. Wait, one thing I've noticed is that recently, since Columbia Pictures 100th anniversary, the films haven't been memorable. I hated Madame Web (didn't everyone?), I wasn't a huge fan of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire and now we can add The Garfield Movie to that list. I'm sorry guys, I just didn't like this one. There was the odd joke here and there that made me let out a small giggle, but that's it. And that was during the end credits when they were showing cat videos. I'm a sucker for those videos man, and they were easily the best part of the film. Like I said before, Chris Pratt was so miscast as Garfield, I didn't buy him as Garfield, and I much preferred Bill Murray as Garfield, even though Bill Murray himself regrets being in that one. If you've seen Zombieland, you'll know that Bill Murray hated working on it. If I had to pick someone to play Garfield, I'd pick either Nick Offerman or maybe Keith Scott, you know the guy who voiced Bullwinkle in the Rocky and Bullwinkle movie. Either one of those two would have been better than Chris Pratt. Hell, bring Timothee Chalamet as Garfield if you want. No disrespect to Chris Pratt obviously. (cont. in comments)

Sketch of the day: GARFIELD Since having kids, I’ve become painfully aware of how few theatrical releases are appropriate for preschoolers, so we’re thrilled that tonight we’re going to The Garfield Movie. It will be only my second time taking the kids to the movies, and I couldn’t be more excited - mostly because it was directed by Mark Dindal of The Emperor’s New Groove. I got to meet Mark (and the late and legendary Randy Fullmer) when I was working at Disney, and my big brother worked for the story department on Groove for years. Mark also directed Cats Don’t Dance for Turner, which is just an amazing little film that is still stuck in my head thirty years later. #thegarfieldmovie is finally out in theaters today, got the chance to check an early screening last Sunday and it went decently than I expected. Maybe not the best in Sony’s recent animated offerings, but this feature went a lot better than the live action or straight to dvd films in the past. Even with an unoriginal story and a rushed first act, it still manages to provide some fast pace visuals, lovely art direction, intense action, cleaver dialogue, a solid voice cast, @johndebney work on the score, an exciting 3rd act, and stays true to #jimdavis original creations. Overall, congrats to #markdindal and the entire team at @dneganimation #alconentertainment for making a worthwhile experience that families are to enjoy during Memorial Day weekend!!! 🍝🧡🧡🧡✌️

#TheGarfieldMovie Movie Review (3/5): In a quiet summer patiently awaiting the likes of sure-to-be powerhouse hits #InsideOut2 and #DespicableMe4, this animated #Garfield reboot serves more as an appetizer to the main course. Tasty in its pure intentions, none-the-less. Sure. There probably wasn’t much demand for another revisiting of this IP to even exist. A current #RottenTomatoes critics consensus of 38% would have you assuming the worst. Though “The Garfield Movie” would likely fair a much better #FathersDay weekend option for the entire family, given the whole father/son dynamic, I enjoyed what I’d seen more than expected. #ChrisPratt and #SamuelLJackson make a fun comedic voice acting duo. Their chemistry flows in an incredibly easy to digest story that’ll have all audiences alike laughing and smiling in equal doses. Director #MarkDindal, infamous for his 2005 box office smash #ChickenLittle and other various animation work for #Disney, this is one of the breeziest 100-or-so minutes you’re likely to experience in a theater this year. Anyone familiar with the wild antics of the famed fat orange cat will get just enough nostalgia out of its fast-paced simple script. As a reboot, a screenplay penned by three writers could’ve faired Garfield more of a staying reason for being reinvented to modern times. However, much of the films charm comes from how uncomplicated the really narrative is. There’s no real overt political undertones. “The Garfield Movie” isn’t striving to be more than this light, yet frequently funny, adventure with some decent bits of emotion thrown in. Kids and their parents will instantly fall in love with an adorable Baby Garfield from its opening scene. The animation style, also supported by Dindal ‘s own character designs, is colorful and warmly inviting. Colourful, simplistic and detailed animations, a heartfelt theme and classic narrative structure, and this adventurous and sarcastically comic undertone make ‘The Garfield Movie’ a fine cinematic adaptation that woefully bears more visual resemblance to the source material rather than in terms of storytelling. Nevertheless, regardless of its lack of suspense, reliance on exposition, forced character development, all-over-the-place humour, and rather tame atmosphere, the film offers enjoyment but hardly enough. . The Garfield Movie is competently animated and the character designs from Jim Davis’ comic strip are effectively translated from 2D into 3D. It mostly plays things safe, resulting in an inoffensive and generic animated movie that feels dated in its humour and an overreliance on the big names in its voice cast. Chris Pratt sounds too energetic in the title role, making him not the best match for the famously laidback character.
