Kung Fu Panda 4 is fun but doesn’t really live up to the others imo, and is easily the weakest and least memorable of the 4. Not featuring the Furious 5 in a speaking role was a real bummer and it really felt like the film was missing their presence, instead we get Awkwafina as a thief who teams up with Po, who’s not as annoying as I thought she’d be, she’s actually pretty okay? But she’s no furious 5. Viola Davis plays the villain who while fine isn’t as memorable as the villains from the first 3 movies, it’s not Violas fault it’s more she’s a bit underwritten. There’s defo fun to be had, I liked the two gay dads teaming up - and still some really fun gags like the bull in the china shop. The action still remains well done, I liked the Go-Po stuff, it still feels interesting and cool. For me this lands on… just okay, I’d watch again but it just didn’t hit like the others. 6 dinner with peas/10

A muddled confusing film. A messy plot that’s all over the shop, that seems to take forever to get going as we flip back and fourth between one too many characters, why was Bill Murray there, what did he do? Or the podcast kid, why did he need to come back? Celeste O’Connor also returning from Afterlife gets zero to do and barely feels like a character, more like the filmmakers felt obligated to have her return. The film gets bodged down in new mythology and nostalgia bait as Dan Ackroyd stops mid chase in the same library from the first to see the same ghost from the opening of the first, who I guess has just been hanging out there since the 80s? McKenna Grace is the major standout but she’s benched for being only 15, which I guess makes sense - but also means she’s feels like she’s off to the side quite a lot, and is reduced to falling for the old bait and switch as she’s accidentally helps the villain. Carrie Coon who I love barely feels like a character. Ghost busting feels like it barely takes place aside from a fun opening and the final battle. There’s very little fun to be had in a film with a lack of focus that’s overstuffed with too much plot and too many characters. What once amounted to an extended comedy skit has now become a series about legacy and heritage, this isn’t sopposed to be this great Avengers/Star Wars type franchise - it was just a goofy silly comedy. Also despite retuning to New York it didn’t really feel like a character in this one, where in the original the texture and the feel of New York feel so integral to the film and so much a part of it, this one completely misses that, maybe because Frozen Empire was shot in bloody London. As someone thought Afterlife was just okay, this one is even worse. 4 unnecessary callbacks/10
Absolute nonsense movie. Jeff Wadlow strikes again. What seems like an intriguing premise is just diluted into stupid schlock. A messy convoluted plot, imaginary friends are real, sort of? They’re tethered to spirits in another world I guess? But someone’s become violent if you ditch from them because of trauma? Is that about right? Oh and the child also needs to do a ritual to open up a door to the imaginary world. Yikes. The movie gets more and more silly and more and more convoluted as the actors try their best with this awful material, but my favourite character was the neighbour who popped up for some exposition dumps and then turned out to be evil for reasons I can’t quite explain. I also loved the husband who had zero chemistry with DeWanda Wise, in the first act he suddenly is going on tour, not a single mention of this beforehand he just goes and is not seen again apart from as an evil version of him in the imaginary world, sure I guess. Speaking of said imaginary world, you’ve got a world where anything can be created and it’s some dark corridors with a few clouds and some doors, ya’ll couldn’t do something a little more creative? The movies stinks and only gets worse as it goes along, with baffling character decisions and the stereotypical stuck up teenage daughter. The movie would have been a little better had it committed to its dark “twist” ending, but they even go back on that. Next time imagine a better film. 3 absent husbands/10

This is not Miami. The original Art Deco gem, the Odeon Cinema is located in South London in the borough of Beckenham. The grade II listed building opened on 22nd September 1930 as a Regal Cinema. Among the facilities on offer were a fully equipped stage, a ballroom, a restaurant located on the ground floor and a Wurlitzer Model F 2Manual/8Rank theatre organ. It was operated by County Cinemas and in 1936 was taken over by the Union Cinemas chain. It was later an ABC Cinema for many years and closed in November 1978 for conversion into a triple screen cinema. The balcony remained intact as Screen 1 with a seating capacity of 587 which re-opened on 21st December 1978. Odeon Cinemas Group took control in 2000 and proposed plans to convert the building into six screens. There was some controversy over the conversion of the ballroom into an extra screen, as this contained a great deal of the original Art Deco decoration and stained-glass windows. The conversion went ahead and the six screen Odeon re-opened on 19th September 2001. The former ballroom is now Screen 2 with 207 seats, although a lot of the original decorative details have been retained, they are covered over. Screen 5 is located in the former front stalls area, using the original proscenium opening, and seats 207. Screen 6, also seating 207 is located on the former stage. The former restaurant is now an extension of the foyer and is used as a coffee bar. Missed this in it’s an initial release, it only played for a week but managed to catch it on silver screen with the old folks. This is a perfectly enjoyable Sunday after type fair. An engaging enough story but nothing too complicated or out there, it hits all the familiar beats you’d expect from this sort true story sports team movie. With a cast of characters I can’t really remember and thinly written girlfriend and surprise appearance from Hitler, this did the job when watching but I’ll probably never see it again. 6 boys / 10 boats.
So great to see Soul on the big screen, really think Disney made a mistake putting this straight to Disney+, could have held it till 2021 for a theatrical release. A great movie, love that it’s about making the most of life, how one big moment isn’t going to be change your world - appreciate the little things and what you have around you. Feels in a lot of ways like a sister film to Inside Out, similar what not being exactly the same. It’s such a great concept, I love its take on the afterlife and all the different interesting concepts they sprinkle in like being in the zone. The voice cast is great and Graham Norton? Babe what are you doing here? I love the idea that 22 doesn’t really understand the big deal with Earth until she actually physically experiences it, like yeah that’s how a lot of things work. And the end ing? Beautiful. 9 music teachers/10

Right, this is very much overdue! I went to see this wonderful new Vegan Documentary with my friends in London on the 10th of April but my friend who I did the last review with has been incredibly busy planning an international trip! I wanted to make sure this film got the attention it deserved, and I didn't just want to do a review on my own, so I waited to see if any of my other friends might see it and if I could ask one of them to do it with me. Fortunately they did, and the wonderful @thevegilante (who I am very fortunate to call my friend) went to see it last night! She reached out to me and told me, along with some other fun things, and I asked her if she wanted to do a review with me! So we did! We don't chat as much as we should—and Sossa is Sossa—so we did spend a lot of time tangentially bouncing to other stuff but I think we covered everything we wanted to say about the film. I really enjoyed this film, I think Tom and James have done an amazing job making it, and I think it is an amazing piece of media to advocate for veganism. I really do hope people decide to go watch it, I am sorry we didn't get this out to promote it earlier, but it should be coming to Odeon theatres and various other platforms in the near future. Well that's how they think it will happen, easy peasy... But little do they know she's a vicious little vampire who likes to play with her food! Now I won't give much away as it's just been released but I thought it was brilliant! Such a good blend of comedic moments and bloody gore moments, the acting was brilliantly done and the cast worked so well with each other, the scenes equally had you laughing one minute and in disbelief the second. The storyline was pretty much straight forward and got into things rather quickly which kept me really engaged but I would like to of known a little more about Abigail - more of a back story! It's a really good vampire flick and I'll definitely be watching it again, also loved Melissa Barrera's character I think anything she plays a role in is always done so perfectly and hats off to the young lady Alisha Weir on executing her Abigail character - she was so convincing at portraying the sweet but sinister little vamp! This is cute little fun movie, like a throwback to the 80s, with sort of Tim Burton/Heathers vibes. Kathyrn Newton is delightful and it’s clear why her star is on the rise. I sort of wish the resurrection of Cole Sprouse hadn’t just been random and had been Newton longing for some sort of connection, so she resurrects one - I felt it just seemed too out of the blue. On the other I did enjoy that they went against the mean step sister troupe and Taffy was actually really nice. I think this a perfectly enjoyable movie, clearly very over the top and silly - with our heroes going on a murder spree and using the a tanning bed to reconstruct Sprouse, and while fun, it just didn’t quite hit like I hoped, I felt it could have been funnier and had a bit more bite to it. 6 undead boyfriends/10

A hint of campiness could have elevated Clarence, allowing Stanfield’s talent to shine more. Despite the narrative shortcomings, ‘The Book of Clarence’ excels in technical aspects. The production design is a standout achievement, transforming Italian landscapes into a convincing biblical Jerusalem. Andrew Scott 😍 Claire Foy 😍 This film was so good, dealing trauma and loss but also playing around with sci-fi-ish elements. The difficulty of letting go, Andrew Scott’s character having to move on from his parent’s death and how difficult that can be was really gorgeous and well done. The acting was terrific and I loved the interaction between Adam and parents, both moving and sweet, Including them asking if he was married or had a girlfriend, and his mums reaction to finding out he’s gay. There’s also a love story at the heart of the film that’s really beautiful but ends up being quite sad, but I think the reveal at the about Harry went over my head a bit, while I understand physically what was going on, I think story wise I don’t really understand what it meant. Perhaps a second viewing is in order. It’s on Disney + in the U.K. and I think Hulu stateside so well worth a watch if you haven’t seen it yet. 8 ghost parents/10

📍Odeon Cinema, West Brom. We visited the @ODEON Cinemas in West Brom Friday evening for the new Amy Winehouse film biopic. We ordered the tickets online and found a deal, if you sign up as a myOdeon member you get £5 tickets, any film, any time. Which I thought was really good! I think this gets you £7 for the premier seats too! The cinema is quite small and had fills quite quickly. One thing i did find which was a bit annoying was having to queue to order/pay for food and then have to queue again to collect. Which when you only require a drink, it doesnt really make sense to me. They could leave both tills to order and serve as this was causing quite a faff for a lot of people in there. There was a lot on offer including Nachos, hotdogs, popcorn, churros and pick n mix! We only ordered a large coke to share which come to £5.49 and a small sharing bag of chocolate for £3.49🙃 which is quite pricey. Bob Marley One Love feels both empty and void of anything interesting to say. It’s hollow and has no weight or gravitas to the story, feeling more like a movie that started halfway through without any context. There’s no denying Bob Marley is an incredible musician and although I’m not a diehard fan there’s no denying his talent and influence - I have nothing against Bob, I just found this film to be really flat and often kind of boring, I never felt really invested. The cast were all good though I felt Lashana Lynch as Rita Marley I felt didn’t really get much to do, her character often felt really underwritten. It’s a shame, this could have been really compelling but just didn’t not work. 4 let’s get togethers/10
