The American Society Of Magical Negroes es una pelĂcula de drama y fantasĂa del 2024. Aren es reclutado por una sociedad secreta de personas mĂĄgicas que se dedica a proteger a los negros de cualquier daĂąo. Esta pelĂcula es tan extraĂąa, te pretende dejar un mensaje sobre el racismo y hacer una critica social, pero la manera en la que lo lleva a cabo es tan contradictoria, porque mĂĄs bien en ocasiones enaltece a los blancos (como ella misma dice) y todo esta muy mal la verdad. Asimismo, el guion es sumamente pobre y el argumento en general da mucha pena, por lo ambiguo y lamentable que resulta, porque pareciera que ni ellos mismos saben el camino que desean tomar, y lo de la magia estĂĄ ahĂ porque si bĂĄsicamente, porque no tiene mucha razĂłn de ser la verdad o esta justificado tan mediocre que da penita. Y es que en serio tiene cada dialogo que honestamente uno se cuestiona lo que esta viendo, y lo peor de todo es que se toma demasiado en serio a sĂ misma. TambiĂŠn sĂŠ la calidad de actores que posee como Justice Smith y David Alan Grier o Rupert Friend, pero es que la pelĂcula es tan mal planteada, que ni ellos se salvan y sus interpretaciones resultan random y cero destacables. "Chill or Be Chilled." Rusty Cundieff's horror anthology Tales from the Hood was released theatrically on May 24th, 1995. Later that year, it was released on VHS and LaserDisc by HBO. The latter featured a director's commentary track that was not carried over to DVD. The film spawned two sequels, Tales from the Hood 2 and Tales from the Hood 3, released in 2018 and 2020, respectively. Both sequels were also written and directed by Cundieff and Darin Scott. The American Society of Magical Negroes (2024) dir. Kobi Libii Aren, a young black man, is recruited by a magical secret society of others like him who dedicate their lives to a cause of utmost importance: to make the lives of white people easier and more comfortable. I was a fan of the Key & Peele skit, so I was 100% on board when the movie was announced. Having said that, allow me a brief aside... Last year I ended up watching the movie "The Blackening" which was felt like the horror movie equivalent of this movie. Writing about it was one thing, but I realized really quickly how difficult it was to talk about it in a public setting, such as work. Some of the movie's best scenes require dropping an n-bomb, which is impossible to do at the work place. Now, going into this movie I was afraid of how difficult it would be to discuss, but this one wasn't as bad. The whole point of the movie is that one black man doesn't have to be an ambassador for another. And all that within a nutshell, it allowed me to focus on other aspects of the movie that are just as good to discuss. For starters, this has one of the most believable on-screen romance I've seen in a minute. I had made the comment early on about how organic this relationship felt, and that was before the conflict of Aren being required not to be with the girl. From that point on, I was pretty invested in their relationship and SPOILERS..... .... I thought them getting together was bittersweet. One the one hand, I thought it might be a more powerful movie if he didn't get with her, but the movie is more satisfying this way. I had thought this early on while watching the movie - and as I'm writing this, I'm going to double down - the movie should have been split into a trilogy. I feel like there was enough content to warrant at least three movies. I really wanted a Black Hogwarts, so I would have been down with a first movie introducing the rules and the magic with the second one bringing about the conflict of romance. With the third being the outcome of this one, where Aren basically dismantles everything for the greater good and gets the girl in the end.

Another nostalgic film review for ya all. I've been reviewing a lot of them recently, and I thought I'd review Rocky and Bullwinkle. For those who remember, a film adaptation of the old 60s animated show came out. But this time, they team up with young agent Karen Sympathy to stop their old time foes. And if I told you I used to rent this on VHS, would you be surprised? That's how I watched many films as a kid because VHS was a big thing back then. But when it was released, Rocky and Bullwinkle wasn't a big hit. It had mixed reviews from critics, but it was praised for its faithfulness to the original show. But what do I think about it? Well, for what it's worth, it's short and sweet. The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle is a fun and often times silly film. First I'm gonna get to what I liked. The puns. This film is chock full of puns and bad jokes, and I absolutely love them. The college that Bullwinkle used to go to is called Wossamotta U, there's a lot of moose jokes, and a lot of them were sigh worthy and most were laugh worthy. Which is where I probably get my jokes from, let's be honest with ourselves haha. Now to the acting. We have Piper Perabo playing young Karen Sympathy who has to help the duo beat the baddies. She was great in the film and was definitely a shining light. She added so much... Um... Cuteness? Is that right? Well, she was great and added charm to the film. CHARM! That was it, charm! Anyway, back to the review. As the bad trio, we have Robert De Niro as Fearless Leader, Jason Alexandre as Boris and Rene Russo as Natasha. These guys were great in the film, especially De Niro bringing some great puns himself, including a Taxi Driver reference that I'm sure kids probably got back then. (cont. in comments)

Dort lernen Schwarze Mithilfe von Magie das WeiĂe zufrieden sind. Doch Aren's erster Klient stellt Ihn auf eine harte Probe... Eines muss man "The American Society of Magical Negroes" lassen, die Fantasy-Liebes-KomĂśdie hat durchaus 2-3 richtig tolle magische Szenen in denen man so ein wenig an "Harry Potter" erinnert wird. Als Anti-Rassismus Film funktioniert das Werk von Kobi Libii dagegen leider so gut wie gar nicht. Dabei ist die Idee eines Geheimbundes schwarzer Menschen mit magischen Kräften fĂźr eine bessere Welt tatsächlich ganz nett, verkommt aber schnell zu teils fragwĂźrdigen AuswĂźchsen im Bezug darauf warum genau die People of Color alles tun mĂźssen damit die WeiĂen zufrieden sind. Und weil diese seltsame Message in etwa so hoch Ăźber allem schwebt wie die Präsidentin der Society kann die ansonsten wirklich liebenswerte Lovestory nie so richtig zĂźnden. Gerade wenn Aren und Lizzie Momente zu zweit haben spĂźhrt man deren Zuneigung zueinander, womit wir hiermit die stärksten Momente der Fantasy-KomĂśdie sehen. Insgesamt aber fĂźhlen sich die 104 Minuten deutlich länger an, was am schrecklich langsamen bzw. unkoordinierten Tempo der Handlung liegt. Insbesondere die ersten 60 Minuten ziehen sich wie Kaugummi während inhaltlich nichts auĂergewĂśhnlich spannendes passiert. Manche Charakterentwicklungen fallen zudem unglaubwĂźrdig aus und der Cast passt sich so ein wenig dem Gesamtniveau des Films an, was aber wohl auch an den mäĂigen Figurenvorlagen im Drehbuch liegen sollte. Irgendwie kein Wunder das der Film in den USA massiv an den Kinokassen untergegangen ist. Review Blankman 1994 DVD Rating: 4/5 Blankman is a silly take on the vigilante hero thatâs funny in its own right without outstaying its welcome. This film was met with critical disdain on its initial release and I think it plays much better now. Filmmaker Mike Binder switches to comedy-parody from his previous films focused on character drama. Marlon Wayans at this point was attempting to find the right material for the leading character, but this would mark him down after the minor success of Moâ Money. The film would prove to be a commercial disappointment and critics had no idea what to make of it. The superhero parody concept was anything new with Hero at Large being one of the few memorable ones, but none of them had been commercially successful. This film had the unfortunate task of opening one month after Jim Carreyâs The Mask grew into a huge box office and cultural sensation. I found this to be an underrated comedy that takes chances and the sequence with the mayor takes this in a more grounded direction. Itâs enjoyable when you run with it and Wayans is certainly committed to his performance. This was a bold choice for everyone and sadly it never found a bigger audience. I might not be able to give a completely fair assessment on The Colour Purple because I missed the few minutes cause I was running late and the last 20 or so minutes because the projector overheated! I thought it was pretty good but pretty obvious it was an adaptation from a stage musical but it really brought to light a specific time period in a specific part of the world and it was horrifying to think about how freedom is so undermined by such poverty, prejudice and injustice. On a personal and societal level. The production design was spot on, I even liked a few of the songs and the story was pretty good too but it didnât connect with me enough to go again and see the bits I missed! I didnât realize that most of it would take place in the desert, so when it was mentioned, I thought I would easily get bored, but it was still very entertaining. The humor wasnât over-the-top, and it was usually pretty innocent, which can be nice. All of the main characters were funny in their own ways, and the story was quite the adventure. Also, I assumed it had to do with the Army, and that was obviously true, but it was another reason as to why I thought I wouldâve been disappointed, but I was actually pleasantly surprised. Furthermore, this is a short movie that still gets the story straight, and thatâs always a plus.
