Last night our MD @conrad_brunton and Claire from @chefpublishing were invited to try the 10 course tasting menu @opheemrestaurant for the first time since @aktarislam_ and his team were awarded two stars (we’ve been saying for a while they were cooking at that level) - needless to say it was perfection! So many highlights with Claire exclaiming each course from Scallop to Potato to Cod was simply the “best she’d ever eaten!” It was amazing to see how the dishes have evolved, many have been on the menu here for years and have been tweaked and tuned to reach their culinary zenith. It was also fantastic to see how @frostandstuff and his team pace the dining experience. We ate at 17:30 along with another 4 tables, the dining room and bar were constantly moving and as we left just before 9pm the last of the evenings tables were sitting down. No one was rushed, there was a perfect buzz to the space from when it opened onwards. The wine pairings from @chateau_stefan - were superb. He never repeats a country or grape variety in his pairings. Impressive stuff indeed. @veuveclicquot and the potato dish is a heavenly combo! Massive congratulations to @aktarislam_ and the whole team at @opheemrestaurant - last nights dining experience was simply phenomenal. Nonostante ciò le proposte dallo chef David Bizet non passano in secondo piano, infatti, solo apparentemente semplice la cucina risulta essere di una precisione millimetrica, rifinita dalle salse che hanno un ruolo centrale all’interno delle portate e che conferiscono struttura e complessità ai piatti. La cosa certa e’ che in questo ristorante, come davanti ad un quadro meraviglioso , si rimane incantati e si vorrebbe che la cena non finisse mai. ♡ Lord of the Flies Just from the title I was not impressed but it was part of my book club's choice and on my list forever so I gave it a try. I'm not going to go as far as saying that I wish I hadn't read it -- but this book should be read when you are a teenager so you can stomach all the racism and the whining; and to maybe justify some actions which I don't think they are justifiable but.- Not a book that I would re-read to be honest or even recommend. For me the scenes described were too soul scaring and I don't thing that either catharsis or punishment was achieved. William Golding what exactly where you thinking while writing this book?? I really do wonder? If the goal was to show the loss of innocence through a traumatic experience? Then mission accomplished. At least now it's off my list and I can put it behind me once and for all just as the boys did after being rescued from the island. I'm not really sure what to think about this book, I didn't hate it but I also didn't like it. The beginning of the book really dragged but it started to pick up more around the halfway point where we learn more about the Mothman but then it just went back to being boring. While I enjoyed the journey of self discovery that Cassie was on I felt like the overall story wasn't interesting to me. I wanted more about the Mothman. I listened to the audiobook and I had a hard time paying attention to the story and tended to zone out more than I wanted. Nonostante ciò le proposte dallo chef David Bizet non passano in secondo piano, infatti, solo apparentemente semplice la cucina risulta essere di una precisione millimetrica, rifinita dalle salse che hanno un ruolo centrale all’interno delle portate e che conferiscono struttura e complessità ai piatti. La cosa certa e’ che in questo ristorante, come davanti ad un quadro meraviglioso , si rimane incantati e si vorrebbe che la cena non finisse mai. Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick ⭐️⭐️.5 I was pretty disappointed in Hush, Hush. The chemistry between Patch and Nora is severely lacking. I felt no connection to either of them. Nora is so back and forth with every. single. thing. It's obnoxious. Like, girl, get yourself together. Vee is a horrible friend. Period. There are too many villains at once. The main villain makes sense but the rest just feel thrown in there for excitement. The writing style is weird and just jumps from one point to the next. I don't know. 🦊 REVIEW 🦊 ⭐⭐/5 The Fox Wife is historical fiction with a hint of fantasy. I was really excited to read this book about the magical fox people and one woman's quest for revenge after the death of her child. Then, I discovered that this book had entirely no action whatsoever. Straight up boring for 384 pages. This story was all tell and no show. The chapters alternated POV, basically repeating what happened in the previous chapter just from a different viewpoint. I appreciated the romance subplots--they weren't cliche and they actually added to the story. I do feel that there were way too many characters. I couldn't keep track and found myself skimming. Also, the character named Shiro is SUPER predatory. It gave me the ick. Maybe he's supposed to be predatory as a symbol for animal nature presenting itself in humans, but it was gross. Overall, I am disappointed. If you ask me about this book next week, I'm certain I won't remember any of the details. I liked the parallel of her ex-husband marrying the younger woman and no one blinking an eye, but the story was just not the romance I was hoping for.
