36 in 24 Reading Group Never Lie by Freida McFadden My rating- 2โญ Yeah I don't know what to say about this. I had some hope when I wrote out my midway review that the ending might pull some strings for me, but it did not happen. If anything, the ending twists kind of pissed me off. It felt deceitful. I don't want to get into any spoilers, so I'll keep it light, but I hate having first person pov but then finding out the narrator is completely withholding information. I think an unreliable narrator can certainly be done well, but the way this shook out did not feel realistic at all. It felt like most of the twists where only there to trick the reader, which is not satisfying for me at all. All of this aside, I feel like I'm the few days since I've finished this book I've forgot about it already. Sin embargo existe una ciudad, Tiran, que estรก protegida por una barrerra mรกgica (una especie de domo) donde no llega la plaga, ni el frรญo, tormentas etc. En esta ciudad la magia funciona como energรญa para la ciudad (le da funcionamiento a la luz, los transportes, fรกbricas, etc). Los magos son como una especie de cientรญficos/ingenieros de la magia. Son muy respetados en la sociedad y estudian un montรณn de aรฑos. ๐ฅY aca es donde entra una de las protagonistas: Sciona, ella es una maga y acaba de pasar un examen que le permite trabajar en el ministerio de magia. They both have their own ulterior motives and they settle in a very cautious dance around each other. Reading the first 20%, I found the story slow and repetitive, but then the second timeline started picking up. This added SO MUCH to the story. Getting glimpses of Tiffanyโs past was the perfect addition to the story, it added a level of complexity that was missing initially, and I was hooked. It took me about twelve days to get to 20% and I read the rest in one night. Devoured. Learning about Tiffanyโs childhood and all the events that led to her becoming a doctor was so interesting. Her history with Shelley and Rafe, her job on the strip, her relationship with Mr. Chen, and her interactions with Stewart were heartbreaking and thought-provoking. On the flip side, we got a heartwarming romance with Ethan, which was equally genuine and thorough. What Lurks Between the Fates By Harper L Woods๐ง โญ3/5 ๐25/100 Book 3 of an incomplete series. ๐ถSuprise suprise ๐ถ I did not like this book any more than I liked book 1 or 2. I still see why this is so hyped, but I canโt get behind the hype and even though this ended on a cliffhanger I will not continue the series when book 4 is released later this year. While I can appreciate the world building the character development just isnโt there for me. I am not the least bit invested in any of these characters and found myself rolling my eyes at certain scenes. For example: she mentions however many times that Fae canโt lie, but they can avoid the truth and you have to be careful when making a deal with one to avoid any available loop holes they could manipulate. What does she do? Makes a deal with THE fae, Queen Mab, and DOESNโT pay attention to her deal enough to give Mab an out. . . . ๐ I understand most of what a MC says is for the benefit of the reader, but when it is HARPED on you would think that maybe, just maybe, the MC wouldnโt be stupid.
