It has a such a sweet and funny romance paired with just the right amount of heat. Megan Bannen does an excellent job of endearing readers to her characters, and she built such an original fantasy world, that I breezed through this book. The banter between Hart and all of the other characters had me laughing as I read. I enjoy the mentor trope in this book as well. The pacing is great, but I’d love a bit more world-building. It’s not that there isn’t enough for me to understand, I was just so intrigued that I wanted more. If you enjoyed Legends and Lattes but prefer a bit more spice and adventure, this is a great fit. I was excited for the opportunity to read this ARC by Lauren Blackwood (Coming May 14th!). After the rich settings of Within These Wicked Walls and Wildblood, I knew I didn’t want to miss this story of hunting vampires during the American Civil War. Once again, the time and place make the novel come alive. Jerusalem is an escaped slave, now fighting with the Union Army. Though most women aren’t allowed in the ranks, Jerusalem is a Saint, a person with superhuman speed and strength, just what she needs to combat the vampires that thrive as slaveholders in the South. She lives to kill vampires - well, except for the one. Alexei is a self-important Russian vampire, and an ally, who represents everything deadly to Jerusalem. And the scent of her blood threatens his control. The two form part of a team headed to route out Confederate vampires in Gettysburg. For Jerusalem, it becomes a mission of revenge. For Alexei, it is the inevitable end to centuries of running. I had a more difficult time getting into this story than in Lauren Blackwood’s previous novels. While nineteenth century America stayed as a setting, the war became a distant part of the story. The plot became second to the romance. To me, too many pages were filled with Jerusalem and Alexei bickering about the same things. Four stars to this novel with a lot of great things. 📖Book Review📖 Middletide by Sarah Crouch Middletide is part mystery and part police procedural set in a small town in the Pacific Northwest. It's told in multiple timelines throughout the main character, Elijah's life. The "present day" timeline takes place in 1994. The first 2/3 of this book moves really slow. I don’t mind a slow burn, but it didn’t work for me here. I think the biggest issue is that I didn’t feel any connection to the main character. In fact, he really annoyed me. He spends far too much pining for his ex-girlfriend from high school, who he hasn't seen or talked to in almost 20 years. And licking his wounds because the first book he published was not a success. He did not seem like someone who could function or live as an adult. The last third of the book finally picked up and then moved very quickly.  This isn't a horrible debut. The descriptions of the atmosphere, land, and homesteading were great. It just could have used some better pacing and characterization.

We had eight Mother’s Day orders. EIGHT. That may not seem like a lot, but to us it was special. Eight people who believe in what we are trying to achieve. Eight people who believe in our dream. 📝 “El olor de la guayaba” por Gabriel García Márquez y Plinio Apuleyo Mendoza. Las personas que me conocen saben que yo tengo una relación muy complicada con el Gabo… lo detesto. Y es que surge una dualidad muy extraña porque el primer libro que leí de él (“Miguel Littín, clandestino en Chile”) es uno de mis libros favoritos. Top diez, fácil. Me atrevo a decir que es de los mejores textos periodísticos que he leído. En ese momento empieza mi curiosidad por saber del colombiano, aunque pasaron unos cuatro años para que volviera a leerlo. Así, inesperadamente, me topo con “Memorias de mis putas tristes”… no sé si describir nuestro reencuentro como un grave error, porque realmente me abrió el panorama de una realidad ignorada de uno de los grandes pioneros del realismo mágico. ¡Qué decrépita historia! Y dejen eso, ¡tan pobre es la construcción! ¡No cuenta nada, no llega a nada! ¡La narrativa es tan sosa, incumplida, olvidada, decepcionante! Así decae nuestra relación, de picada. Sin embargo quiero conocerlo; es un canon latinoamericano y si quiero tener una crítica fundamentada, tengo que leerlo. “El olor de la guayaba” es una entrevista/conversación con uno de sus amigos más cercano, Plinio. Bueno, les resumo: Gabriel estuvo sumamente involucrado en la revolución cubana (como muchos autores), pero se mantuvo con Fidel Castro (casi como mano derecha en su desarrollo personal) después de la catástrofe que fue la intervención de EU; comparte efusivamente que las mujeres son la causa del machismo y sus intervenciones políticas y diplomáticas son bastante dudosas (¡el mismo Plinio lo dice!). No puedo objetar decepción, porque de él no esperaba nada. Como todo hombre de los años sensenta, se jacta de un romántico, enamorado, emotivo como ningún otro, salvaguardándose en una figura que lo ha salvado de muchas críticas. ✨Book Review✨ I devoured this book in one day. Annah Conwell did not disappoint. She brought a sweet, sassy love story with plenty of heart, swoon and depth that had me hooked instantly. The relationship between the main characters was witty and beautiful. Following Sutton’s journey as she discovered that everything she thought she knew about Shaw was wrong was delightful. And don’t even get me started on Shaw’s complete and utter adoration with her. I also really enjoyed the way she set up the characters to continue to series with other friends. This was a no spice, high swoon romance with lots of butterflies. En algún momento de la vida todas (me atrevo a decir) nos hemos visto involucradas en una relación que nos ha hecho menos de lo que somos, hemos cambiado nuestros gustos o forma de pensar para tratar de complacer a un Narciso que nunca tendrá lo suficiente. Al instante lo relacioné con Olivia y Enough for you 💜. No creo que todas tengamos la autoestima tan baja como la protagonista, pero si se quedan ciertas heridas que tardan en sanar. Si estoy en lo cierto, tienes que leer esta historia. Este libro es un viaje de sanación que considero necesario de leer, tanto si te identificas con la situación de Danny como si no lo haces.
