In appreciation for buying two of my journals, this is a gift for the lovely Chariya and her success with Masterchef and opening her new restaurant ‘Khao Soi’ in Alton, Hampshire. Chariya, you’ve nailed it yet again! So here is the rundown. The text was carved from red full grain 3.5mm cows hide and carefully sewn down in the same font and style as her charming restaurant logo. The main journal body is full grain light antique brown hide in 3.2mm leather. The clasp is double-layer hand marble dyed and red leather, with a hickory wood chopsticks to hold it shut. Finally the binding is 3.5mm antique dark brown leather thong, and the card is 100 sheets of bespoke-cut 225gsm crisp white card. As ever, if anyone would like a bespoke journal made for them or someone else please get in touch. Originally this book was promised to Chariya as a guestbook, but honestly there just wasn’t the space for it at her restaurant! Letters to Fear -Lighthouse Enigma Salvador, Bahia’s lighthouse, reached for the sky; its beam cut through the darkness, guiding sailors and fishermen home. But beneath its shimmering light, a mystery lurked, waiting to be unraveled. Local legend spoke of a hidden chamber beneath the lighthouse, where secrets and treasures lay concealed. Many attempted to find it, but none succeeded. The lighthouse keeper, a wise and enigmatic man named Jorge, seemed to hold the key, but his lips were sealed. One rainy night, returning from the beach, I took refuge near the lighthouse. Waiting for the rain to pass, I explored the cramped spaces; a strange noise led me to a hidden door. Jorge appeared, startling me because I knew I wasn’t supposed to be there. Jorge smiled. “The time has come,” he said, handing me an ancient key. “Uncover the truth beneath the light.” I descended into the unknown, with my heart racing. The air grew thick with the scent of old books and sea salt. I discovered a room filled with dusty tomes, yellowed scrolls, and mysterious artifacts. As I delved deeper, I uncovered a centuries-old diary belonging to a Portuguese explorer. The entries spoke of a hidden treasure, a golden statue of the Afro-Brazilian goddess, Yemanjá, crafted by enslaved Africans. The explorer had hidden it beneath the lighthouse, vowing to protect it from those who would misuse its power. I realized the significance of my discovery: a symbol of resistance, hope, and resilience.
