It’s been such a long time since I consumed a book as quickly as An Ember in the Ashes from Sabaa Tahir. I could not put it down and thought about it constantly whenever I wasn’t reading. The writing, the character development, the way the story flowed and progressed kept me hooked from beginning to end. It was everything I want in a YA fantasy and then some. Plus I loved getting a peak at the richness of another culture outside of the usual Euro-centric depiction you typically get in high fantasy. 🎮Book Review🎮 Book: Forbidden Game Author: Madison Fox 5⭐️ Guys this is one of my favourites series! I’ve been looking forward to Forbidden Game since reading Good Game last year and Madison Fox did not let me down! Gamer heroes with all the found family/bromance fun you get from reading sports romance. That’s what The System is giving🙌🏼 I’ve always loved gaming, so this series and these characters are going to be a comfort read for me. There’s also plenty of great spice🌶️ The hero in this one Parker was even more perfect than I expected him to be. He’s a cocky billionaire with great banter and a heart of gold💙 Sydney is their publicist and in book one was already a badass so I knew what I’d be getting here, but I loved to see the layers to her character and some of the vulnerability and struggles she’d been dealing with but hiding behind her strong facade. Sydney and Parker together were everything, the support they showed to each other at every opportunity was *chefs kiss* My favourite couple and book in the series so far, but we haven’t read Jackson’s book yet so we will see where that leaves me! nobody, somebody, anybody…review Denial of responsibility looms in the back of Amy’s mind, sabotaging her future. Working as a maid in a hotel while hoping to get her emt license Amy’s struggling to find her place in life. A story about buried grief and the mourning she never let herself experience washing back to the surface in fragments. There’s a lot going on in this book mentally rather than physically. While most would find it lacking in action, I really enjoy the relatability of the fmc. Amy has trouble forming relationships with people and when she does, it becomes a bit obsessive. There seems to be a problem with the relationships she has with her parents and she lets the issues turn into guilt and shame. She’s very robotic in most of her conversations and seems to have trouble understanding her own emotions. She can so easily erase her current state and redesign it into a new opportunity. The perfect mix of delusion and optimism I’ve ever read in a character. This book is one giant cry for help, but you can’t feel bad for Amy either because she doesn’t let you. Most of what she does is questionable but she keeps going and never manages to reflect on her past mistakes. I really enjoy this book and found it a refreshing struggle, especially when the main characters life isn’t solidified in the important areas people expect you to have everything planned.

No sister is the same, but each is flawed and loveable 💕 The only commonality they share is their deep trauma from living at Wild Meadows 😢 Jessica is clever, organised but scarred from her relationship with Ms. Fairchild. Norah is impulsive, strong minded, but never warmed to Ms. Fairchild. Alicia is caring, calm and loved by Grammy, which made her unlovable to Ms. Fairchild. The story is told from multiple POVs, and over 3 different timeframes. We hear from Jessica, Norah and Alicia, both in the present and during their time at Wild Meadows 🌳 We also hear from a not-yet named patient of Dr. Warren, the psychiatrist. 📚I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy📚 No rating Damn. This book is so blunt, in a good way. McCurdy doesn’t hold back, and writes in a very short-sentence, blunt and raw style that makes you uncomfortable but really FEEL what she has to say. The writing forces you to confront the feelings that come up, both around her life and around your own, especially if you can relate to her life in any way. The audiobook is especially powerful. Read by McCurdy herself, you could feel the emotions under the even, calm narration. Hearing the words from the author herself is so powerful and personal, I felt like I was invading on a private space meant for only her. But I’m so glad McCurdy shared her story with the world— I hope it gave her some peace. I got goosebumps at the end of this book. The ending was really moving and as someone with a narcissistic parent, it was really nice to hear that one can heal as much as possible with time (and hard work). As someone who loved iCarly growing up, I look back and despise the industry for the abuse and cruelty inflicted on McCurdy and countless other children. I’m so glad McCurdy made the decision to not do the reboot, and I hope everyone after reading this book respects that decision. Overall, this is such an amazing, hard to read memoir that I highly recommend, as long as you check your content warnings because it gets intense. I don’t rate true stories, but if I did this would be high up there. There’s dark humour, insight into a life the average person has no idea about, and honesty that I’m not even sure we deserve but I hope healed McCurdy in some way. Highly recommend. This one was a gift by my (amazing) English teacher, when I still went to classes before getting my diploma, so I really wanted to give this a go🫶🏽 The whole theme, the-going-to-vacation-to-a-non-electronics-resort, was a nice idea, I really liked it. The three protagonists that the book follows have problems, thoughts, and concerns that I think the majority of people relate to. Their friendship was cute, and the atmosphere was constantly changing between funny and aloof to more serious, something that kept it from being tedious. I think some points were a bit dragged, like they could be shortened quite a bit, but overall, it was a nice read. ✨️ Book Review ✨️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌠 To preface this review: I have read both Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion, but not any of Tolkien's other unfinished works. It was only after I started reading this that I quickly learnt this was the last book in the series edited and published by his son, Christopher Tolkien. I read this for @fantasy_fellowship May readathon and switched between both audio and physical (sometimes both!) This book did a fantastic job of putting together not only the original tale told within the Silmarillion, expanding upon it and explaining it's differences, but also gave an insight into Tolkien's methodology as a whole. I knew Christopher (J.R.R. Tolkien's son and editor for these books) had been left with a multitude of notes by J.R.R. but never quite the extent or potentially paradoxical notations. Regardless of this, Christopher did a fantastic job of taking us through these multitude of notes regarding the Fall of Gondolin and its surrounding cast. I'm left not only with a greater understanding of the story but also a greater appreciation of Tolkien and his life work that is Middle Earth. I’m in a foul mood because I wish to create more content, but I don’t have the time, and my muscles are super sore all of a sudden. Plus, my dyslexic brain isn’t helping. However, I’m giving it my all to write and post this before I head to bed. Well, by now, you can tell that I’m not a book blog that talks strictly about books but about my day-to-day life, too, which might be what is hurting me stats-wise, but I won’t go it any other way. I’ve been reading a bunch of YA since I was looking for Middle-Grade books on my Kindle, but I didn’t find any, but since I searched novels, I didn’t know I had come on top of the list. I finished all my TRB, and by default, they are getting read. Snowflake Kisses: A Kpop Romance by Jennie Bennett sounds like a Christmas novel, and there are even blurb hints at that, but I missed that element here. We get the typical trope with singers where everyone and their mother know about them, and there are fans apart from the other main character. I’m not familiar with Kpop culture, but I don’t see the traits people talk about. I might be wrong, but the only thing that sounded Korean were the names, which I don’t remember. ✨Happy Monday friends! I went into Heartless Hunter (The Crimson Moth) with high expectations because of all the hype around it and it did not disappoint. Buddy read with @sammy_readz and had the best time staying up late lol This was my first witchy book and first time reading a book told in 3rd person pov. The book follows Rune and Gideon , the hunter and the hunted, forbidden love, enemies to lovers back to enemies. I don't want to give too much away if you have not read it but I gave it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Memorable quote: "you should have renounced me, you could have saved yourself. “Point of Retreat” by Colleen Hoover ⭐️⭐️ I wasn’t a big fan of Layken, FMC, in this one… mainly because she acted like a literal child the entire book. Will, MMC, was absolutely amazing in this book and showed his true colors throughout, sticking by Layken’s side, and fitting so well in his “dad” role. Overall, there was a lot of high school conflict throughout that made me want to bang my head on a wall.

A könyv címéből kiindulva a történetben megvan minden romantikus vígjátékokba illő klissé - ám mindez egy kellemes csavarral fűszerezve, miszerint Sally nem az a tipikus hősnő, akit egy rom-comban láthatunk. 🎬 Habár nagyon nagy izgalommal és reménnyel áltam neki a könyvnek, egy ici-pici csalódottságot sajnos éreztem. A könyv közepe felé úgy éreztem nagyon eltávolodtam két főszereplőnktől. Sally önkritikája, magával kapcsolatos ironikus viselkedése egy idő után túl sokká vált számomra, így a vele szemben érzett szimpátiám egy kicsit vesztett az erőségéből. Valamit a könyv közepétől úgy érztem, hogy olyan mintha túl gyorsan haladnánk, miközben lényegesen nem is történik semmi. De a történet utolsó harmada sokat javított ezeken az érzéseimen, így nálam ez a könyv egy erős 4.5 ⭐️. Hello Booksta 🤍 Aujourd'hui je vais vous parler de The Beauty of the Beast de @f.v.estyer Je vais pas mentir j'ai eu du mal à rentrer dedans, j'étais un peu perdu au niveau des dates et ces retours dans le passé puis présent, j'étais souvent dans l'incompréhension, mais j'ai continué parce que j'aimais beaucoup la plume de l'Auteur, et j'etais complètement absorbé par cette histoire complètement démente. C'est ma première romance MM et j'ai adorée ! Et puis le conte de la belle et la bête, et probablement l'un de mes préféré. L'auteur a sut me surprendre un nombre incalculable de la fois. J'avais des théories folles , qui ce sont avéré toutes fausses et c'est ça qui est génial dans ce livre, il est surprenant ! Les personnages sont tout autant incroyable, j' ai aimé le combat intérieur de Viktor, entre ce que dit son cœur et sa tête, entre ce qui est moralement correcte ou non. Et l'histoire de Damian qui est bouleversante, intriguante, parfois incompréhensible, et en même temps totalement logique. Cette histoire qui l'a transformé à jamais en... Et bien une bête... It's a fun read, if one where I wasn't a particular fan of the male leads, one of which seems quite plainly manipulative and only concerned with his own feelings. Hello tout le monde, J'espère que vous avez passé un bon week-end et que la reprise s'est bien passée ! Je vous retrouve aujourd'hui pour vous parler de "La promesse du silence" de Catherine Balance paru aux @editionsjouvence . J'ai eu la chance de lire ce livre en avant-première, en tant que membre du Cercle des Sereines 2024. Mon avis : L’une est cachée, l’autre s’est senti abandonné. Ella et Aurélien, deux personnes sensibles touchées par la même peine, celle de la perte d’un être cher, un amant ou un père intermittent, vont devoir apprivoiser leur chagrin et trouver la force d’avancer. Catherine Balance nous offre ici une belle plume, tout en sensibilité et en pudeur. On trouve dans ce roman de la poésie, beaucoup d’amour et d’acceptation. Malgré ce sujet très sensible qu’est le deuil, j’ai été moins émue que je ne m’y attendais. L’un des personnages de ce roman, une psychologue, m’a un peu déstabilisée en usant de techniques controversées pour questionner Ella sur la manière dont elle a vécu cet amour un peu inédit et atypique, pour l’aider à faire face à ce deuil. Faut-il garder un secret au-delà de la mort ? Peut-on rattraper le temps perdu ? Voilà deux questions que pose ce roman. C’est une belle lecture, mais il m’a manqué un petit quelque chose, notamment sur la fin, pour que ce soit une très belle lecture. Et vous, connaissez-vous ce roman ? Vous tente-t-il ? A bientôt ! K.
Une belle et passionnante histoire, que j’ai découverte grâce à un post de @lectrice_a_plein_temps 🐈⬛ 🏚️ 👻 🪄🔮 Ayant deux sœurs, j’ai vraiment aimé cette histoire au sujet de deux sœurs que tout oppose, qui se disputent sans cesse alors qu’au fond elles sont l’une pour l’autre la personne la plus importante au monde... ⚡💜 L’histoire est prenante, écrite avec beaucoup de poésie et très agréable à lire. En tant que lectrice de fantasy je suis habituée aux longues séries et j’ai apprécié la manière dont ici l’autrice a réussi à faire tenir toute son intrigue dans un seul livre, tout en lui donnant une belle profondeur et en abordant des thèmes passionnants. 📖📘📚 La sororité, l’acceptation de soi, la “rage féminine”, la lutte contre les préjugés, l’amour, la colère, le fait de ne pas savoir exprimer ses émotions, une triste histoire de fantôme noyée et de honte, le fait d’enfin vivre sa vie, le courage... tout cela se déroule au fil des pages, livrant de belles émotions. ♀️👭 Les personnages sont marquants et travaillés, chacun avec ses forces et faiblesses. Les chapitres passent du point de vue de l’un à l’autre, permettant d’avoir différentes perspectives sur les péripéties rencontrées par nos personnages. Au fur et à mesure que le roman avance, les masques tombent et on découvre le monde intérieur de chacun, chacune, dans de délicats portraits. 🐈⬛📖⚡ En résumé une histoire une belle découverte qui m’a fait passer une très agréable lecture. 👻☺️🥰📚 L’as-tu lu ? A Fate Inked in Blood •𝑹𝒆𝒗𝒊𝒆𝒘 ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♡ I always love Norse inspired romance/fantasy. Freya and Bjorn have some real potential as MCs I loved the slow burn, forbidden love that’s going on. However, I hope to see some character development in the next book as Bjorn, especially, fell a little flat for me. Freya is a strong FMC, who has been through a lot but, she was still a little annoying for me. I liked her one minute and the next she was annoying me with her indecisiveness and anger. I’m just not sure how I feel about her character 🤷🏻♀️ The world building was great and the magic was interesting. Was definitely transported to the epic battles and Viking villages. Even the smells were described so well, I felt immersed! This is the first book I’m reading of Danielle Jensen and I thought her writing was well done, but be forewarned this is definitely not a clean read, there is a lot of open door scenes and language. This would be the only reason I don’t read the next book in the series, which is such a bummer because the plot is awesome! Ils sont chez nous // Lisa Jewell 🪴 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ /5 Contrairement à ma dernière lecture de Lisa Jewell, j’ai été happée par ce récit à 3 voix qui nous emmène immédiatement au cœur d’une triple intrigue. D’un côté, on fait connaissance avec Libby, orpheline qui apprend soudainement, non seulement qu’elle devient propriétaire d’une immense maison suite au décès de ses parents biologiques, mais aussi que les circonstances de son adoption sont autres que celles qu’on lui a racontées à l’époque. De l’autre, on rencontre Lucie, quarantenaire SDF, qui vit au jour le jour avec ses deux enfants et leur chien. Du troisième, on est projeté dans une autre temporalité, en 1988, où la fameuse maison léguée à Libby est le lieu d’actes étranges et de la descente aux enfers d’une mystérieuse famille. Les trois intrigues avancent au même rythme, et bien qu’il y ait quelques longueurs, Lisa Jewell utilise des mécanismes bien rôdés, efficaces et des sujets prolifiques pour les thrillers psychologiques: secrets de famille, quête identitaires, sectes,… on se régale ! Le dénouement en plusieurs paliers est juste magistral ! Quand on pense qu’on a tout compris, une nouvelle révélation fait alors son entrée sans nous laisser de répit.
