Happy Saturday ✨✨ “You’re Not Supposed To Die Tonight”, by Kaylynn Bayron, is a fun YA slasher set in Camp Mirror Lake. How could you go to summer camp without a killer on the loose? A slasher terrorizing a camp is a must. I mean yeah… it’s better to go home at the end of the summer without being terrorized 😏 but what is the fun in that? In “You’re Not Supposed to Die,” We are introduced to Charity. She is horror-obsessed. One summer she was given the job of her dreams… Final Girl. Every year guests visit Camp Mirror Lake to experience a full-contact horror game. Staff recreates scenes from classic horror movies. It is all fun and games: making fake blood, rubber weapons, and jump scares. Until it is not. I loved the nods to several horror movies. The original Halloween movie. The theme song was played each night. Several are mentioned and the well-known 80s movies fit the setting of the story. It takes a while for “You’re Not Supposed to Die” to really take off. But the build-up was very enjoyable. There are hints dropped that something ominous will happen. Bayron subtly built tension well in this YA slasher. As the story heats up, the story takes a very interesting turn. I felt it was worth the buildup. TSWBD didn’t disappoint and by the half way point I was actually contemplating slowing down my reading as I didn’t want it to end 🥺😭🥹 Carley kept to her trademark dual timeline / flashbacks way of story telling and had just enough foreshadowing and mystery to keep me engaged, invested, and of course craving seafood/ oysters! Full of heart, and complicated characters and just the right amount of spice for my mood, TSWBD is pretty much exactly what I needed, hoped and wanted it to be! The atlas of love By @laurie.frankel 🌟🌟🌟🌟 (4/5) This is not my first book by Laurie Frankel. I have loved and devoured 'This is how it always is' and 'One two three', so I knew I was in for a treat. When Jill gets pregnant, she and her two best friends move in together to tri-parent the little boy they name Atlas. Of course a lot goes wrong, as each of the young women have their own Rollercoaster lives to deal with. It's a beautiful story about life, love, friendship, relationships, values and how to deal with lofe's unexpected chaos. I enjoyed the book very much although I was lacking a little of the extra tension her other books had that kept me on the edge of my reading seat. It nevertheless gets 4 stars because it manages to spin lives together with literature and the way stories are told. The hero is baby Atlas, who manages to keep everyone on their toes around him as they question their presence and dream about their future. I got a “fancy” camera years ago and took a couple of lessons, but life got busy so I never really stuck with it. It was easy to read, and the behind-the-scenes feel of the fashion, modeling, and photography world was so fascinating! I was thinking to myself throughout the book how much research Betty must have done into the fashion world as everything felt so reasonable and like it could be true. Finding out the author was a fashion videographer made so much sense. I loved both the POVs, but Theo is one of the most raw and emotionally authentic male MCs I’ve read in a while, and I loved his character so much. 🥹 It was a sweet friends to lovers, second chance romance and author debut, and reminded me a little of both Every Summer After, and Love and Other Words. The author wrote an intro with trigger warnings that made me have so much more appreciation for the story, so I recommend reading that even though some may consider it a little spoiler. Seems like so many great books are publishing this week, and One Last Shot is one of them! 🥰

of jade and dragons ☁️ release date: june 18th ⚡️spoiler-free review "a lamp can light up the darkness around you, but a story lights up the darkness within." ying's ambition is to follow in her father's footsteps to become part of the engineer's guild in fei, where only the highest ranking men can achieve their dreams and create unimaginable things. when her father is murdered for his life-threatening guild notes, ying takes it upon herself to track the killer which leads her to disguising herself as a boy to enter the engineer's guild where her father is most revered and his secrets will be revealed. of jade and dragons is a murder mystery enriched in a chinese qing dynasty-inspired world. the politics are cut-throat, the world-building is stunning, and amber chen's storytelling kept me engaged until the very end. i liked the hints of romance between ying and ye-yang. of jade and dragons focuses more on the murder mystery and the trials ying must complete to survive than the romance, which honestly is totally fine. i was so engrossed in ying's path to finding the truth that the romance is an extra bonus. there were many plot twists, some i was able to decipher quickly and others that took me by surprise. i hope we will see more from ying's family and how they are incorporated in the war and how that will affect their relationships. the friendships she built with a few of the aspiring engineers are developed well, and i love her bond with ye-kan. the murder mystery and the steampunk ships, automaton creatures, and creations were so cool. i hope we will see another dragon in a sequel. "you said that if i wanted to seek revenge, you would wield the sword on my behalf. but that was a lie. i was your sword, but you were never mine." i highly recommend this beautiful story if you've read to gaze upon wicked gods, defy the night, and fell in love with the story of mulan. 🪦🐉⚔️

💫 Favorite Special Editions 💫 Do you read your fancy special editions of books? Most of the time I actually do! Though they don’t leave the house and the only person allowed to borrow them is my fiancé 😅 But a select few are really just eye-candy (especially if they are ones that make me cry or angry which is typical for books I adore). Gothikana - RuNyx I liked the layout of this story, the suspense, the mental health representation and the love story. I did feel like I wanted the mystery aspects to build a bit more, they seemed to be resolved too quickly. This book’s outer esthetic matched the gothic vibes of the story. Overall, I’m happy I grabbed this book just based on the gorgeous dark vibes it gives off. If @authorrunyx writes a follow up story, I will read it! The little quotes that were built in before each chapter was a fun touch, along with the photo pages. I especially appreciate the beetlejuice ones!! I talked my best friends into reading this one with me. We mapped it out, reading about 50 pages a day… the suspense was killing me! I feel like I’ve time travelled back 6 years this morning. I find myself again in the car, with a sleeping baby in the back & an audiobook keeping me company on the drive. I’ve now pulled up & my littlest bookworm is still sleeping so I am hunkering down with my book until she wakes up. After a night of numerous wake ups - I’m taking this time so relax. It has also made me reflect on this page. Why I started it six years ago and all it has given me since. I started as a sleep deprived new mum who just wanted to record via pictures what she was reading. I gained so much more than I could have anticipated. I found an amazing community of people which have led to the best of friendships. It’s connected me to authors, it gave me the confidence to start @the_book_taster & ultimately it has given me a hobby that encourages me to make time for myself. So yes, I may feel like I’ve taken a journey back in time finding myself in a car with a baby and a book.
