(Del två i katedralserien.) Den är 1200 sidor lång och tar över 54 timmar att lyssna på. Jag har "bara" sju timmar kvar att lyssna på nu. Men den är bra. Nu härjar pesten i England och många intriger pågår samtidigt. Jag älskar att vara tillbaka i medeltiden. Dra din plog över de dödas ben av Olga Tokarczuk läser jag vid sidan av och har kanske läst 1/3 av. Tycker mycket om den hittills. Bra läsning just nu alltså även om det inte går supersnabbt framåt. 📺 Jag kollar på The pillars of the earth (en miniserie baserad på Svärdet och spiran av Ken Follett som jag läste ut förra månaden). Följer också med i Gifta vid första ögonkastet och som vanligt också Antiques roadtrip. 🎧 Förutom ljudboken jag nämnt lyssnar jag mycket på Johnny Flynn. Han senaste skiva The moon also rises är riktigt bra. Älskar speciellt låten Song with no name. 🏠 I övrigt åker vi till sommarstugan för första gången i år, för nu har nog gården äntligen tinat fram. Det ska bli roligt att låta katten gå fri igen. Veckan har varit ganska stressigt med med fina stunder. Äntligen har våren kommit hit också. Igår släppte den mesta av isen på älven. Läser just nu: Rid i natt! av Vilhelm Moberg Mina två favoritergenres är historiska romaner och klassiker. Vad passar då bättre än att slå ihop dem och läsa en historisk roman skriven av en klassiker-författare? Rid i natt utspelas under första halvan av 1600-talet när bönderna i byn Brändebol tvingas gå dagsverken för en tysk adelsman. En av bönderna, Ragnar Svedje, vill att de ska vägra följa adelsmannens påbud, som han anser strider mot rätt och lag. När tyskens fogde hotar med kroppsstraff tycker dock byns ålderman att de ska ge efter. Ragnar Svedje måste fly till skogs för att inte bli gripen. Med ca en fjärdedel kvar att läsa kan jag konstatera att Moberg har lyckats fånga tidsepoken väl. Man får en tydlig inblick i hur det var för bönderna på 1600-talet. Jag kan inte säga att jag blir lika fängslad som jag blev när jag läste Utvandrar-serien. Men det ska ändå bli spännande att läsa sista delen också. Hur ska det gå för Svedje och de andra? Denna upplaga av Rid i natt är tryckt 1958. Jag blir alltid så nyfiken på själva boken när jag håller i en så pass gammal bok. Hur har dess liv sett ut, hur många gånger har den blivit läst? Hi everyone! I hope your week started well! ❤️ I started this book yesterday and I read more from it this morning and I love it already. It came at the perfect time and I never felt more seen. Some things made so much sense and it confirmed some of my theories. It also made me think about why it's hard being single sometimes, why we're really searching for romantic love and why some clichés are harmful, and how to search for love and validation not only in romantic relationships. These are some things that I struggle with lately and this book helped me get some clarity. What are you currently reading and do you like it so far?

Hope you’re doing something you love! 📖: Jane in Love by Rachel Givney A rom-com of sorts that’s a cute fun read in which Jane Austen accidentally time travels to present day England, and, you guessed it, falls in love. I’m not much of a romance reader, but I am actually enjoying this book. It has multiple POVs, which I am sucker for. These include Jane, struggling with the 21st century and getting home. Sofia, an aging actress struggling with her recent divorce, who befriends and helps Jane. Lastly, there is Fred who is Sofia’s handsome brother and Jane’s love interest. Along with the main plot of Jane messing up the timeline, there’s a subplot that focuses on Sofia’s woes, which I find myself more invested in. I need to know what will happen! ☕️: Cafe Mocha How am I spending this day of love? Fortunately, I have this whole week off from work, so I’m having a quiet day with a book, coffee, and my journal. Later on my boyfriend and I will be having dinner at our favorite Thai restaurant. What are your plans for today? “‘Power isn’t only found in our signets,’” - Rebecca Yarros, #IronFlame — Good morning friends & Happy New Year! It has been a while 🙈 Very delayed review of #RebeccaYarros Iron Flame, but here it is: Overall, I really enjoyed the 2nd book in the series. It was for the most part fast-paced, had a lot of cool fantasy world building/reveals, the ending was great, and as always the dialogue between the dragons had me giggling (shout out to Andarna, teens have my ❤️). Things I didn’t love: it was way too long, and there was a huge lull in the middle of the book that could have been shortened/taken out. There were also plot holes/things that weren’t totally explained, which felt like parts were just thrown in. I am still very much looking forward to reading the next in the series, and so curious as to what direction the story will go in!
There’s something about Josie Silver’s books that are so perfect for the end of the year. A Winter in New York was a delightful almost 2024 read. As Iris attempts to save the little Italian Gelateria down the street, she finds herself coming into her own and getting braver little by little. This book was so atmospheric and cozy and it really made me crave gelato. I also really enjoyed all the references to classic movies filmed in New York. This is a great winter read and I recommend it. I'm flying through this one, and it makes me want to go add all of the author's books to my TBR. I was shocked that I hadn't read anything by @winterrenshaw up to this point. I was so sucked into this one that I took it with me to read in the lobby of my son's PT appointment today😳. Which leads me to my QOTD. I will start off with saying this didn't fully blow me away. And for the majority of the book I didn't see how it could get five stars.. but it did. It got all 5 stars . . The opening is brilliant, the world building exceptional, the magic system phenomenal and the premise of the story seemed exhilarating . . However the middle for me, was dull. Like really dull. The character work didnt really land and we kind of slogged along without a huge amount seeming to happen. Fundamental problem being I didnt really like Vin. I also struggled with how much of the book is internal monologue . . Then we hit the final 150 pages. And from here on out, it's all 5 star writing. Twists, turns, actions and emotions. The pay offs from the middle build were worth it and I couldn't stop until I finished. . . For my sanderson debut, I will say, I loved the idea, but he's not my favourite for character writing or the prose themselves. But if this 5 stars than the future Sanderson reads are exciting prospect

I am reading Mercury by Amy Jo Burns in a #readtogether organised by @celadonbooks with other bookstagrammers. The book is exploring the relationships between members of a family - and how each person has a role, a role that they don't seem able to break out of. Some insights in the novel resonate, yet often I feel frustrated with the characters. I am thinking that this book is going to be a thought provoking one. How was your weather today? Coffee and Currently Reading Or recently read… depending on when you see this because I plan on finishing this book this morning. It’s pretty good, but not a favorite for me. I’ve seen tons of great reviews of it though, and can see why it’s well loved. I am an SNL fan, so it’s cool seeing behind the scenes, but I already knew a lot of that from Colin Jost’s book. It’s also different to read a book set during the pandemic that isn’t about the pandemic, if that makes sense. I feel like it was the backdrop of our lives for so long that it needs to be the backdrop of entertainment, too, but in a way that’s less daunting and tragic. EDITED TO ADD: ok, ending was much less fun than the rest of the book.
