Review de “Henry VIII”✨- Peça de Shakespeare escrita em colaboração com John Fletcher. Esta peça não é má. Sei que muitos a consideram a pior de Shakespeare, mas para mim foi ok. Talvez pelo facto de retratar um período histórico do qual gosto muito: a corte de Henrique VIII. Mas sim, penso que esta peça deixa um pouco a desejar. Se no início ela é muito cativante, quando chegamos ao fim (altura em que devíamos estar a querer ler a peça freneticamente) esta torna-se muito aborrecida. Acho que, por um lado, o facto de Shakespeare estar a escrever sobre um período histórico tão próximo dele (relembrando que usou muitas vezes os “panos de fundo” italianos e em períodos históricos mais longínquos), possa ter influenciado a sua escrita. Ou seja, Shakespeare aqui é muito mais “pacato” menos irónico e menos sarcástico. Por outro lado, volto a referir que esta é uma peça feita em colaboração com outra pessoa. E posto isto, não sabemos ao certo qual terá sido a influência ou o trabalho específico que Shakespeare teve nela. He doesn’t really feel happy, but he is content living with his mother and grandmother. Then, a tragic event leaves his grandmother dead and his mother in a coma. Yunjae has to cope with life on his own, pretending to feel emotions he doesn't understand. Sto let je minilo od zadnje objave, ker je dolgo trajalo, da sem prebrala ta špeh. Špeh, ki je upravičil svojo lepo naslovnico. Knjigo sem pravzaprab kupila izključno zaradi naslovnice. Naslednjo v seriji (ki je že izšla pri @zalozbavida ) pa bom tudi zaradi vsebine. Zgodba se začne s smrtjo posvojitelja šestih punc. Premožen poslovnež in skrivnostnež je po smrti svojim hčeram pustil namige o njihovem izvoru. Maja, nastarejša od sester, se najprej ne namerava odpraviti v lov za svojo biološko družino, a beži pred svojo preteklostjo, zato se odpravi v Brazilino. Njen namig namreč vsebuje koordinate vile v Riu. Počasi odkriva svojo preteklost, večinoma preko pisem svoje prababice, ki se je pred poroko z moškim, ki ga ni ljubila, a je zagotavljal ugled njeni družine, odpravila v Evropo. Pa kaj v Evropo, v samo prestolnico ljubezni - v Pariz. Maja je prevajalka iz portugalščine v francoščino in v Riu se sestane z avtorjem knjige, ki jo je pravkar prevedla. Ta ji pomaga pri odkrivanju resnice in prestolnice sambe. Knjiga je popolna "ne na prvo žogo" romanca. Z realističnimi življenjskimi zapleti, zgodovino, umetnostjo in lepim koncem. ✨Book review: Pachinko by Min Jin Lee✨ 🌿“Man, life’s going to keep pushing you around, but you have to keep playing” 🌿This was a tough read. A very honest and hard look at a four-generation family of Korean immigrants during the Japanese occupation and onwards. The hardships and the perseverance are unimaginable, and it seems out of this world that it was even worse. 🌿So many cultural differences that irk me to no end appear when reading Korean/Japanese books, and they all revolve around patriarchy and the exploitation of women. “A woman’s lot is to suffer” is repeated like a self-fulfilling prophecy during this novel and it perfectly describes the situation of women there. So take this as a trigger warning, it contains a lot of women abuse. 🌿I didn’t particularly love the last 25% of the book which centered around the last generation, it was a complete change of style and pacing, and I really did not care about the characters that much. #bookreview 😎 Ποια σειρά βιβλίων που έχετε διαβάσει σας συνεπήρε με την πλοκή της και τις ανατροπές; . . . . . 😎 Μετά το πρώτο απολαυστικό μέρος της σειράς Φίνλεΐ Ντόνοβαν, εννοείται πως ανυπομονούσα να διαβάσω και το δεύτερο, οπότε ευχαριστώ πολύ τις εκδόσεις @minoasbooks που μου έστειλαν το αντίτυπο. Φυσικά και το ρούφηξα σε λίγες μέρες παρόλο που ο ελεύθερός μου χρόνος είναι ελάχιστος. Σίγουρα πρόκειται για μια πολύ καλή συνέχεια της σειράς, αλλά μου άρεσε ένα τσικ λιγότερο σε σχέση με το πρώτο - θα σας πω παρακάτω γιατί. . . . . . ⁉️To read or not to read? ✅Διαβάστε το εννοείται, αν τελειώσατε το πρώτο βιβλίο της σειράς και σας άρεσε! Τελεία! 😂 ✔️«Η Φίνλεΐ Ντόνοβαν ξαναχτυπά» συνεχίζει με τα στοιχεία που αγάπησα και στο προηγούμενο βιβλίο - ανάλαφρο, διασκεδαστικό, χαλαρό, εύπεπτο, εύκολο, απολαυστικοί διάλογοι, κινηματογραφική εξέλιξη και ανατροπές - με αισθητή βελτίωση στη γραφή στο θέμα των επαναλήψεων, κάτι το οποίο με είχε εκνευρίσει στο πρώτο μέρος. Μαθαίνουμε, μάλιστα και κατιτίς παραπάνω για τη Βέρο και για τους χαρακτήρες γενικότερα, οπότε αυτό καλύπτει και ένα κενό που είχα από το «Η Φίνλεΐ Ντόνοβαν σαρώνει». ➖Όμως, η ειδοποιός διαφορά του με το πρώτο βιβλίο για μένα είναι ότι δε βλέπουμε τόσο το κωμικοτραγικό στοιχείο που έβγαινε από μια μητέρα που προσπαθεί να φέρει βόλτα τη φροντίδα των παιδιών της με την υπόλοιπη επεισοδιακή ζωή της. Εδώ η ηρωίδα, αντί να αντιδρά στα αναπάντεχα γεγονότα που συμβαίνουν - όπως στο πρώτο βιβλίο - επιλέγει να μπλέκει σε επικίνδυνες καταστάσεις παίρνοντας αχρείαστα ρίσκα - μάλλον απαραίτητα για τη συνέχιση της ιστορίας. A History of the Roman Empire in 21 Women by Emma Southon Emma Southon is a new author for me but the title of this book intrigued me so much I had to buy it. It’s always so refreshing to have some ancient history told from the female perspective because, let’s face it, most of the history we know is about men and recorded by men. A few years ago I did a Masters in Classics and I really focused on the women in ancient Greece and Rome so this book seemed a good choice for me. The thing I loved most about this book was how Southon tells these women’s stories. I just love her writing style and her humour. Honestly, I could not stop laughing whilst reading this book. Instead of this book feeling like you are reading it, it feels like Southon is having a conversation with you and telling you about these 21 amazing women from history. Her writing style is very conversational which I can see might put some people off but I loved it. It was so nice to read a history book that was fun and upbeat and not stuffy. The other thing I loved was how Southon bridged the gap between the past and modern day. Her use of connecting the past with modern day things was excellent and highly amusing at times. In this book I read about women from Roman history that I knew of (some more than others) and I loved reading about them in such a different light. Somehow I think I will remember these women more now I have read this book because of how Southon portrayed them and linked them to modern day. what’s a recent book you finished? . i’ve been trying to finish my physical tbr before i leave for my study abroad program (i only have 2 left!) so i read the language of flowers—a book that i’ve owned since middle school! I totally procrastinated on diving into Iron Flame because I was worried it wouldn't live up to Fourth Wing. But boy was I wrong. Soooo wrong. I'm trying to read SLOWLY cause I don't want it to end yet. 😭
`✦ ˑ ִֶ 𓂃⊹ ) tt&t - gabrielle zevin started this book because a friend recommended it to me briefly. i went in already knowing the gist of the story, as my friend gave me a summary to persuade me into buying it (it worked). Initially, i found the story's progression to be a bit slow, but it might’ve just been me not wanting to read 400 pages. it felt a bit bland at the beginning, but again, that's more of an inner struggle as i am a bit inpatient and want to finish books as soon as i begin them. however, as the book progresses, i began to understand how important this timing was for the readers to be able to connect to the characters properly. loved the unique portrayal of not only romantic love, but also love within a friendship. sam and sadie’s relationship was very complex and some might find it complicated, but i feel like this complexity is what makes their bond so deep; even deeper than their later romantic bonds. u grow with the characters and watch them succeed, fail and form into themselves starting from college to their almost forties; it’s really just about people living their lives. characterization and character growth are one of my favorite aspects of this book. sam and sadie aren’t always compelling; they have flaws and make mistakes. the writing was descriptive and helped me create vivid pictures in my head. overall, i would give this book a 7.5/10 because it did take me a bit to get through it, but it was a good read, i liked it!

RECENZJA PATRONACKA Uwielbiam książki dotyczące II wojny światowej. I choć dotyczą trudnego okresu w dziejach ludzkości, to czytam je z wielką przyjemnością. "Paryska tancerka" to kolejna powieść, której akcja dzieje się w czasie wojny i kolejna, która zrobiła na mnie ogromne wrażenie. Tym bardziej jestem szczęśliwa, że mogłam objąć ją patronatem. Paryż, rok 1939 Helena jest początkującą aktorką teatralną. Aby zarobić na życie, podejmuje pracę jako tancerka w klubie nocnym. Mieszka w modnej paryskiej dzielnicy, a jej sąsiadami i w zasadzie jedynymi przyjaciółmi, jest żydowska rodzina, Anette, Marek i dwójka ich synów. Kiedy pewnego dnia Marek zostaje zamordowany, a Anette znika, Helena postanawia zająć się ich dziećmi. Jednak kiedy naziści dochodzą do władzy, to zadanie może okazać się bardzo trudne... Muszę przyznać, że pierwszy raz spotykam się z nazwiskiem Autora. To nie powinno dziwić, wszak "Paryska tancerka" to Jego debiut literacki. W dodatku oparty na prawdziwej historii Marcela Ladenhiema, tancerza kabaretowego, który w czasie II wojny światowej pomógł dwóm braciom przetrwać Holokaust w Paryżu. Uwielbiam historie oparte na faktach. To zupełnie inny rodzaj emocji. A tych tu zdecydowanie nie brakuje. Przeżywałam tę powieść całą sobą. To historia, która mnie ogromnie zaciekawiła i poruszyła najczulsze struny mojego serca. Pokazuje, jak wielką moc ma miłość. Jak w jednej chwili nasze życie może się zmienić, a to, co wcześniej było dla nas ważne, wydaje się błahe w porównaniu z takimi sprawami, jak walka o przetrwanie i troska o drugiego człowieka. A zwłaszcza w obliczu wojny. This lovely book that I’ve been waiting for a good while now was ready at the library for me just in time for another #shortstorysunday and it did not disappoint.✨ Given my multiple disappointments with this project, I’ve put it semi aside, but should there be one I am very excited about that feels right for a Sunday, I’ll come back to the project as needed.📖 The main thing is to enjoy what you read.🌿 I had already read the first short story from this one, but the other two were new and wonderful. Irma Grese – Strażniczka SS z Auschwitz” Daniel Patrick Brown. [Współpraca reklamowa @wydawnictworeplika ] Książki z literatury faktu to jeden z moich ulubionych gatunków, szczególnie te dotyczące wydarzeń i osób związanych z drugą wojną światową. Dlatego też bez zastanowienia zdecydowałam się sięgnąć po reportaż Daniela Patricka Browna „Piękna Bestia”, w którym autor przybliża czytelnikom postać Irmy Grese, strażniczki SS z Auschwitz. Irma Grese – urocza i okrutna – zdaniem więźniarek: „piękna bestia”. „Piękna bestia” to opowieść o kobiecie, którą ideologia narodowego socjalizmu skutecznie przemieniła z naiwnej wiejskiej dziewczyny w bezwzględnego potwora. Uznawana była za jedną z najbardziej okrutnych I krwawych kobiet w historii świata. W 1943 roku Irma Grese została skierowana do Auschwitz-Birkenau, gdzie awansowała do funkcji zastępczyni głównej nadzorczyni obozu kobiecego w Brzezince. Była ona nadzorczynią bloków żeńskich w kilku obozach koncentracyjnych i perwersyjną sadystką. Jest odpowiedzialna za śmierć setek kobiet. Po wojnie została osądzona i skazana na karę śmierci w wieku zaledwie 22 lat. Grese nie okazała skruchy. Wyrok został wykonany 13 grudnia 1945 roku o godz. 9:34 w więzieniu w Hameln. Irmę Grese uznaje się za jedną z najokrutniejszych funkcjonariuszek SS. Ze względu na niezwykłą urodę kontrastującą z brutalnością więźniarki Auschwitz-Birkenau nadały jej przydomek „piękna bestia”. This story spans 8 years, and each year gets harder and harder. I could feel the stress and heaviness that hung over the Foster family. The responsibility that Austin has after losing her mother at the age of 12 and having to take care of her 6 siblings, along with her dad who is in a depressive state most of the time, and trying to keep their tobacco farm running is heartbreaking. She learns to keep the truth of what they're going through hidden from everyone. It's the kindness of the "riffraff" people in the community that slowly break Austin's walls. Including Vance Cumberland, who is always there for her even when she pushes him away. I loved all the different side characters-each one flawed with a past/secret of their own, and the way they all come together to help Austin and her family once their secret comes to light.❤️ I was so glad this book had a heartwarming ending This was my first book by T. I. “The Comedy of Errors” e “Henry V” 🌸 A primeira peça é uma comédia que, acredito, deverá funcionar muito melhor em palco do que ao ser simplesmente lida. Conta a história de dois pares de gémeos idênticos (uma ideia que só faz mesmo sentido se tivermos em conta que foi Shakespeare que escreveu) que, ao serem separados à nascença, desconhecem a existência uns dos outros. É, como o título diz, um comédia de erros, onde se espera que espectador, assim como as personagens da peça, sejam completamente confundidas e baralhadas no decorrer da ação. Nesta peça ainda não encontramos a escrita de Shakespeare completamente desenvolvida e madura. “Henry V” é , de certa forma, uma continuação e conclusão dos eventos que são relatados nas peças “Henrique IV” parte I e parte II. Acho que talvez esta seja das peças mais aborrecidas de Shakespeare (na minha opinião, claro). Não é boa, nem é má. Não ficamos nem a adorar, nem a odiar o monarca retratado. Assim como também não considerei que existissem personagens secundárias marcantes. No fundo não é um peça que tenha muita vontade de reler. BTW, aconselho a verem o filme “The King” com o Timothée Chalamet. There is no one more perfect then Evangeline and Jacks😭. I knew it would involve high stake curses and love confessions but the way it had everything was just so amazing 😭 The beautiful fairytale that it is, this book managed to dive deeper into Apollo, Evangeline and Jack's character. I hate Apollo obv but this book did justice to build up his character only to give us all the justice we would have wanted. The confession towards the end ughh!!! I have never felt more happy while reading a confession than I was this time. 💓. I'm so happy this series exists. To anyone who wants a magical fairytale with amazing characters, curses, vampires, politics this is one amazing series for you. Powieści z gatunku true crime charakteryzuje się tym, że autor bada przestępstwo i szczegółowo opisuje działania osób powiązanych ze zdarzeniami przestępczymi – lubicie, czy wręcz odwrotnie? Ja bardzo lubię ten gatunek, ale niewątpliwie cenię sobie rzetelne przygotowanie autora do nakreślenia takiej historii. Współpraca z @wydawnictwo_wab „Rakowiska” to powieść inspirowana prawdziwymi wydarzeniami. To historia z której emanuje niedowierzanie i przerażenie. W końcu to książka, która porusza i, która wzrusza. Rakowiska - wioska pod białą Podlaską, gdzie dwoje nastolatków dokonało morderstwa rodziców jednego z nich. Chłopak z tak zwanego „dobrego domu” i dziewczyna łamiąca wszelkie istniejące zakazy, idąca „pod prąd” i nieustannie zbuntowana. To sprawa sprzed 10 lat, którą wówczas żyła cała Polska. Do dzisiaj pamiętam zdjęcia publikowane w mediach, osądy sąsiadów, wypowiedzi najbliższych. Pamiętam emocje, myśli kłębiące się w głowie i poczucie, że gdzieś tam zabrakło zainteresowania ze strony dorosłych, zabrakło rozmowy czy zrozumienia. Autorka nakreśliła historię oscylującą wokół pytania – dlaczego do tego morderstwa doszło? Co takiego działo się w głowach młodych ludzi, że dopuścili się tak okropnej zbrodni? Prowokuje czytelnika do snucia swoich własnych wizji dotyczących fabuły i skłania do refleksji. To książka, która uświadamia odbiorcy problemy młodych ludzi, która zwraca uwagę rodziców na kwestie występujące w ówczesnym świecie ich dzieci i w końcu, taka, która odziera z szat dylematy ówczesnej rzeczywistości. I choć wiedziałam, że emocje które spotęgują się podczas lektury tej książki nie ustąpią zbyt szybko, że kolejny raz będę potrzebowała czasu, żeby po tym, co przeczytam przejść do codzienności… I nie myliłam się… Przeczytajcie. To nie jest zwykła historia! Dzień dobry, dzień dobry.🩷 Jak Wam mija weekend? Polska przywitała nas przepiękną pogodą i mam nadzieję, że taka pozostanie do końca naszego urlopu. Choć to tylko kilka dniz to mamy w planach wykorzystać je jak najlepiej.🥰 📖 „Jak sprzedać nawiedzony dom” Grady Hendrix. [Współpraca reklamowa @zysk_wydawnictwo ] „Jak sprzedać nawiedzony dom” Grady'go Hendrixa to książka, na którą zwróciłam uwagę głównie dlatego, że laleczka z okładki bardzo przypomina postać z filmu „Laleczka Chucky”, który, nawiasem mówiąc, swego czasu był jednym z lepszych slasherów. „Porywająca i równocześnie przerażająca opowieść o nawiedzonym domu i rodzinnej traumie”. W momencie kiedy Louise dowiaduje się, że jej rodzice zmarli obawia się powrotu do rodzinnego domu. Nie chce mieć nic wspólnego z miejscem po brzegi wypchanym pozostałościami po karierze ojca i obsesji matki na punkcie lalek. Najbardziej jednak obawia się kontaktu z bratem, który nigdy nie opuścił rodzinnego miasta i ma za złe Louise jej życiowy sukces. Niestety, nie będzie mogła tego uniknąć, ponieważ wystawienie na sprzedaż domu rodzinnego będzie wymagało wiele poświęcenia zarówno ze strony Louise, jak i Marka. Uwielbiam wszelkie historie o nawiedzonych domach, dlatego z ogromną ciekawością sięgnęłam po książkę Grady'go Hendrixa. Niestety, czuje się trochę zawiedziona. O ile fabuła i miejsce akcji bardzo mi się podobały, tak niestety zabrakło mi charakterystycznego napięcia i elementów grozy. Z ciekawością, jednak bez większych emocji, śledziłam kolejne wydarzenia. Stopniowe odkrywanie przed nami historii rodziny oraz od lat skrywanych tajemnic było dość intrygujące, jednak brakowało mi przy tym momentów, które powodowałyby szybsze bicie serca czy też strach. `✦ ˑ ִֶ 𓂃⊹ ) no longer human - osamu dazai i read up on people’s thoughts on the book after finishing it and saw that some people found it difficult to sympathize with yozo due to his selfishness, self-loathing and overall disgust with human beings claiming that he cause his own problems and i completely disagree. yozo is not a character meant to like or “sympathize” with; his story is meant to be tragic and deeply flawed. yozo’s trauma accumulates as he lives and each misfortune deepens his alienation and shapes the way in which he interacts with the world. however, i found it very hard to get through parts of the book where he interacts with women or shares his thoughts of them, as he has a very distorted image of them that can come off as outright misogynistic at times. overall, yozo as a character explores the human condition in its most broken form. lastly, reading about dazai after finishing the book and realizing that this book is basically autobiographical, as his life mirrors yozo’s was the most surprising part of my experience with this book; truly a tragic life and a true portrayal of reality as a person with ongoing traumatic experiences and suffering causing mental illness, alcoholism and drug addiction. i would rate it a 7/10!
