Missing- Melisa Sloan: By 1994, 23 year old Melisa Sloan was a nurse and she was married. She worked long hours at a hospital and she adored her job and patients… but what many didn’t know was that her home life seemed anything but happy. Reports state, Melisa and her husband John had been married for about a year, and had recently moved from Kentucky so John go could train to be a motorcycle mechanic. Reports also state that local police were called more than once for domestic vi*lence. John was arrested the second time police were called, and Melisa left him and went back home to Kentucky. Melisa eventually reconciled with him though, and moved back in with him. Weeks went by however, and after another fight, Melisa told a coworker she was planning to leave John. On May 1, 1994, Melisa rented a car from the local airport so she could go to Houston, TX, although it was unclear who she was to visit. However, she never arrived to Houston, and she never returned back home. after Melisa was reported missing, John told police Melisa packed her things and left him for another man. When they searched the home, almost all of Melissa’s things were gone except her bathrobe and cat. Mellisa’s family didn’t believe him, and thought she had something to do with her disappearance because she was set to testify against him the week after she disappeared. Weeks later, the rental car was found several miles away stripped and burned, and shortly after that, John remarried and moved back to Florida. After he moved, he stopped cooperating with police. Parents Lie . I remember being 5 yrs old and living in a haunted house that was next to one of the most haunted forest in the world. . It was also my earliest memory of a paranormal experience I ever had. I had other experiences before that, but I am not sure if those were my memory or a story that was told to me repeatedly. . Interesante debate jurídico suscitado a colación del asesinato del niño Gabriel, hecho ocurrido hace varios años, y la reciente comunicación pública de sus padres en la que manifiestan su deseo de que nadie realice una serie de TV (true crime) sobre su caso, como ha sucedido con el caso Asunta. A priori, hay dos derechos fundamentales que colisionan: por un lado, el derecho al honor, a la intimidad personal y familiar y a la propia imagen (art. 18.1 de la Constitución Española); y, por otro, el derecho a la libertad artística (art. 20.1.b de la CE). Es cierto que la libertad artística, que en este caso sería la hipotética producción de una serie de televisión sobre el asesinato de Gabriel, se topa con un límite en su ejercicio, en este caso el respeto a la intimidad invocada por sus padres. Pero es jurisprudencia pacífica que, cuando los hechos son noticiables (es decir, son de interés público), y lamentablemente estos lo fueron, en una sociedad democrática prevalecen las libertades del artículo 20 de la CE, en este caso la libertad artística, sobre los derechos personalísimos del artículo 18.1 de la CE. De lo contrario, la única garantía para que los derechos al honor, a la intimidad y a la propia imagen no se vean afectados sería el silencio; y ello es inconcebible en una sociedad democrática. Es cierto que el art. 20 de la CE añade en su apartado cuarto otro límite que a priori podría estar relacionado con este caso: las libertades del artículo 20 de la CE deben quedar limitadas "especialmente" en aras de la protección de jóvenes y niños. Pero, en este caso, este límite no resultaría de aplicación; porque lamentablemente el niño Gabriel fue asesinado. Eso no significa ni mucho menos que su memoria no merezca protección jurídica, sólo que impidiendo la producción de una serie de TV sobre su caso en nada protegería a la juventud e infancia en la medida que la personalidad civil de Gabriel se extinguió con su muerte (art. 32 del Código Civil). The Real-Life Murder Club by Nicola Stow📚 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ A short and sweet book with each chapter being a new true crime story. The writing was well done and had inputs from relatives of victims and others involved. The downfall for this book was the telling of the more well-known cases referring too much to already released documentaries and books deeming it unoriginal. Denn eingetragen werden dort bei einem Ersttäter nur Verurteilungen zu mehr als 90 Tagessätzen. 🕵️♂️ Let's dive a bit deeper into the Reid Technique! After our last chat, many of you had questions about this controversial interrogation method. Developed in the 1950s by John E. Reid, a former Chicago cop and polygraph expert, this technique has been a staple in U.S. law enforcement. It's known for its intense pressure tactics followed by a sudden switch to sympathy, aiming to coax a confession out of the suspect. 🎭 While some argue it's effective for drawing out truths from tight-lipped suspects, there is a major problem--its tendency to produce false confessions, particularly among the vulnerable like juveniles or those with mental impairments. 🚨 John E. Reid helped gain a confession from a suspect, Darrel Parker, for Parker's wife's murder. This case established Reid's reputation and popularized his technique. However, Parker recanted his confession the next day, but it was admitted to evidence at his trial. Parker was convicted by a jury and sentenced to life in prison. He was later determined to be innocent, after another man confessed and was found to have been the perpetrator. Despite the major error, the case popularized Reid's tactics. Instead of a cautionary tale, the method continued to be used. Reid co-authored a text explaining his interrogation techniques called "Criminal Interrogation and Confessions." While Reid passed away in 1982, his company, John E. Reid and Associates lives on as does his technique. According to The New Yorker, the company "trains more interrogators than any other company in the world." Despite its controversies, the technique remains widely taught and used. W ostatnim czasie bardzo rzadko sięgam po ten gatunek i żałuję bo zdecydowanie należy do grona moich ulubionych gatunków. Kilka dni temu skoczyłam czytać „Krew w piach” czyli książkę Katarzyny Bondy. I powiem wam że jestem bardzo pozytywnie zaskoczona. Nie spodziewałam się że osoba na codzień pisząca kryminały potrafi tak płynnie przeskoczyć z gatunka na gatunek. Historii samej w sobie nie mogę i nie chcę oceniać gdyż jak sama nazwa gatunku wskuzje historia opisana w książce działa się naprawdę, myślę że nie wypada tego robić. Natomiast chciałbym powiedzieć o formie książki samej w sobie. Zdecydowanie przypadło mi do gustu pióro Pani Bondy, i mimo że nie było to moje pierwsze spotkanie z jej książkami to myślę że chciałabym częściej sięgać po książki jej autorstwa. Jak wiecie kryminały bardzo lubię więc tym bardziej możliwość mam wiele. Co do samej książki, historie true crime bardzo ale to bardzo mnie interesują, jednak ta sprawa była dla mnie obca. Była zdecydowanie wstrząsająca i przykra. Ale tego co rzeczywiście się tam działo musicie dowiedzieć się sami.
