Now before y’all @ me on Beyoncé’s internet 👀 let’s address the elephant in the room. While as a person of flesh and bone, I fully understand emotional affairs and the damage they have on relationships and families however 😒 in real life, this happens. People stay in relationships that should’ve ended for a plethora of reasons but not every situation is black and white nor is everyone emotionally/mentally/financially well enough to navigate life flawlessly. Now lol onto the book. I love the topics this story hits on. Blind loyalty. Broken/Found/Blended families. Personal insecurities - these are all things that can make relationships difficult but they’re real life situations. I can see the beauty in two people who can heal and find love while navigating the mess and traumas of life. I loved these characters (even Tasha 🙄) and their stories. The unfortunate reality is that sometimes we hurt others (intentionally or unintentionally) on our road to self discovery. Both the MMC & FMC copped to this before the conclusion of the story 🫶🏾 Synopsis: For Maleek Jones, hockey is his wife. Everything and everyone else is his mistress, an aside. When unexpected responsibilities land in his lap, the balance of his world is disrupted, changing the way he sees everything. ✨ Mini Review ✨ 📖: “Holding” by Alexandria House 📚: St Louis Sires Book 2 Genre: Romance/Black Romance/Sports Romance TW: Open Door Romance/Mental Health/Attempted Su*cide/Implied Racism Rating: R This is my first Alexandria House book and I didn’t realize that I read them out of order 🤦🏾‍♀️ If you’re a fan of ‘friends to lovers’, ‘enemies to lovers’ ‘brothers best friend’, ‘second chances’ (…and 3rd, 4th, & 5th chances in the case of this book 😆) then you’ll enjoy it - it has it all. Be warned….there is also ‘miscommunication’ which I’m usually dead against BUT in this story it was almost necessary to support the bigger picture so this may be the only time y’all see me openly support this trope 💯 it really brought the whole story full circle. This is the quintessential “I met the love of my life before I knew what love was” story and these may be my favorite story lines. To have the birds-eye view into a budding romance always gives me the all the feels. There’s enough tragedy to give the characters depth but not enough to overshadow the love story. Sweetness aside, y’all know I like it spicy 😌 this one has it all. Synopsis: Childhood neighbors, enemies, best friends, lovers, enemies, Sires lineman Terrence Ford and his ex-wife, Krystle, have meant all these things to each other. Once believing their union was indestructible, they find themselves unhappily apart. Maybe what they see as an ending is really the beginning of a stronger bond and a deeper understanding of what love really is. DeMarco! That’s what you get! My pulse THUMPED nearly the entire read. Demarco had me in a chokehold 😆 Toxic levels are off the charts and (as per usual 😏) I’m here for it! 😂 Nova lived a childhood that no one should ever live - unloved, not cared for and abused by those closest to her. Unfortunately the ghost of her childhood continue to haunt and abuse her as an adult. DeMarco…equally neglected in his childhood responded differently. He’s apathetic at all times but there’s just something about Nova. When the opportunity presents itself to have her, he jumps at the opportunity manipulating his position of power to get what he wants. But there’s more to DeMarco than he displays in his daily life. He wants to be the man that Nova wants and needs and he’ll do anything and everything to prove it to her. The characters are mainly likable (Q and Bethany can both kick rocks with no shoes on 😒), the story is sweet…and the spice was spicing ❤️‍🔥😌. I remember reading this book almost 4 years ago, right around the time covid was raging around the world and we all had to stay inside. This was one of the first romance books I’ve read and the rest was history. The obsession begun. I must say Damon and Maddox were a nice plays to start. I still recommend this book for beginners and pros of romance alike. Eden Finley’s writing flows really well and her characters are always well developed with good backstories and lovable characteristics. *** A short summery: Maddox needs a date to the wedding of his ex girlfriend. The problem is he told her he was gay in order to break up with her, but he isn’t actually gay. Now he needs to find a guy who will pretend to be his boyfriend for a weekend back to his hometown. Insert Damon, Maddox’s best friend’s brother, who doesn’t want to be here at all, but as he soon to be sports agent he can’t pass up the opportunity Maddox presents him with. Namely the number of a big NHL superstar. Of course a fake relationship never really stays fake and soon Maddox is making sure Damon eats proper meals during his busy exam period. He’s obsessive. Together they’re explosive 😮‍💨 All it needed was a “…now be a good girl and…” and I would’ve come unglued 🫠😏😌 This is only my second novella so it may be the norm, but the ending was too abrupt for me. All in all it was a good read and I will read more from Shantel Davis for sure! The characters are equally lovable and maddening all at the same time. I tend to start to lose interest when I’ve convinced myself that I have it all figured out but with this one there’s just enough nuggets along the way that allow you to feel confident but not entirely sure. It kept my interest through the final punctuation. Synopsis: Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. For me, that’s what makes me love a book. I want to clutch the pearls at least twice during a read and @marykubica delivered. There’s enough moving parts to keep you guessing along the way. I really enjoyed this one! Synopsis: Sadie and Will Foust have only just moved their family from bustling Chicago to small-town Maine when their neighbour, Morgan Baines, is found dead in her home. The murder rocks their tiny coastal island, but no one is more shaken than Sadie, who is terrified by the thought of a killer in her very own backyard. But it’s not just Morgan’s death that has Sadie on edge. It’s their eerie old home, with its decrepit decor and creepy attic, which they inherited from Will’s sister after she died unexpectedly.
